Re: Round 3:- Changes against Essendon?

Totally agree they will probably bring in Neagle as well.
Neagle,Lloyd, Lucas and Ryder vs Bower Thornton Waite and ??????

Also when Hille goes to play into the forward line and we only have Waite Thornton and Bower, we are stuffed. Also Heath Scotland- unless he's very sick, don't believe he'd get dropped. He's one of the most experienced players and we need experience amongst the kids.

But if we bring in Stevens that isn't an issue.

Record Crowd As Scotland Lose to Italy

Wednesday, 08 April 2009

Tennent's Women's International Challenge Match
Scotland 1, Italy 4
Wednesday 8 April 2009
Rugby Park, Kilmarnock

Scotland were beaten 4-1 by Italy tonight, in front of a record Women’s International crowd.

Over 1800 spectators turned out at Rugby Park to see Scotland dominate the early exchanges, with Arsenal’s Suzanne Grant drawing a good save from A Maria Picarelli in the 5th minute.

Grant called Picarelli into action again a few minutes later, and had another run into the box halted by a well-timed tackle in the 15th minute.

Joanne Love, Pauline Hamill and Megan Sneddon combined well as Scotland pushed forward looking for the opener. At the back, former U19 captain Rachel Corsie started her first home match with confidence, while 17-year-old Celtic defender Jennifer Beattie put in a player of the match performance at left back.

But it was Italy who took the lead against the run of play. With the Scotland defence stretched, Tatiana Zorri pounced on a loose ball in the box to tap home from close range in the 19th minute.

The goal seemed to rattle the confidence of the Scottish players, as Italy began to take control of the game.

Italy added a second two minutes into the second half when Tona headed past captain Gemma Fay in the Scottish goal. The Italians were dominating the middle of the park and continued to test the Scottish defence.

Manieri made it 3-0 in the 72nd minute when her long range shot squeezed past Fay’s fingertips into the bottom corner, with Vicchiarello chipping in the fourth two minutes later.

Scotland pulled back a late goal, when Hamill converted a penalty after strike-partner Grant was floored.

Spartans forward Diana Barry won her first cap after replacing Grant, and almost made a dream start when her powerful looping shot was punched clear by Picarelli in injury time.

Scotland Head Coach Anna Signeul said: “This was a very disappointing performance, especially after we started off so well. Our heads seemed to go down after the first goal, and we allowed Italy to score a couple of very soft goals.

“I think we missed some of our big players tonight. Although young players like Rachel Corsie and Jennifer Beattie played very well at times, our inexperience showed and we looked vulnerable. But, the talent is there and we showed how well we can play in the early part of the game. As our younger players grow in confidence I know that we will be capable of getting the results we need.”

Attendance: 1,811

You'd have to say they missed a couple of their big names and pretty much lost their nerve the longer the game progressed. But the girlies will be back. :thumbsu:

It was a great win for us....

Irish, Stevens, Grigg it will be out of to come into the side. From those three I would say Irish is a certainty.

Re: Round 3:- Changes against Essendon?

Ye but also Scotland's had one bad game. That doesn't warrant getting omitted after all the back to back performances he's put in for us.

In the case of the squad at the moment, it can only take one bad game to be in some trouble with regards to selection. He had an interrupted pre-season, was somewhat rushed back against the Tigers and really looked lost against the Lions. He is expendable because Stevens plays a very similar postiion which means our structure doesn't suffer. Right now i'm not sure why we'd want to carry someone that seems to be under done. No harm in giving him a week or two in the 2's for some confidence and match fitness.

Re: Round 3:- Changes against Essendon?

Carlos will be brought in you would think. Stevens and Grigg might come in but there is no clear cut player to drop for them.

Jamo-->Carlos
????--> Stevens

Grigg may be very unlucky methinks!

Re: Round 3:- Changes against Essendon?

I think you will find in a few hours it will be:

In:
Stevens
Grigg

Out:
Jamieson
Scotland

Thats it

Im guessing everyone has seen Ratts press conference yesterday where he clearly stated that stevens is a certainity.

Thanks for the heads up Mr Ralph in the paper btw, just useless regurgitation of what Ratts said...

Due to what happened in the pre season irish's inclusion is more so newsworthy than Harts or Banno, who Ratts gave equal if not more time too in the interview.

I would not be surprised at all to see either Banno or Harts come in at the expense of O'hailpin.

Essendon are a super quick team and i definately dont think that Ratts will want to play too tall against them.

Banno played CHB last week in the two's.....maybe reading something into this???

Garlett needs to go before Scotland. IMO Scotland is much more valuable to us than Garlett.

Re: Round 3:- Changes against Essendon?

A few tough decisions to be made in a few hours. I would have thought the leaders to come in would be Stevens and Irish. Jammo is out wonder who the unlucky one would be to come out, maybe Garlett?

I have to disagree, Scotland looked very underdone last week. Garlett made mistakes but he's done enough to keep his position imo.

Short term, Scotland can play in the bullants until he's ready. Long term we know he'll come back

It's interesting that the only time Scotland had less than 20 disposals a game last year was rd 1 and 3. I think this year, we're showing that we will not take risks on underdone players *edit he did it 4 times, 1 more vs Essendon and against North

It's so good we can finally make these decisions.

Just from watching the interview yesterday, Ratts pointed out speed on numerous occasions...this made me think that he wouldn't necessarily bring in a tall for a tall...But who knows.. we will find out in a couple of hours :)

Re: Round 3:- Changes against Essendon?

Not for me at all at this stage. I've said numerous time defensive pressure is paramount these days and in the past few season, we've relied on Betts far too often. You just have to watch all games this season, including the NAB Cup to realise Garlett is very important to our structure and to our team. I think too many people here under appreciate what he does for our team. He release pressure off Betts and even Fev and while he may not tackle someone, he locks the ball inside our 50 and gives us more opportunities to score.

Scotland, while a very good player can be replaced at this stage. Stevens can do just as good a job, if not better than Heath, especially right now. If you watch his game on the weekend, he wasn't managing the speed of the game well, he struggled. You can only have so may midfielders and forward thinking players in one team. By that i mean you can't have too many attacking players, there has to be a balance.

Re: Round 3:- Changes against Essendon?

This is the team I'd like to see this weekend:

Browne O'h'Ailpin Johnson
Grigg Bower Thornton
Waite Hadley Simpson
Murphy Kreuzer Houlihan
Yarran Fevola Betts
Jacobs Gibbs Judd

Stevens Robinson Armfield Joseph

It won't happen, but a harder rotation cycle here would do several things

1. I don't think we lose too much here as in ability.
2. We still have most match-ups covered
3. We give a couple of boys a rest and inject a little fear factor into the rested.
4. We give Browne, Armfield and Yarran some respect and thr opportunity to fight for the postions they may have otherwise already had and also show that there are still opportunities for well performed palyers to enter the team
5. We would have some great speed against the Dons here, which I think is their major weapon against us right now. (Ruck could be another one, though)
6. The addition of O'hAilpin would also give him the boost he may not have expected 5 weeks ago. He may never again become a regular but to have him at the ready: We could do a lot worse than to have his strength in reserve
7) It services my prejudices against Wiggins and Russell, but I think they have the resolution to understand and come back even better and hungrier

Edited for accuracy

Scotto had the flu.....

Re: Round 3:- Changes against Essendon?

Scotto had the flu.....
Sorry Harkin my post was a bit harsh on you. We have the luxury of a great 22 at the moment and another half a dozen easy ins if needed and we ought to be able to pick the teams we like. You go for it brother. :thumbsu: (I dont agree but go for it!)

Re: Round 3:- Changes against Essendon?

30YB WTF?

You know better.

I am no more prejudiced towards aforementioned duo then what you must be towards the inclusion of someone I may have put in.
If the truth be told............................... Never mind.

Well I did retract before you posted this, but seeing you have I will respond.

I just get annoyed when the same name keeps appearing week in week out, rest JR, drop JR. Why never rest Gibbs or rest Murph? If the MC keep picking him and he keeps doing his job (what more can he do by the way) why does his name keep appearing in posts each week? We all seem to now acknowledge he has been doing his job, Travis Johnson had no influence on the game at all (even in the third when they smashed us) but the week before was one of their drivers, and JR did that job on him, again. Yet another week on and his name comes up again at the eleventh hour, not in the MC I am tipping just on here. And in about an hour his name will again be called out.

It gets tiresome.

But anyway, you go for your life mate. If you want to put your thoughts out there, go for it. I disagree, and I am sure the MC will too, and another week will go by until we can start the dance again. If not with you with someone else. I am 5-0 so far this year. 5 games people said he would/should be dropped, 5 times he was selected.

Re: Round 3:- Changes against Essendon?

Well Essendon reckon they are going to unleash their pacey midfield on us.

They'll need plenty of pace if they're going to chase our blokes asses all day.

I'll take skill/hardness/decision-making ability/premiership experience/brownlow ownership vs pace any day.
