Re: Round 3:- Changes against Essendon?

I can see the merits of Stevens coming in, and I agree JR has done some good jobs in the last 2 rounds. So what do you we do? Keep Grigg out indefinitely? When the kid has done everything, but it is a good situation to be in debating on our depth rather than our lack of it. I don't think Garlett will come out as he has been ok, could have had 3 goals last week if he hadn't been so unselfish.

Ok, seeing as you seem to be attempting reason try this hypothetical. We go undefeated to say round 12, most of them convincingly, all play their part each week to greater and lesser degrees, but we keep winning and Grigg cant break in for all that time. Are you still calling for someone to come out and Grigg to take a place in the 22? If so on what grounds.

Re: Round 3:- Changes against Essendon?

Well if we do keep winning till round 12 or whatever then it is going to be very hard for anyone to break into the side. I have been at the games the last two weeks and yes I agree JR has done very well and I am starting to like some of the work he does of the ball etc. I do realize that it is impossible to drop players if they are performing, but how will Grigg feel? I mean if this kid is doing everything and is blitzing it in the reserves, wont he get shattered? Wont he just give up in the end. I don't know I guess I am glad I'n not on the MC.

These are the tough calls that MC's need to make. The message it sends players like Grigg, good enough to be in the 22 but locked out by good form of those in the 22 is that once they break in, provided he continues to perform he will then hold his spot. Its a far better message to be sending than dropping guys that are performing IN the 22 because even the player that gets promoted might wonder how long they are safe. Players that feel even the slightest mistake might cost them their spot play "safe" footy. Safe footy does not win matches, not often and not by big margins. Players that take the game on, confident that even if that play does not come off they wont be singled out because of it, go on to continually take the game on and we end up being a far stronger outfit as a result.

Back of the queue. ;)

Re: Round 3:- Changes against Essendon?

Interesting selections if true.
It suggests to me that Waite will have to be more accountable this week if Essendon play 3 talls forward. I don't mind that because he has done the job on Lucas before, Thornton on Lloyd and Bower take option 3. It will work.

Joseph Thornton Bower
Grigg Waite Johnson
Stevens Hadley Simpson
Gibbs Wiggins Houlihan
Cloke Fevola Betts
Kruezer Judd Murphy
Jacobs Russell Robinson Gartlett

What exactly did Scotland do wrong on the weekend?

Exactly frankly I can't see them dropping Scotland.

Record Crowd As Scotland Lose to Italy

Tennent's Women's International Challenge Match
Scotland 1, Italy 4
Wednesday 8 April 2009
Rugby Park, Kilmarnock

Scotland were beaten 4-1 by Italy tonight, in front of a record Women’s International crowd.

Over 1800 spectators turned out at Rugby Park to see Scotland dominate the early exchanges, with Arsenal’s Suzanne Grant drawing a good save from A Maria Picarelli in the 5th minute.

Grant called Picarelli into action again a few minutes later, and had another run into the box halted by a well-timed tackle in the 15th minute.

Joanne Love, Pauline Hamill and Megan Sneddon combined well as Scotland pushed forward looking for the opener. At the back, former U19 captain Rachel Corsie started her first home match with confidence, while 17-year-old Celtic defender Jennifer Beattie put in a player of the match performance at left back.

But it was Italy who took the lead against the run of play. With the Scotland defence stretched, Tatiana Zorri pounced on a loose ball in the box to tap home from close range in the 19th minute.

The goal seemed to rattle the confidence of the Scottish players, as Italy began to take control of the game.

Italy added a second two minutes into the second half when Tona headed past captain Gemma Fay in the Scottish goal. The Italians were dominating the middle of the park and continued to test the Scottish defence.

Manieri made it 3-0 in the 72nd minute when her long range shot squeezed past Fay’s fingertips into the bottom corner, with Vicchiarello chipping in the fourth two minutes later.

Scotland pulled back a late goal, when Hamill converted a penalty after strike-partner Grant was floored.

Spartans forward Diana Barry won her first cap after replacing Grant, and almost made a dream start when her powerful looping shot was punched clear by Picarelli in injury time.

Scotland Head Coach Anna Signeul said: “This was a very disappointing performance, especially after we started off so well. Our heads seemed to go down after the first goal, and we allowed Italy to score a couple of very soft goals.

“I think we missed some of our big players tonight. Although young players like Rachel Corsie and Jennifer Beattie played very well at times, our inexperience showed and we looked vulnerable. But, the talent is there and we showed how well we can play in the early part of the game. As our younger players grow in confidence I know that we will be capable of getting the results we need.”

Attendance: 1,811

You'd have to say they missed a couple of their big names and pretty much lost their nerve the longer the game progressed. But the girlies will be back. :thumbsu:

Re: Round 3:- Changes against Essendon?

They're not going to be the ins and out, just look how we struggled to contain the big forwards last week after Voss put Mitch Clark forward and Bower was forced to play on Bradshaw. Not selecting a defender would allow Knights to play Ryder, Lucas and Lloyd up forward and leave us really short at the back, I'm pretty sure sentanta is going to get a recall.

Well after that Scotland deserves to be dropped. :thumbsu:

Yeah but it is a small ground down there. :D

Totally agree they will probably bring in Neagle as well.
Neagle,Lloyd, Lucas and Ryder vs Bower Thornton Waite and ??????

Also when Hille goes to play into the forward line and we only have Waite Thornton and Bower, we are stuffed. Also Heath Scotland- unless he's very sick, don't believe he'd get dropped. He's one of the most experienced players and we need experience amongst the kids.
