Re: Round 3:- Changes against Essendon?

We need Grigg in the side, he has done everything asked of him on the track, and in the reserves.

Girgg in and Stevens will have to wait quite simple.

Re: Round 3:- Changes against Essendon?

I do rate him, just not in the class as Judd, Gibbs and Murphy. I would rather have a young kid like Grigg in the side who has done everything right, Stevens can't just expect to walk straight into the team. In fact no one should do that unless your Judd.

Re: Round 3:- Changes against Essendon?

Alright had a chance to watch the replay twice today and we did drop of the boil a fair bit in the second half. Jamison was/is a big loss, we really struggled to contain Bradshaw and Waite's influence was not as great as it was early in the game. These are the changes i'd be looking at for the game against the Bombers:

OUT: Jamison
IN: O'hAlpin

Pretty straight forward if you ask me. Will be able to release Waite a little more and hopefully will mean having in less 1-on-1 situation and more 3rd man up situations. We need his attacking flare, really has been influential this year. I'd probably give Setanta the nod and i think the coach staff will too. Was earmarked for important roles early in the year before that incident with Cloke, i think they'll give him a shot.

OUT: Scotland
IN: Stevens

This could shock you but i think it could be a real possibility. Stevens apparently will come straight back in and for it needs to be a like-for-like. Seemed Heath was playing across half back a fair bit last week and looked really lost. He really struggled with the tempo of the game and i'm thinking a game or 2 in the two's will give him a bit more confidence. He had a very interrupted pre-season and was somewhat rushed back against the Tigers, get his fitness base up and he'll be back into the side very soon. Important part of the puzzle for us but just seems a little underdone for mine.

OUT Johnson
IN: Grigg

Johnson has been pretty good in the first two games, really does use the ball well but still lacks defensively. Grigg is fairly effective both ways and i think there in no doubt Shaun gives us a boost. Again, similar type positions though Johnson probably plays a little more deep, we just need to keep the balance right and i think this change adds a better player with changing that.

Change 1 - yes - Our skills might have past O'hAplin but we need his height.

Change 2 - ballsy but I tend to agree :thumbsu:. I have always thought you can’t have Scotland and Carazzo in the same side. So with Stevens being groomed as a running half back I don’t believe we can have Scotland and Stevens in the same too. Also Scotland didn’t have a good game last week - went missing for awhile.

Change 3 - Don’t agree. I like Johnson at the moment great LEFT foot kick something we don’t have in out backline - He's difference pressure we get better.

Change 3 option B
OUT Joseph – needs to find more of the footy in the 2’s
IN Grigg - has to come in, he's a good footballer that should be playing seniors. Joseph has been asked to play tagging and defensive roles - Grigg can do these!!

Change 4
OUT - Wiggins - I know something people will shoot me down here but I still believe he isn’t up to it. Was at the game on Saturday and what bothered me a lot about Wiggins is that he missed a lot of tackles and his natural instincts & skill levels still aren't great!
IN - Fisher - Some boat as Wiggins has many flaws also but I think we need to give me a go now for 2009!
OR
IN - Yarran - could be anything - worth a punt on the big stage????

Must keep in Garlett - love this bloke!!!

Change for round 12
OUT – Cloke - shits me!!!!
IN - Warnock – Warnock and Jocabs (very impressed) rotating in the ruck and Kruzeur to CHF!!!

Re: Round 3:- Changes against Essendon?

Just finished watching most of the game, jeeez, would be pretty hard to drop anyone on form.

Would bring in Carlos or Banno for Jamo and Stevens for Scotland.

As much as I liked Girigg's game last Saturday they are about the only changes I could make on form.

AJ and JR have been very good in shut-down roles and I'd leave AJ in. Also leave Garlett in for his defensive pressure, even if some tackles didn't stick his chasing and pressuring the ball carrier led to mistakes downstream.

Love the hardness and tenacity we are showing, AJ, Wiggo, Judd, Hadley, Murph, Robbo, and Santy should add to that. :thumbsu:

I Heart AJ's chasing and tackling

Re: Round 3:- Changes against Essendon?

The question should be are we Essendon's bitches? Will be answered at 10pm Saturday night I suppose.

Re: Round 3:- Changes against Essendon?

No need to wait til Saturday night - I can answer that for you right now.

NO we are not. I still remember 99 like it was yesterday. We've beaten the bombers when we weren't supposed to on that many occasions it's not funny.

It's obviously a bit more pressure to win when you should, but I'd like to think we're now past that issue.

We'll SMASH em.

Re: Round 3:- Changes against Essendon?

Id bring in Yarran Stevens and Grigg
For the injured Jamo and let Scotland have a breather in the ressies for more match fitness and drop Garlett for the Essendon game.

Those blokes would be ready to go watxhing from the sidelines as the players in the first 2 rounds were doing really wel without them

They would all have a point to prove this week.

Run over the top of their midfield and we will murder them....

Why Yarran? Because he was a high draft pick? We shouldn't be giving players games that way anymore as our depth is very strong and if we did, we'd be sending the wrong message. He hasn't set the world on fire and right now doesn't deserve a call up. He needs to string consistency in the Ants before he has his name thrown up for consideration. As i said before, be patient, no need to rush him.

Re: Round 3:- Changes against Essendon?

I will bet my left nut scotland will play.
Had 28 possies vs Softmond and was ok against brissy so i dont know what all the fuss about Heath is.
Stevo in and either1 of setana/grigg for Garlop/Jamo

I'll take you up on that.

Scotland looked soooo lost against the Lions, he wasn't ok. He had a very very interrupted pre-season, giving him a game or two in the 2's will get his confidence back which was really lacking on the weekend. I think he was somewhat rushed back due to the slight lack of experience in the Round 1. With Stevens and Grigg both back and by the sounds of things playing well, no harm in giving Scotland a rest. Won't see our structure suffer, like-for-like, real possibility IMO.

Re: Round 3:- Changes against Essendon?

The querie will be over the FB and HB line i beleive. I had a flick around with the footy magnets before. If Essendon dont play Neagle then im not sure we need O'hailpin.
My main concern was whether Scotland, Stevens and Johnson can play on players like Skipworth, Davey and Monfries. All 3 of those Bombers are dangerous forwards. I must say that it worried me a little bit. When i swapped a few things around i ended up with Bannister down there, and i must say it looked a better defensive unit. But the trouble with that will be; Can we take 2 taggers (joseph, Banno) into a game? And bringing in Banno ment another player needed to be dropped.

Banno has been playing CHB in the Ants and we have seen he is actaully quite capable of playing on bigger opponents. Im not sure whether Joseph is. But Joseph has been really solid in the first 2 rounds and would be EXTREMELY unlucky to miss out.

I think this should happen:

Banno in for Jamison
Stevens in for Garlett
Grigg in for..........
Ohailpin Emerg. and to come in for Banno if Bellchambers plays (as Hille will spend time forward)

Re: Round 3:- Changes against Essendon?

Grigg needs to play as far as I am concerned, I would rather have him in the side than JR or Stevens.

Stevo is a senior player, and the vice captain.

JR plays a tagging role and has done his job each week. You can't drop a guy the week after he performed his role in the side to perfection.

Re: Round 3:- Changes against Essendon?

Although I agree with you about JR, I still think he needs to improve his disposal. Grigg is in top form according to a lot of reports and he needs to play, he has done everything asked of him.

I am not going to start an argument with you, you clearly have a set against these 2 and no amount of logic will sway you, so it is a waste of both our time.

I have no problem with just one change to cover for Jamo, and as Ratts has already pointed out, Stevens is in. Perhaps there will be one other change, I dont know, there are hints that Carlos might play. I think he will be named an emergency.

I have absolutely no fear going into this game. None. We will smash them. We showed how much more dominant our team is against sides we were equal to last year, Tiges first up, Lions second. We showed that our mids are the key, if they are up and about we will smash sides around or below us. We are yet to be tested by a contender. Essendon is not a contender.

BUT, we all (fans and players) learned a valuable lesson in the third qtr against the lions.

That 3rd qtr also showed that if you relax, if you leave it in the locker room as we did after half time, happy we had done enough, any side, even this piss poor bombers team can hurt you. We were awoken and fortunately in the last switched back on. But we wasted an opportunity to smash 2 sides 2 weeks in a row by 10 goals plus.

I doubt Ratts will allow them to switch off this week. Not given the lesson last week and v them last year. I expect a fast tough first qtr, pretty even, a goal in it, we pull away in the second to be 3-4 goals up at half time. Then I expect to absolutely poll axe them in the third to be 40 points up at 3/4 time and to keep the pressure on until the 20 minute mark of the last to a 10 goal win.

That is what the form says. Footy is a funny game, but I doubt we have too much (as fans) to worry about this week. 3-0 and retain top.
