Autopsy Round 4, 2024 : Hawks get Pied

With a bit more composure in the last 5-10 minutes we would/should have won that . All without a key forward to work with.

Thought our second half was fantastic. We looked a totally different side to the one in the 2nd quarter which was as poor as Ive seen from us .

Mackenzie made a few errors but loved him backing his skills in . Looks to now know he is more than up to it .
Ward was great . Slow burn but a good one .
Chol a big single figure possesion game
Frost is in career best form .
Hardwick has serious forward craft and now must stay forward .
Welcome back Newc . Was huge .

We very easily could be 2-2 not 0-4 .

Dimma’s accuracy with goal kicking was a breath of fresh air.
Has the best kicking technique, no need to kick around corners when you can relax your shoulder and guide the ball as well as he does.

Okay, we came back in the second half. I'm happy about that aspect of the game in that it meant we didn't get belted by 10 goals. However, if we keep going out there in the 1st qtr and not giving a yelp, we are not going to win too many games. The season is already gone in terms of making the top 8, I don't want to see us pile on late wins like we did last year, finish near the bottom and then start slowly again in 2025. We can make all the excuses we like, but the bottom line is, we are not switched on from the start of the game. Who is to blame for that?

our first quarter wasn't that bad. it was our second quarter that was very disappointing

We did give a yelp in the first quarter.

If Chol kicked that goal and we prevented the goal in the last minute it would have been a 3 goal to 2 quarter and a good result for playing just ok.

Impey had a shocker early but worked his way into the game.
Has been a liability and should be dropped. Leadership, he isn’t providing much of that.

Tonight, early in the game, deep in the back pocket, instead of hand passing or running the ball over the line, he instead snapped a blind kick and centred it to CHF for a Collingwood mark and goal. Horrible.

But highlighting these things isn’t looked upon favourably on here.

Ward and Newk looked in the best shape they've played this year! Wonder if maybe Hustwaite should have started on field rather than sub? I always figured on a loss today so it was good to see the pies s**t themselves and almost choke.

Seems like he has 1 massive brainfade in him every game. It's tough when you're under siege though.

Expected score had us breakeven at quarter time and leading just after. The two Chol misses hurt.

The biggest issue is, do the coaches stick with the same positional changes at the start of the Gold Coast game?
Can/should they settle on players for a 3-4 week period and see what we have?

Ward struggles a little on the wing but showed more as a midfielder.
Amon - everyone knew that
Hardwick - may need some love in a free agency year

Call them professional all you like, players are human and when not played in a position they feel they excel at,
they aren't going to produce their best, not deliberately, more just a lack of ownership of the positional change.

Wasn't really put in a good position to do anything useful with the ball but maybe could have targeted the boundary line. Took a couple of good marks later in the game too. Solid player despite his horrific leg injury a few years back.

Happy and really disappointed.
Happy we showed a lot in the second half and again, our best can stand up against the best.
Meek, excellent, newc and Worpel were too, backline stood up for the most part and forwards found a way to get back in to it.
Disappointed that we again had a quarter where we were uncompetitive for large parts, I.e. qtr 2.

We had a chance to win it and failed. Hopefully we can learn from it and get a win on the Gold Coast

Would like to see Butler get a full game in Crocs position as a HFF. He was caught in no man's land in the forward pocket all game when we couldn't exit our D50.

Yep, I'd like to see this too. Croc is too good to miss altogether, so does he move to the midfield or to HB?

It was fun seeing Ginni stir up all the Collingwood guys.

He doesn't play for frees at all. The two high tackles he got he kept focused on keeping on his feet, finding a good option, etc. Did not stop to appeal or look at the umpire.

And the way he laughed in Maynard's face when Maynard was giving the big finger point. Great stuff.

If you're going to go for a hack kick you need to go boundary side.

There is no way in hell a fanciful snap around the corner to CHF is the correct decision. It was just a massive brain fade.

I think Finn was moved off Daicos in the 3rd quarter. Regardless, I agree that Finn is disappointing with his disposals. However, the question is what do you do when you send him to Box Hill and he responds with a BOG performance?

I thought Finn played well in the first half and then went out of the game in the second half after Sam moved him off Naicos. Agree his disposal is poor. And no left foot.

Lewis should be shown a replay of Hardwick's game of how a forward should play. Constant movement allowed him to get space and actual leading for the ball instead of stand and wrestle the whole time

Lewis isn't right and it's nothing to do with his hamstring. It may be a niggle but I think it's more to do with whats above the shoulders.

First game this season i was able to watch properly as I’ve been travelling. Good to see Newk back to form. Best games I’ve seen from Meek and Ward. Chol contested well but finished poorly, which is the opposite of what I expected.

Not sure if Weddle is being told to focus more on defending his man, but missing his dash.

Just couldn't find a target inside 50 in the 1st
Led inside 50's 14-11 and contested ball 42-36

Frosty could almost be AA fullback. Having a great year.

Two of the best FB this season are Frampton and Frost.

They've both got something to prove.
