Round 4 Adelaide vs Carlton

Early whisper, Waite, Thornton and McLean out for garlett, white and Judd. Only my early mail as would have thought walker and warnock would have been in trouble before Waite and Thornton.

also what i've heard, apparently waite's dropping is self-inflicted as he has a complete lack of confidence, lets hope its not long til hes back if this is true

FB: Joseph Jamison White

HB: Russell Thornton Scotland

C: Waite Gibbs Simpson

HF:Yarran Hendersen O'hAlpin

FF:Kreuzer Wiggins Betts

RR: Warnock, Judd, Murphy

Bench: Houlihan, Walker, Robinson, Gartlett,

Emer: Hadley, Carazzo, Armfield, Jacobs,

Unfortunately we are still very small on our backline, but with Bower unlikely and Austin far from ready we don't have anyone else big enough nor good enough. It's still our problem area.

At this stage Mclean is out, Bower us unlikely and Waite is on the verge.

What i have just heard is that Thornton was on the chopping block, but pleaded to the MC that he would put in a much better performance vs Adelaide. Last Chance however.
Lets just say he is lucky Bower wont play.

Waite may go back to the Bullants.

Garlett is apparently a Certainty.

Weaken our defense further by getting rid of T Bird?
That can't be right...please don't do it Ratts!
Have I missed the sarcasm? :p

Honestly, we should have taken the Hawthorn offer in 2006.

Garland and Petterd/Tippett would be more than handy in our side.

A description of Thornton as a slow Jason Cloke type was on the money.

Don't run little one.

Thornton is adding zero to out 22. Check out Reimers first goal last week, Thornton goes to ground like the princess he has always been.

F off Thornton.

oh please, he was brilliant for us last year and just when he has 2 bad games out of position even when the rest of the team was shite, we're calling for his head?
by that logic Waite will be delisted

Disagree completely re last year. Adds no rebound. Shocking disposal. Puts others under pressure. Can't play on big forwards. Always lagging behind his opponent.

Would rather a first gamer make these mistakes than a 150 gamer week in week out.

If you're correct, I'm grateful that we haven't given a game to Wiggins who is history

Houlihan should be dropped for Hadley.

Judd shouldn't be played as an inside midfielder with Mclean out for a week.

Waite should play ahead of Thornton.

Thornton and Houlihan are poor tacklers and don't put their head over the ball.

I don't mind them giving Warnock a game.

When was the last time a player dropped himself because he lacked confidence?

Waite might be down on confidence after his knee troubles, but it's still a strange suggestion.

i know it sounds strange but what i heard was that he and ratts had a meeting and waitey said how hard he was finding it, and ratts is possibly sending back to the 2's to find some touch, so we'll see if he get named or not

Instead, the message could be sent at selection tonight, although the coach said he was tossing up whether to allow players a chance to redeem themselves.

Lets just say he is lucky Bower wont play.
Key defender Paul Bower, who has missed the past two rounds with a torn quadriceps, is likely to miss at least another two weeks.

Should be dropped.

If Waite is feeling that way then you'd have to reckon they're better off bringing another player in. Almost anyone is going to have a better time of it than a player who doesn't wanna be out there.

Must be heartbreaking for the bloke after so long on the sidelines ...

Assuming this is all true of course :)

I seriously cannot believe the clowns on this board that are currently slagging TBird yet defend Walker. TBird has been one of our most dependable defenders over a long period of time (if he's so bad then why did Hawthorn want him so much?) and happens to be going through a bad patch of form. Walker has been one of our most inconsistent performers and aside from the very rare good game, has done absolutely nothing except clogg our list.

Come this weekend you TBird knockers will be eating your words.

Agree, tbird has many times saved us. Unfortunately though it looks like he may be playing with ants. One of the knocks is that he should be presenting harder when kicking out providing the key tall target that we need instead of always having to chip short and taking an internity to get out off D50

Can't see why he would get dropped. He has been 'The General' in our defence for so long (oh the irony of using that term to defend Thornton) and who is going to come in for him? We need experienced heads in defence and Jamo cannot do it all by himself.

I mean when Bower is missing from the side, Walker continually goes missing, & Armfield isn't exactly the best decision maker at times, the guy must be stressing hard trying to cover a lot of holes in our defence.

It seemed in the pre-season games and even the first couple of rounds that we were working to get the ball in the hands of the better users by foot. Not sure what happened last week...

Scotland needs to return to the backline, and be given some time and space to deliver the ball upfield. Yarran off the HBF might be another option if Garlett is coming in...he had a reasonable game against Adelaide last year playing further up the ground which might give him some confidence.

Houlihan should be kept. The left foot stab on to Setanta's (I think) chest against Brisbane is all the evidence we need that this bloke should be delivering the ball into the 50. Against a more one-paced Adelaide side he should be more comfortable. Similarly Gibbs needs to play a more attacking forward of centre role...put the acid on him this week to find the pill and make Adelaide pay.

With no Bock and likely no Stevens, Maric will push back deep into defense much like he did against Melbourne, so the long bomb option, for so long our only plan of attack, will not be on (especially with Rutten already prowling). We will get the ball inside 50 more than enough times to win the game this week...whether or not we find someone with those entries is another matter.

Wasn't rapt with Ratts 'I wanted to give the boys a hard session but the sports scientists told me not too' line. Hardly strikes fear into the players hearts. We were coming off two long breaks, and it didn't seem to do North too much harm. Not sure about this one...even with a combined age of 346, Edwards, Goodwin and McLeod still scare the shit out of me.

Coming from you Molly I'll accept that as being a possibility, but quite frankly that would be tantamount to suicide.

The three talls get on quite well down back when all are playing.
There is good synergy amongst them.

Last week Walker gave Thornton a mouthful when there was no cause to, after Gumbletons marked over him.
Thornton being Thornton didn't take kindly to being lambasted on field and his performance suffered from there on in.
(It was only metres in front of me so I know what I'm talking about)

We start stripping our team now would not augur well for not just this season but beyond.
Unite the team for f..ks sake not dismantle it.

So Walker is to blame for Thornton's form because he gave him a bake? :D

The irony is Thornton has been a master at giving his teammates a bake and pointing the finger.

Thornton just let a taller opponent in Ryder lead him to the ball and take an easy uncontested mark.

He deserves a bake.

I take it you missed Thornton's turnovers and lack of intensity in the last two rounds.

Considering he's a flanker, Walker mostly did well on Gumbleton who is a genuine KP height.

Academy Award Nomination for most convincing act of disappointment when his opp takes a mark in front of him
