Ok so if you are Chris Scott reviewing that, are you impressed??? Do you think that 4qtr effort will beat many sides???

There is a ton to work on.
I am not Chris Scott so I will just enjoy the win rather than throwing my toys out of the cot.

Disagree. First half was putrid, I agree, but out second half would have been competitive against anyone. Sure hands, quick movement through traffic, accurate disposal, and tackles that actually stick- these are encouraging signs.

Holmes, Bruhn, and Bowes were colossal. Dempsey is a real wild card. And how nice is it to finally have a big crash&bash ruckman again, moreover one who wins contested footy and takes marks?
Looked like a carbon copy of the GWS/Port/Melbourne games, except Richmond are very crap.

Richmond were always going to struggle to run out 4qtrs.

We should have done a lot better

I don't think we know how to use him and it's killing our structure forward. We kick to him like he's a key forward but he cant out mark key defenders. The balance was much better with Rohan in there both in 2022 and after half time.

I'm an advocate for dropping a tall and playing a resting midfielder. Not to advocate for a specific player too much but I think Knevitt could fit the job description.
He’s a one trick pony that really has nothing else to offer than jump kick goal.
Very one dimensional.
A couple of games in the Magoos to learn a few extra tricks IMO.

Geez just checking stats, Tom Atkins was far better than the eye test for me (although I was bias against his average first half).
27 touches, 15 contested, 10 clearances (game high), 11 tackles (game high).

5 goal win …I’ll take it consider how bad the first half was

This team is incapable of playing well until the sting goes out of the contest. Good teams will punish that heavily.

No sugar coating it. Poor performance to take 3 quarters to overrun Richmond's reserves.

Neale showed enough tonight to hold his place. Thought Mullin and O'Connor were quite poor. Crispy Irish potatoes tonight.

Cameron roaming anywhere but the F50 is starting to shit me.nowhere near enough time spent up forward.
They have and will continue to. It looked like dejavu halfway thru that second quarter.

Only difference is Richmond weren’t good enough to go as far ahead as other sides

Your first paragraph is spot on.

It has happened all season. I reckon it is our lack of speed in the midfield. When everyone is fresh we can’t keep up. Then the speed goes out of the game, we can close down the oppositions run and we play a field position game.

The bad news is that there is no quick fix.

I'm not sure I agree with that. This year early on he was showing an ability to bring smalls into it, but now we're dropping it onto packs from 50m out he can't do that.

My eye test would have had him in my top 3 players with Bowes and Dempsey

I’m just not impressed with taking until the fourth quarter to break away and a 5 goal down comeback to overrun the second worst side in the AFL who have half their side missing.

There is nothing to be happy about in terms of performance besides we got the points.

I was being sarcastic, as ‘some’ in a few game threads critici

Your a fun sponge

You know, you're allowed to enjoy the win for 10 minutes before jumping into Debbie Downer mode for next week....
Enjoy it, I’m not stopping you. I’m entitled to my opinion and I am very unimpressed what what I saw. I don’t think i am alone on that. Richmond are a very ordinary side

Well done to the MC for keeping Olí Dempsey when some people (including me) thought he needed a week off. He was brilliant.

Atkins and Bowes great after half time. Holmes good all game.

Good signs from Neale.

Miers strangely off the boil.

Moving Dempsey to the forward line did seem to be the spark that ignited us in the second quarter

After that point, he seemed to play a role similar to what we saw from him against St Kilda in round 1 - start forward and push up the ground

In the weeks that followed, he moved more into that permanent wing role and at one stage was rated in the top 5 wings in the comp. Even during the warm-up tonight he was purely with the midfield group

Maybe we need to better find the balance with him between time forward and working up the ground - maybe he's something of the Rohan type replacement up forward who can compete in the air and cause problems at ground level, while finding a bit more of the ball

But how does crying like a child help?

If it makes you that unhappy maybe you need a new hobby. I hear knitting is strangely satisfying.

A crucial win; nothing illuminating or inspiring but an intractable victory by a club accustomed to doing so on home turf.

My biggest take away from 2024 so far: thank %#@! we signed Max Holmes for 4 years. We are lucky to have him on board. There is a looseness to his game that sometimes rankles, but it is more than offset by the sheer moxie Max shows with his willingness to take the game on. He was the best player out there tonight.
