Hello Eagles fans!

The embedded resources below are kept up to date by the trade board mods (as much as possible – we are human after all). Enjoy!

Keys you may like to sticky this post & move it to the start of the thread (so the sticky post doesn't rotate if a post is deleted before it), or copy it to your draft thread if you have one.

Their list is going backwards this trade and draft periods.

Their guns in Dangerfield,Tuowey and Hawkins in in their last year or two as is Blicavs.
This is true, but because of home ground/fixturing advantages and the best 'go home' factor in footy - their floor is not like any of the other clubs.

Short of an Essendon style scandal (one that's actually investigated) it's nearly impossible for them to truly bottom out.

i love how ROB says we dont know who we would take at #1, like STFU you fat Elton John MOFO from Alibaba express...

Like stop with the BS, why cant the club just be transparent. You/We would take Reid, he is ranked #1 on everyones mock draft since last year ya dweeb, ffs.

And this is why he's the list manager of an AFL club and you're just someone losing their shit over nothing on the internet :)

Nothing interview from O’Brien but that’s on the hosts

Could have asked if we were happy with our draft hand, with or without pick 1, and if we might use future picks to to improve it

Could have asked about players other than Curtin, especially after he claimed we hadn’t settled on pick 1

Could have asked if there was any interest from clubs in any of our senior players

Now be probably would’ve given the same non-commital answers to those questions as he did the ones he was asked, but at least ask something different

As for his ambivalence around pick 1 his answers in a live radio interview have next to no difference on what we get offered. Clubs will offer what they think will sway us and we can say yes or no to those offers

As to what will sway us, that’s for the club to know and the others to find out. For now, they need to know there’s a chance

All it confirms is the trade pick 1 discussion will be with us until draft night

I would have loved them to ask how he views the draft, I.e. a lot of teams have a clear top selection, a group of 4-6 more potential elite talents, then a group of maybe 10-20 relatively even. What are his thoughts.

Would get the answer/s the general public want without the leading question re Curtin etc (granted it is harder to make the Curtin link if he isn’t named, so by asking only about him it is an easy way to more clickbait)

i still cant believe you guys are still discussing trading the pick ffs, and ROB is an idiot.

It's like being open to trade the Chris Judd pick not that will be Judd, why is this even a discussion.

There are other ways to bring in picks,e.g. trade out senior players or future picks.

This club is re tarded if we dont pick Reid, wouldnt be able to support the club.

Club has gone soft, so fricken soft.

Judd wasn’t no1.

Amazing judgment of the club being soft when draft or trade hasn’t happened yet.

I don’t get the surprise and angst with Mr O’Briens interview and lame answers.

Hardly expect the listing agent of a premium property, revealing the reserve price of the Peppermint Grove mansion with river views, to all interested parties a month before the auction, when it’s listed at suits buyers from 18 million +

RO’B has always played with a straighter bat than Geoffrey Boycott.

I actually like that he does that.
He may come across as boring as batshit, but tactically its a strong position to trade from.

The other list managers already have a feel for what a trade offer would need to be better than.

We had one serious offer from Hawthorn:

Pick 4 this draft.
Their F1
Brockman

Then there was the ambit claim from the Beggars.

Not even worth bothering typing it out, it was so putrid.

So the Hawks genuine offer was declined, anything less than that will likewise be rejected.

Anything better …. depending on just how much better ……. is yet to be seen.

I have no doubt that there will be at least one more genuine offer, that will come ( once vAFL House ratifies the offer ) from the Beggars…. vAFL will have a say because The Beggars are playing with House Money.

Personally I hope we string the media and The Beggars out till the very last minutes before the draft and just call Harley Reid’s name out for ourselves.

What a wonderfully big F YOU to Kane, Dillon and The Beggars. 🖕

But I am also mindful and appreciative that the WC Recruiting team will be a little more emotionally mature than me, ensuring that they will fully evaluate and appraise the offers on their merits and do what best for the Club long term.

So for me it’s a prepare for the life without Harley but with a hope for the best mind set.

After years of following the draft our recruiter rarely do as I want and initially disappoint me, with who they selected.
Although having said that last years National draft and the last two mid season draft the recruiters have for filled all my wants and expectations.

Personally I loved the pick split at 2 that landed us Ginbey & Hewett.

One thing, I think we can all agree on, is that …. it’s going to be a long drawn out excruciating wait from now till draft night.

I do find it interesting that for the past 24 months it's been borderline unanimous that Reid is the #1 ranked player in this draft and easily the most sought after..

Been described as a generational talent more times than Briztoon has lectured everyone about how academy selections don't really push your picks back.

Aaand yet Rohan is that much of a genius and smarter than everyone, he gives the "Aww yeah, we're still undecided on rankings and waiting on medicals..." Like Reid isn't the clear best player in the draft and Tholstrup is actually ranked 1 on his draft board 🤷‍♂️

If anything he's giving Sam Maclure ammo with that sort of response. Potentially doing that on purpose to troll the flog media so they continue with their absurd "WCE will select Curtin no matter what" rhetoric I guess.

Either way, it's a far cry from what everyone on here wanted with Rohan shutting the football media up by talking up Reid, what a good fit he'd be and endorsing him in publicly.

In short, this thread isn't getting any better any time soon.

ROB always seems pretty blase and opaque in interviews. I wouldn’t read too much into it. He’s been clear that it would take a special package for us to move off the pick, which hasn’t been forthcoming. Signs still point to us taking 1 at the draft, but that could change if North gets serious or decided to split pick 3 with the Dees.

I get the feeling North are content taking McKercher and Durssma. Accumulating mid and scoreboard fwd/mid to add to LDU, Sheezel and Wardlaw.

I think OB needs to ask the BF audience via a poll to find out what trade scenario to lock in.

He could phone a friend but that may be Credits Simpson so not sure what he would get there.

Now a 50/50 is something that could be very dramatic.

All hosted by Eddie.

lol it's nothing like the Judd comparison. Judd wasn't the consensus #1 pick, he was seen as an injury risk which is why he went at #3.

If anything the Judd point is an argument for trading the pick.

He surpringly chose Culley when Culley was the obvious selection.

If anything Reid is more obvious than Culley was.

Calm down babes, Elton knows what he's doing.

Can’t compare the MSD with the national draft though, I’m sure if you could split MSD picks the Pieman probably would’ve explored it.

That’s the thing though that interview didn’t seem like a straight bat. It sounded more like an advertisement for #1 and without particularly talking it up very well. He’s been good so far this trade period but it’s been a long week and don’t think that was a good interview. Don’t think he increased the value of #1

Yeah but we still don’t know how many of Reid’s teammates came to his birthday party. What happens if none did?

There appears to be quite a correlation on here between posters who have very strong views on not splitting pick 1, not even if North offered 2 & 3, because Harley Reid is going to be Judd and Ablett rolled into one and Pick 1 is so valuable that why would you split it etc etc and the posters who two months ago on here, after we nearly lost pick 1 with our junk time win over the Bulldogs were saying that Pick 1 doesn't matter. Two months ago they were saying that pick 1 wasn't really any more valuable than pick 2 and the win over the Bulldogs was going to ensure a strong "culture" at the club for the next decade and you can't put a price on that and then they rolled out pointless anecdotes about how many Number 1 picks had played in a flag. How they have changed their tune now.

Do you think a single club official from any rival club paid any attention to that interview?

I am in the JTR camp but not at all confident this will be the result.

The recruiting team have a long history of trying to get the maximal result and end up outsmarting themselves.
Chesser is a recent example. Very hard to see him being better than Matthew Johnson who was the obvious pick.

ROB making clear one thing and that is the pick is still for sale.

I can see us watching HR for the next 15 years and thinking if only ….

Do you think a single club official from any rival club paid any attention to that interview?

Nah not really but media will take snippets of what he said and add to the overall perception that we are not sold on Reid at one, which may weaken our bargaining power a little. In the scheme of things probably meant nothing but just didn’t think it was his best interview.

Disclaimer; this post isn’t aimed specifically at you, Get_The_Gaff, but discussing where I see West Coast in relation to some of the discussion here, and some of the challenges West Coast potentially faces in rebuilding.

You are only getting 1 first round pick per year.

And then you are watching your second round pick get pushed back 5 to 10 spots.

You think this year is bad for your second round pick being pushed back.

Next year will be worse with the number of father son kids, and a couple of academy kids.

Man, you don’t even want to look at 2025. There were 5 Gold Coast kids in the U16 AA team, 2 Lions, 2 Swans, 2 Giants. Add in 2 Tasmanians as well.

Ok you get Reid this year.

And say Finn O’Sullivan next year.

Then there’s the prospect of compromised drafts ahead of Tasmania joining the competition.

You’re only drip feeding top end talent in, while you’re top mature age talent declines and ages out of the team.

You’re not even replacing the level of talent you are losing, with the same numbers coming in.

You’re putting pressure on your recruiting team to hit on almost every later draft selection, just to break even on the talent in v talent out equation.

It’s great to talk about potential free agent acquisitions, but that’s all it is, talk, until those players actually nominate West Coast in the future.

And as much as fans here like to ridicule Fremantle, they are being proactive in trying to attract top end WA talent back to the state, before they reach free agency.
You are basically saying we are going to have a shit year in regards to keeping players on the park. Surely after this much time and scrutiny that area alone will have the biggest influence on our rise up the ladder.
If; and it is if; Cripps, Yo , Ryan,Burgiel and …. Can spend more time on the field we will improve a LOT.
Flynn will give us grunt,Ginbey will be fitter and BIGGER,
BW into the forward line gives us another target.
Reid will be best 22 comfortably.
A lot of our kids have seen action and will be sick of getting belted.Rest assured Reid will not accept mediocrity!.
My prediction? 6-10 wins.
