2012 Post Season - Retirements and delistings (list changes) thread

This smacks of Hinkley and Richardson putting their mark on "their" list - and rightly so. To blame Rohde in isolation is short-sighted and an easy cop out.
The new coaching regime are applying a completely impartial assessment of the players delisted so far - and as previously posted, needs to go a bit further.

The remnants of the 2007 event are finally being removed.

Whilst I have no real issue with the list of players delisted (thought surj could get another year), the more players we remove from our first 22 and fringe raises the likelihood that we will need to play the likes of logan, hitchy, thomas & megahead all in the team start of next year. Would be a lot more comfortable if we were adding some experience beyond monfries so far. This is certainly shaping as a substantial rebuild. I have faith in this direction for the medium term however there could be more pain to come next year before we see the upside.

Jason Cripps and Peter Rohde have been reviewing the list all year. This is not a Richardson-Hinkley collaborative. This is a place faith in the ******s we have in the footy ops department move

It's going to be 2018 before we show any sort of relevance in the AFL again

Surjan booted....Logan/Hitchcock remain.....

Here comes the cull we wanted.

Can't turn over half the list straight away, I'm sure a few more 'favourites' will be gone at the end of 2013.

Cold as it sounds, Surj isn't going to be a part of our next premiership team (neither will Brett Ebert, Logan and Thomas, but that's another story).

Why would they get rid of Surj, of anyone on our list he consistently does his role well ......
Consistently? Nonsense. Between injury and poor form he has been of little value for a couple of years now, and only became a regular again in the latter part of 2012. If you don't want to continue in Groundhog Day mode this is the sort of axe-wielding we needed.

There'd be a few players feeling nervous about their spots on the list now which is a good thing.
Like Macca, I get the feeling this is just the first cut, there's still another week of trading to go.

This is only the first list lodgement. THere will probably be more delistings... I guess they are just waiting to see what else they get in the trade period.

Peter Rohde: So Hinks, we've gone and delisted the players you suggested after your interviews with them. Must admit, I'm a little surprised at Surjan.
Ken Hinkley: Well, Surjan seemed like a good kid, but I don't see a role for a skinny small forward with no pace who gets knocked over in the smallest breeze.
Peter Rohde: Huh? Surj is a veteran, lock-down small defender and is anything but skinny.
Ken Hinkley: Hitchcock! I meant Cam Hitchcock! Sorry, my bad. Go easy, it's my first week. LOL.
Peter Rohde: Oh, ****.

In all likelihood no-one on our list will while we're on a North Melbourne/Western Bulldogs budget, but it would make no sense to delist players with potential and keep deadwood.

Surjan and Banner can play. A host of stayers cannot.

Reminds me of the Blight clean out in 1996. Big fan of this, although as people have pointed out it could have gone further. Let the rejuvenation begin!!!

Lets be honest the majority of us called for a major cull to our list.
I'd give the culling process a C grading.

Banner - really surprised as I thought he was quite a decent player and amazed they couldn't have traded him out for a mid pick (will get picked up)
Surjan - quite surprised as he gives his all and still better in this team than others (may get picked up)
Rodan - 50/50 as they could have well kept him on the list as an impact player (may get picked up)
Phillips - no comment (not a chance in hell he'll get picked up)
Curnow / Webb / Irons - could see it coming (very unlikely to get picked up)

Correct that others can feel very lucky 'unless' they aint done with yet  !!! (DS, CH, MT, TL)

Of course it is a Hinkley/Richardson thing - as stated they are "his players now" - if he wanted them he would have kept them - it's their nuts on the line.
We get too attached to players - Kinkley and Richardson would know our players more than we realise. As assistant coaches they would have a dossier on every player in the AFL and would know them well - if they don't, they wouldn't be doing their job. Kinkley would have been asked questions on our list at his interviews.

Banner and surj can play......
Surely our current coaches, hocking, carr etc.. would of had input.

Considering they weren't played under hocking, I would assume they gave negative feedback to hinkley.

Now, logan played every game under hocking, I expect a contract extension...
