Banner was delisted because Matthew Primus and Tony Bamford are crap at their jobs, not because he's crap at his own job.

Just can't agree with this. If the above were true, you may as well add Hocking and the coach from Banner's other SANFL club to the list. Banner still couldn't get AFL time after Primus walked, with a 17 man injury list and in his 4th year in the system. At some point you just have to cut your losses.

I guess the proof will be in whether or not Banner finds another AFL club to revive his career next year or after a Nick Lower type penitence.

No, I am saying that he and the PAFC selectors have more information and ability to judge a player's ability than you, me and 90% of BF.

nah this went out the window during the 2011 season, the wise heads on this board would've got us a better finish if they were all in the coaches box this and last season.

Knowledge and wisdom are different things. Primus had far more knowledge than the average Bigfooty poster, but I don't think he had much wisdom.
So you must have met and spoken to Matty to make this call?

I always liked Primus. I thought he could see a future for the club, and kept his aim straight for his entire tenure. We may find that he was terrible by virtue of Hinkley turning the club around, but Hinkley is part of a much better club than Primus was initially. Mark Haysman was still CEO - quite frankly the results of KT's time prove just how useless that guy was - barely any assistant coaches, no Richardson to help him out with looking after said assistant coaches, and Cameron "Powerband" Falloon as the fitness department.

The list is basically the same, although our midfield is significantly better than it was when Primus started (shoutout to Cobra and Bradbert), so if Hinkley takes us to the finals or something ridiculous then I will 100% agree with you that Primus was a bad coach, but I am absolutely not expecting us to get above 5 or 6 wins next season short of an amazing run with injuries.

I just really liked Primus from the outside because he seemed to understand the direction we needed to take. Yes he failed, but I don't believe that was all on him regardless of what he would say about it. I think he certainly ****ed up on the training end of things this year, by not training our skills enough and aiming to stop fade-outs during games - which to be fair we did have less of. As far as gameday tactics go I never really analysed our games enough to comment, though I did feel we had a good game plan last year but my memory when it comes to footy is shocking, so I don't know for sure.

The final thing I will say though, is that in my experience with playing any sport, and particularly footy. Those who train the best, almost always get to play come gameday even if they play shit. Those who don't train well, often don't get to play, even when they play well on gameday. BTW never ****ing play cricket unless you are the captain. Easily the best natural leg-spinner in my side, yet I got maybe one or two overs a game while the captain (3rd batsman) and his best mate bowled their top spinners all day.

Not until we know the Adelaide Oval deal they don't.

+ Haysman got the ball rolling RE Adelaide Oval - no easy feat especially in SANFL/One-way expressway/Le Cornu site/retractable lights South Australia

..... Mark Haysman was still CEO - quite frankly the results of KT's time prove just how useless that guy was ......
KT was parachuted in as part of the rescue package that also included enough money to actually run an AFL club. Haysman didn't have that luxury

I think Pettard might be Melbourne's version of Matt Thomas. In that if you only watch 1 in 10 games he looks like a super star, but if you see him play week in week out he's just a below average footballer.

he has had injury problems this year and the last but previously to that I thought he wasnt bad on the half forward line.

Just looking at an order now and I think that getting a KPD will be hard at #31 as my view is Clurey, Jaksch and McBean will be all gone so unless they rate Rodda / Smith / Close high enough then I think they may just go best available and try and land someone with your PSD pick later on. Seems to me Gillies makes sense.

Would they go KPF?

Why would we pick up another tall defender? We have Carlile, Trengove, Hombsch and 2-3 others who can pinch hit.

Hinkley wants guys who can run and carry and with Pearce and Rodan gone we have no outside mids. We will probably just look for speed/skills.

4 KPF's, 4 KPD's and 4 rucks should be a minimum of in a squad of 40. That way you don't have to worry about in between talls. Injuries happen and if Carlile and Trengove go down at the same time and you only have Hombsch as the KPD and we play a side that will play 3 or 4 guys over 195cm in their forward line we will be stuffed.

Can't see how your post is relevant to the thread title nor any recent posts. Nothing wrong with what you wrote per se, just almost as if posted in the wrong thread.

We dont do that.

We dont do that.

I know that has been our problem for too long.

We did have 5 ruckmen in 2001 and then 6 in 2002. Primus, Lade (double broken leg 2000 and 2001) Ackland, French, Brogan(rookie elevated at end of 2001) and Brooks (2002).

Down back
Wakelin, Paxman (tore his ACL Rd 22 2001), Mead, Bishop, Morgan and Thurstans

Forward always lacking
Tredrea, Lockwood, Chad, White (2002)

Looks like it won't just be Kenny who will be in Jacobs ear to stay ..

Butcher revealed he is trying to convince Ben Jacobs to remain at the club.

Jacobs requested a trade to North Melbourne during Gillette AFL Trade Period, which did not eventuate.

"I actually gave him a few calls pre his decision to go back (home) … I've already sent him a message post trade not going through and (I'm) pretty keen to have a chat to him on the phone," he said.

"I think a lot of the boys have been in contact after the trade didn't go through and, like I said, the players will welcome him back with open arms."

In the article - click link ;) - Butcher also talks about Jurrah and Campbell

Mitch Banner, if his card wasn't marked before the last minor round sanfl game it surely was afterwards. In a game which is your likely to be your last for six months but if you win you are a sneaky chance to play finals football his decision to stand still or take three steps as the ball went from offence to defense showed that he is no more than a country league football. No Pride in his own performance, just went through the motions of playing football. His lack of defensive effort is the perfect example of where we have gone wrong as a club since 2007. Anybody who is not prepared to work for his team mates needs to be weeded out of the club ASAP and this off season is the first time I have seen the club address this issue.

Ok, been doing some reading RE the vets list - it is due to change next season.

Currently, vets need to be 30 before september 30 of the revelant season and played for 10 years. Half a veteran's salary can be outside of cap unless you have more than 2 veterans in which case the number of veterans you have becomes the demoninator in determining how much of their salary is outside of the cap e.g. 4 veterans = 1/4 = 25% of each veteran's salary is outside of the cap.

The new rule states that veterans only need to have served a club for 10 years so the 30 year rule is out. As far as salary goes, it is no longer a percentage, instead it's roughly ~$110K outside of the club per veterans. So, if you have 8 veterans, you could theoretically have ~$880K outside of the cap. This means Port Adelaide could have 3 veterans in 2013 - Dom, Mega and Kane which works out to ~$330K outside of our cap. Lists will be 38 + 6, 39 + 5 or 40 + 4 not including special class rookies such as international signings, 3 year non registered, etc. The 2 bonus rookie spot scheme ends this year meaning clubs will have 4 main (a.k.a. Cat A) rookie spots for 2013. If a club has no veterans it may sign up to 2 extra rookies.

So, in 2013 Port Adelaide should have a list of 40 + 4.

In 2012 Port Adelaide had 39 + 6 - 38 senior players, 1 veteran and 6 rookies. The club did have a spot for a 7th rookie but elected not to fill it.

Senior list changes:
In: Monfries, Hombsch, Neade, Stevenson, Heath (all trades), Jonas (promoted rookie), ND#7, ND#30, ND#31, ND#85/PSD#5 [10]
Out: Pearce (FA), Chaplin (FA), Rodan (trade), Surjan, Banner, Phillips (all delisted), McCarthy (RIP), Salopek (walked), Jacobs (maybe) [9]

We'll be able to have 1 extra on our senior list in 2013, so, with Jacobs leaving, we'll have 4 senior spots available - 3 for the ND and 1 for the PSD. If Jacobs has a change of heart we'll have 3 spots available and we'll need to make one more delistment if we want a PSD pick.

Rookie list changes:
In: RD#5, RD#23 [2]
Out: Webb, Irons, Curnow (all delisted), Jonas (promoted) [4]

D.Butcher and Pfeiffer are retained as second year rookies. Our rookie list shrinks from 7 available spots to 4.

Today is important

October 31, 2pm – List Lodgement One.

Shouldn't we have taken McCarthy & Salopek off our list & placed Pfeiffer back on the Rookie List by now?
