Had a nightmare last night that we lost the game on the final kick, then I woke up in the dream, thought it was a dream, was thanking Christ it was just a dream, then still in the dream read the morning papers and saw it was true!

Whoa was me!

Finally woke up …. can’t believe what all those years of losing has done to me 😂

Love this club, love this team, love this admin and love this coaching staff (3 out of the four finally!)

She appears to be a very intelligent young lady, that’s what I noticed, sometimes hurdles in life aren’t what they seem.
Kudos to Brian and CH7 and the Durdins for allowing us the access!
And yes, I did well up a bit, Corey is a great brother and so obvious in his pride!♥️👍
She’s practically blind, it’s a tough break but not the end of the world when it comes to becoming well read and educated. She is a well articulated young lady and I wish her every success in whatever she pursues in her life. There are many worthwhile, fulfilling careers for those with her condition. Personally I have no doubt she will find something that rewards her both financially and spiritually.

But for now being her big brother’s no.1 fan seems more than enough 😜

Interesting stat I just looked up regarding Young.

Number of games this season with 5+ intercept marks:

4 - Ballard & Collins
3 - Gawn, Adams, Sicily, McGovern, Taylor, Young
2 - Andrews, Stewart, McCartin, Allir, Kelly, May

Not bad company to be in. Also factor in that he missed 3 games.
Not enough love for Young’s game on the weekend …. all I can say is ….

I’m not really getting this narrative we barely beat a bad side, other sides in the 8 v Essendon:

Geelong by 66
Brisbane by 22
Melbourne by 29
Freo by 48
Sydney by 58
Richmond by 32
Carlton by 26

Shows you how bad they are plus they have had a tough draw, considering we have only played 3 of the top 8.

But generally speaking while it would of been nice to win by more, it’s nothing to be unhappy with. Slightly annoyed perhaps.
We barely beat a bad side. My worry is we'll shut up shop and we'll start filling spots with senior 'depth' and more of the same. We aren't there yet.

I haven't read back to what started the conversation but the talk of Dean vs Docherty reminded me of what I was thinking about last night. We have an exciting core of players that we haven't had since our last premiership but that got me thinking about how many of our current players would make the 1995 side? I count six that would easily make it and maybe a seventh on the bench for team balance. I'm not saying that the difference in the rest is entirely talent related but the 1995 side had players that all played their roles to a tee. If we manage to pinch one with the side basically as it is now, and I'm not saying we necessarily can't, then premiership sides aren't what they used to be. I wouldn't want to risk it.

Yeah, seems they have really addressesed the correct boots to wear for the slippery, wet conditions.
The issue has improved out of sight.
It's also a confidence thing. Going to ground can mitigate damage in a player's mind. A confident player knows he/she is better off on their feet if they want to create something.

Not sure if it's already been posted, but how ******* good is this to see...

The last piece of the puzzle for Owies is to show some spite, all the really good small forwards seem to possess it in spades.
Also heavily involved in the mallee at the main break hope he keeps it up, becoming an irreplaceable cog, and a fan base favourite in no time.

Turned on the tv to see the return of Hird out of the smoke.

Hard to enjoy a game when you spend the next two hours vomiting.

Imagine how our players felt watching all the pre-game vomit and then had to play a game of footy.
It’s no wonder we were a little flat. That bulldust would make anyone nauseas.

Originally watched the game at the pub and was glad to rewatch it this morning.

Few things caught my eye after reading this thread before watching.

1) Newnes delivered the ball to marks inside 50 a heap of times. Bad bad turnover in third. But won most of his contests and was a great option running up the wing in transition. Not sure how the calls to omit him are justified.

2) that 3qt spray was absolutely necessary. Our players were slack in the fundamentals. Lazy 1 armed attempts to tackle. Fumbles. Selling teammates into trouble. Covering boundary side defensively and letting opponent turn towards the corridor. If * weren’t so sh*t we would have had a hawks/port episode mkII. They had 4 behinds from decent opportunities and a goal in the back half of the third.

3) happy to persist with Boyd. He’s a great kick and hard at it.

4) we absolutely dominated last years trade period. Lewis young in second position for steal of the trade period behind George? He is really coming into himself.

(I use the big footy app on my phone and the notifications really suck/ sorry if I don’t see your reply)

Just getting around to posting about beating *. Was a great low key win. Just what the doctor ordered. We sucked the life outta the game and concentrated on never giving them any momentum energy. Was very enjoyable watching such a flat game for their big night. Well done Vossy and team.

I thought Newman and Young were terrific down back, and would probably give them the top votes for the game. Doc and Saady also very good. Plow was solidly good i thought and Marchy and Boyd gave me zero headaches so also get a tick. Great to see Marchbank back.

H was fantastic. Such a great, multi dimensional threat now as a player. His timing when to get up to the wings for those towering marks is real good footy knowledge stuff. Charlie played pretty well and him and Harry work together beautifully.

Martin played his role well. Fish was pretty good. Owies got his 2 goals which makes his game a pass. Kicked a very important set shot. I'd like to see Durds do better next week.

I thought George was clearly our best mid. Cotts bounced back from his schooling by Sidebottom. Well done. O'Brien still gets the shakes on the G. Crippa and Walsh were just workmanlike i thought. TDK and JSOS probably lowered their colours.

Enjoyed laughing at *'s pre-game farce, and enjoyed us professionally taking the air out of their balloons and keeping our finals push well on target. Good job completed.

This from Jonathon Brown resonated with me.

Brown pointed to an instance in the third quarter where captain Patrick Cripps opted for a long, dumping kick on his non-preferred left boot rather than trying to find a link-up player with clean possession as the side has done so often in 2022.

“I think this year they’ve been a lot more measured the way they’ve moved the football. This (Cripps example) is not the way Carlton play now, swinging onto your left foot and just kicking it blindly,” he said.

I remember that effort well, just dumb football, old habits can resurface. Vossy is the man.

Crippa needs some serious practice on his left, or put it away.
As for Charlie’s effort on his left, never again please. That was to be drilled straight home with a drop punt, done plenty of the same this year already.

That’s the way I see it - All fit, I see Marchbank in for Young, McGovern in for Plowman - Talls are Weitering, Marchbank, McGovern. Smalls - Docherty, Saad - Mix of Newman, Williams, Stocker - Depth, Young, Plowman, Kemp.
Pittonet as first ruck, TDK as the resting weapon ruck. One of LOB or Newnes goes out for Cunners on the wing. Forward line of McKay, Curnow, JSOS, Martin, Durdin, Owies. Would like Honey to come in for one of the smalls - Provides that medium sized lead up forward (Owies probably goes out)
Depth soldiers across each line are the usual suspects

Reckon Young holds his position in the D-Team. Going great guns.
Z.Williams prob won’t make it back in over the incumbent’s of Doch, Saad, Newman with perhaps a taller player in Marchy, Gov or Plow being preferred &/or if Stocker can find some form and his kicking boots.

Does ZW provide an option on the wing on his return? Don’t think we’ll see much of DC this year, unfortunately. Adds a dynamic we could do with.

Williams doesn't have the tank to play wing. Given the size and length of his contract it leaves us in a tough spot if he isn't best 22. I personally think he is but as you say it may not be clear cut depending on how we balance the side.
