Obviously you don’t take him if he can’t pass a medical and you aren’t giving a top 20 pick for him but there is a chance that his talent hasn’t disappeared and in the right environment he could develop into the player people thought he might back then
Very happy with this should it happen, ie not using any top picks on him and getting him.

You're not wrong you are actually spot on.
He wasn’t drafted that high to play half forward. Petracca was tracking the same and if he’d done his ACL in his draft year like Hollands did, he wouldn’t have had the midfield minutes he did before getting drafted. Don’t forget Jones and McHenry were drafted as mids. Means squat really.

Cooked like Fogarty was in his 3rd year? Or Jones. Or Rankine. Etc etc

And history says not many elite or potentially elite back a couple of years past - come to SA. And there isn’t an SA born mid that can move the dial to bring back. So he is worth rolling the dice.
Maybe Redman can run through the guts! We need something!

Well we'll all get a look at Elijah at AFL level again because he's been named as an in for the Suns in their clash with the Saints.

That's interesting parading him for potential buyers?

If he's been as bad as people are saying, didn't sound like he would be getting a gig.
Had a decent VFL game stats wise against Frankston last week, the scoreline GCS 144 - Frankston 37

Good to see the weird Hollands obsession continues. I’ve never seen such a fuss made about a player with such limited appeal — apart from “he was a Crom supporter once”. He’s like an ex-girlfriend that wasn’t even an ex girlfriend. So many fixated on the ‘idea’ of Elijah Hollands. But the reality is that he’s just not cutting it and is likely cooked. Move on.

We are obsessing over a guy who can't make Gold Coasts first 22. Desperate times.

Not much to it, just a rehash of already known info

Adelaide has offered a long-term contract to Essendon free agent Mason Redman.
The Crows have long held interest in the Bombers defender and it is understood that a long-term deal is now on the table for the gun defender.
Redman is one of the best free agents in 2023 and the Bombers have tried to pull out all the stops to keep him in Melbourne.
The Bombers have officially lodged a contract offer for the 25-year-old as they look to keep the rebounding defender, producing a comprehensive pitch about their future that involved rucking great Simon Madden, a club legend who also wore the No. 27 jumper.

Always going to be interest from people and clubs with regards to top 10 draft picks who are currently underperforming at their current club.

Bit over the top to suggest he is not cutting it and is cooked. Won the rising star nomination less than a year ago and is still just 21 years old.

Gold Coast have so many high picks though that it is easy to fall behind in the pecking order

They have some big money experience players like Miller and Ellis as well as top picks like Rowell Anderson and Humphries keeping him out

Clearly though he has underperformed expectation

Who are your realistic targets for mids at the end of this year? There is reason to think GC may move him on even though he was a pick 7 and highly touted.
Are there any other young top 10 picks we could trade in - any experienced players that aren’t similar to what we already have that would demand a place ?
Who would you target?

Acknowledging all the negatives, I wouldn't hate giving Dyl Stephens or even Paddy Dow a look.

Dow for Sloane would be an immediate upgrade for 0 cost. At the bare minimum, he wouldn't get pantsed at centre clearances.

I want to win premierships. To do that, you need to * supermodels.

Not a high bar being better than Sloane. We don't need more Hately's. We need more Dawson's.
and fewer apostrophes...

I'm just concerned the price will be too high when trying to trade for previously high draft picks. They're going to want more than a junk pick even if their form doesn't warrant it.

Stephens that would apply to but not Paddy Dow he's been on the outer with successive coaches.

Totally out of left field and its a musing rather than anything else to see what really being bold to solve a need might look like, how would people feel about this as a possible trade offer

Out
Crows 2023 1st
Crows 2024 1st
Darcy Fogarty* (substitute for another quality young player on our list that realistically WCE would take)

In
WCE pick 1 (Harley Reid)
WCE 2024 2nd

Its going to take a big big offer to try and prise pick 1 away with how good Reid has looked. Would people be happy enough to lose a quality young player and some real draft capital to get that elite projecting young mid and still bank some 2024 points for Welsh?

I like the thinking.
But no to Fogarty.

Trading ROB (I think a late first wouldn't be out the possibility) and finding a cheap replacement packaging with those two firsts might go close.
