Absotively. We want other clubs to have that same apprehension towards drafting SA kids to what we have with Vic kids.

What apprehension? We haven't been gun shy with drafting Victorian players.

We probably should have been over the past 15 years.

And we probably have an even more miserable last 15 years. SA has kind of sucked when it's come to kids. Until pretty recently.

Really it's up to the club to generate buy-in and to keep them here.

My 2025 SOO. Much stronger than 10 years ago.

Pickett ~ Fogarty ~ Stengle
Daniel ~ Hewett ~ Phillipou

Pedlar, Wingard, Stephens, Grundy, Hayward, Aish, Schoenberg, Lukosius

I think losing the likes of Ebert, Hartlett, Westhoff, Amon, Gray and Rockliff has hurt them more than they realise. They were all a part of their 2020 push, and apart from Gray, the others were all in the 6-15th best player on the list range.
They are not far off losing some more experienced players too in Dixon, Jonas and Boak. I think they have missed their best opportunity for a flag now over the last 2 years while they had a good mix of experience and youth. Now these older guys are past their prime and on their last legs before they retire. Lycett wouldn't be that far off either. Once these guys are all gone they will have to go through another mini rebuild.

Speaking of McAsey… seeing as he is still on the payroll, do the Crows have him doing something useful in Victoria? Any suggestions?
Getting himself better?

Could at least get him to don the Claude the Crow suit when we play over there.

Yup, but honestly, it's harder to be worse than SA 2015 SOO team.

That was a miserable period.

I imagine we've paid him out and moved on. Maybe offering some extra support to make the transition as smooth as possible.

Not sure why he’d be paid out..

He chose to leave his job.. for whatever reason..

How does that equate to.. you’ve gotta pay me out.

Its not the club/AFL that broke contract.

I get what you mean but it is a case of he can hang around and get his pay or we can just pay him and move on. There may have been a negotiated settlement/may not have but we would never know. I can think of a few businesses that a person has gotten a payout for mentioning stress and wanting to leave, so it does happen. Anyways, it is all over now and we can revisit it every year when we discuss the Crows team and how we didn't win a flag in a certain era because of this or that drafting mistake.

If you really pay attention in these threads you may see the name "Pavlich" come up every 6-8 months.

Sure.. but I reacon he wouldve walked away with very little..

The Contracts would have pretty solid clauses in them to ensure the AFL doesnt get screwed..

Or a player could recieve and sign on to a 3 year multi-million dollar contract and a few days later say “my minds no longer in it so I’m walking away from footy” and demand they get paid out in full..

I'm only guessing here but the time away could have been a time away to think about it, both playing and a payout offer.

Though after Dayne Beams effort, staying away from the club and not training but picking up his full salary (which I am frankly jealous of, I'd be stoked if work said to me " we don't want you at work but we will still pay you" I'd be high fiving strangers in the street) I am not sure that we wouldn't have paid close to full totes.

What if they get injured? The answer's obvious.

What if they get sick? Physically or mentally.

We got him off the list earlier then what would have otherwise, and Fish isn't likely to be in a position to leave that money on the table.

Odds are we paid him out so he'd go now, instead of Fish waiting out his contract.
