Oh yeah he’s a straight out copycat

I'm not sure we need to stash draft picks for next year. We have a fair few out of contract next year, player we can trade and thus get draft capital for points.

We can't give up on next year when we are in finals contention.

We need to trade in experienced players this draft period if we are losing McAdam, Doedee & Himmelberg.

We already have the 2nd most inexperienced list, so we can't get more inexperienced.

But thats the point. Everyone is saying NO to every name put forward saying we need a star mid. Show me a star mid who is walking out on their club?

Im stating we should trade in Hayward to replace McAdam because he is an experienced 130 game goal kicking forward. In our forward line I think he will take his game to another level because of the space, Tex, Fogarty and Thilthorpe leave. Hell if Murphy is left out because we have Hayward, thats worth the trade alone.

Having Dawson break out in the way he did removes the option of us sacrificing next year. Next year is one where we really need to sort our s**t out and take a considerable step towards becoming a serious contender.

Im not saying sacrifice next year. That was tongue in cheek because everyone is saying NO to every single player put forward.

Saw this and thought F**k off

but in the interest of torture..I felt duty bound to post this in case anyone was prepared to be a self mortifier

Ahh Trade Radio. A station that at some stage says every player is rumoured to be traded somewhere and they then spend the next few hours completing playstation trades. Basically they may as well have called it bigfooty radio.

He replaces McAdam.
Murphy played with McAdam.
Hayward will also.

Everyone?

I have no issue making a strong play for a star midfielder... but it's a very long shot to get someone who is under contract

Agree we should be looking at smart trades in to provide experience to the squad. Don't have to be guns, but best 22 or useful depth.

He's in Brad Crouch territory now. Had so many injuries he'll go anywhere he has to to get a long term deal.

Unfortunately he is probably being scared by his manager. He could stay and fight, take our deal and add trigger clauses re performance for an extension, but his manager is probably in his ear saying if he gets another long term injury he may not get another deal. I probably dont blame him for looking for some security in that aspect.

Hayward is coming to Adelaide "Oh no, there goes pick 9...he's contracted" Seriously, it has been established on this board he is no more productive than a Lachlan Murphy. Hayward costing us a mid to late second is about par. They keep him one more year it will be an end of second beginning of third.

Unfortunately it appears it does exist, although haven’t read through all the Rules (or the other determinations that the AFL can make re this).

See clause 9.7 below and https://resources.afl.com.au/afl/do...nded-AFL-Rules-effective-28-February-2023.pdf

My understanding is the mischief it sought to stop was a club not wanting to blow a high pick in matching a bid, so it trades it out, then matches, then trades that pick back in again, paying the holding club for the privilege.

On that basis, it has no place applying in trading a pick back the following year, but seems unambiguous!

What does 9.6 mean?

Does it mean we can claim to be involved in a trade in which we neither gave away, nor received anything from two other clubs who are trading with us? And that counts as a 3 way?

Murphy played with McAdam.
Hayward will also.
Hayward plays higher up the ground than McAdam, in a similar way to Murphy, but better.
If anything we will mix up the rest and Murphy shouldn't be the type to pick to be close to goals.

E.g.

HF: Hayward ~ Walker ~ Rachele
FF: Chol ~ Fogarty ~ Rankine

Thilthorpe, Keays and Pedlar swapping through.

Will Hayward didn’t cost pick 9 in his draft year, or even close.

He’s not going to cost anything crazy.

I'm not sure we can afford to, if we just delisted 4 blokes, and we are trading another 4, we are going to have to spend the picks at the draft!

The dudes been in Sydney's best 22 for a few years. He isn't a fringe player. So trading for him is smart if we can get him for the lowest cost. I'd probably even try and just trade for Hayward outside of the McAdam deal. probably would get him for a 2nd rounder if swans are desperate to clear cap space.

It means that we could trade McAdam to Melbourne, Grundy goes to Sydney and we get Hayward and it would be a valid trade even though we didn't get anything from Melbourne.

Never said he was fringe!

Just saying we need to get in a few players who are either best 22 or fringe.

If we swapped Hayward for McAdam & Berg for Choi, it would be a good start. Then just need to bring someone in for Doedee, but not necessarily a like for like.

I am warming to Hayward as he will help us structurally. He helps us because if he is a threat up forward, it means Rankine, Pedlar and Rachele get to spend more time in the midfield and that makes us better

I would have no issue with Hayward, so long as we don't pay a 1st rounder for him.

Didn't have hid best yet, so he perhaps he could do with a change of scenery.

Would be a handy player for us.

Chol would be a great get. He shows a lot at AFL level.

The real unknown is how highly the players in this years draft expected to be around our picks are rated by the crows and if they prefer to draft and develop those players instead of trading for existing talent. Or if we will trade for next years first rounders.

Say we trade with Melb and Syd. We can send a pick to Melb, they can send a player to Syd, and Syd can send a player to us.

We don’t have to send something to both clubs, nor do Melb or Syd.

Edit: MarcusP2 said it better

I’m not sure Hayward is worth pick 23 AND McAdam.
hayward this year stats is murphy have a look

its straight swap three way hayward grundy mcadam or its nothing maybe throw in a late pick but hayward has been rubbish this year
