Not sure I agree. I would love to think the idea behind our interest is to free up both Rachele and Pedlar to move through the midfield more. Losing McAdam, given his potential and x factor is a big loss. Hayward, while not a like for like, does help mitigate this loss.

The thing is both of those players are too low in importance in our forward line that you don't need to do anything extra to cover them. It's not like you're taking Rankine out of the forward line who is the line leader and drawing a main defender. One of the easiest solutions in that regard would be to use Thilthorpe more as a third tall, instead of as the after thought we used him as this year (second lowest TOG% out of our regulars).

The biggest thing McAdam offered was coverage if we lost Rankine. Beyond that though, he's another goal a game forward in a forward line flushed with them.

Can play McAdam's role inside 50 and can play Murphy's role outside 50 so neither players are needed anymore.......

That's not how football works.

Some serious underrating of Hayward on here.

We often complain about having players who try hard but just don't have the skill.

Hayward absolutely has an elite skills set. Hoping we can use him in a different way to allow him to use it. He has an elite kick and could easily be a 40+ goal a year forward for us.
Completely agree. Rate him really highly. If there's any truth to it then it will be an awesome get for us.

Yeah, getting better players to complete with your current players to improve your list isn't how football works. Hayward hasn't been playing as a forward this year like he previously did, he has been playing how Murphy has been used but is a much much much better ball user and actually kick goals when they come instead of stuffing them up like Murphy. And he can play as a leaping medium forward like McAdam, preferably he takes Murphy's role and develop Cook in the forward line.

yeah.. but that play gets fraught with danger if Tyler Welsh comes out next season with his back 100% fixed and fit and firing and he absolutely dominates all his fellow draftess..

he’s already considered as top 5 potential..

we end up holding picks that if we cant use to climb up the ladder (which is near impossible if he becomes a top 3 prospect) we have to push into 2025.. kicking the can even further down the road.

even the most gun draftee mids take 3-4 years to really start firing on all cylinders. We cannot wait that long.

We can’t get a top midfielder if none are available, that’s the issue. You can’t win a flag without one and I they say next year is full of quality midfielders. I don’t think Welsh will be too 5, think closer to 10, plus he hasn’t been able to stay on the park long enough.
Typical Adelaide, wrong draft for needs.

Most gun midfielder play in the first year and will

We added Dawson as a rebounding half back … he is now our captain and one of the best mids in the competition.

Matt Crouch stepping back up is a huge win.

I still believe that we need to upgrade our bottom 6 players in the 22 … that should mainly happen from within our young players like Cook / Nankervis / Taylor / Berry / Dowling - maybe add a couple of experienced upgrades like Choi / Hayward in the mid/upper-range of our list … we’ll be pretty decent next year.

Add a top 5 in Welsh and another Michalanney at the end of 2024 …looking like a decent trajectory to me.

As I said, I don’t think the club will do it but of all our tall defenders I believe his skill set best suits being tried forward. He has been used there and in ruck due to injury with us already, he actually is very fast off the mark and high points the ball well. He has clean hands that he doesn’t get to show much as he is always spoiling and he can kick very well for a key back. He also gets caught under the ball a lot for a key back because he naturally attacks the contest.

it’s definately left field and not relevant really to the rest of the my proposed list changes but I would love to see it tried over pre season. The other left field one I would love is Mitch Hinge tried in the middle. He came to us like Dawson as a wing half back but has better speed than Dawson and probably a bit more strength. Dawson has amazing poise and awareness but they are both good in traffic and have great kicks. Would be ironic if the extra A grade mid we are looking for is already in the team.

i don't think Hinge can replicate the intensity that Dawson shows at the contest. But it's worth a try for a month.
