Yep, Harry Morrison is UFA but if he leaves we get no compo if battle is coming in. So prefer he is traded out. Or Sam Butler may want to play with his bro at Saints and he is behind quite a few in his preferred role.

So your 2nd pick or F2 should do fine.

PS : prefer to keep Harry as depth but I suspect he will look around. In that case, prefer a trade with Saints if we are not able to keep him.

I like Battle and think he's a good player but geez 850k seems steep anyway even with the cap increase.

With the upcoming cap increases and length of the deal - $850-900k is bang on what Battle is worth.

The AFL are a joke so we should absolutely be doing a handshake deal. We give 900k for battle so you get pick 7. We give you Jai Serong who’s a good developing 3rd tall back who won’t get a game with battle and Barrass coming in for your r2 and a swap in our favour when he’s more like a r3 pick. Everyone including the players win.

We were dancing in the rain when Buddy left and we got pick 19 for him. It was fair tho because we had just been gifted a premiership.

What concept is that? Everybody knows Harry is a UFA. As MULTIPLE people have told you - free agent does not equal untradable and players can opt not to take up their free agent status.

Wonder if the AFL would veto something like that. They would've already seen our initial offer and if we all of a sudden ridiculously up it just to trigger band 1 and then all of a sudden there's also a trade between Hawthorn + the Saints then that would surely set off alarm bells. I mean it's not like we're Geelong where we can get away with thing shiesty stuff

So, in theory, they could offer him an inflated contract and force ours to be similar.

The only power Stkilda have is to persuade him to stay, so them putting in a good contract offer would cause us to raise it. However he can leave for less money if he wants to.

I totally agree but **** i hate that clubs are legit using free agency to rort ridiculous compensations. If they think Battle is worth 900k they would have offered it already, trying to offer just enough to get other clubs to outbid and cause these massively over the top compensation picks is so stupid.

Free agency exists for the players to extract maximum value for themselves.

Battle through his hard work and excellent performance has received great offers that he deserves. It's free market, if Stkilda and Hawthorn are both prepared to offer big money to get his signature than that is exactly what he's worth.

Prices are slightly inflated because clubs are willing to pay more for a free agent as the know a similar skilled player would cost them a hefty draft hand of player.

Saints rightly would rather overpay battle to stay than accept a late 20s pick.
