Why is he not a mid?
I have watched him carefully pre seasons and in game. His position, awareness and vision aren't there to be a great midfielder. It doesn't come naturally to him but when he can see the ball in front of him at either end of the ground he is a real weapon. He doesn't need to be a mid to have a real impact for us him being able to play anywhere forward or back is as big a weapon as we need. We will get a mid with the qualities that we need by the usual ways of draft, trade and free agency

We don't need him in the midfield.

We (and he) would be better served having the ball dished out to him, hopefully in a few metres of space, and not having him trying to win it himself.

IMO free-wheeling up and down the ground from the HFF would be his most dangerous position.

One of the comment on that twitter feed suggests if we finish higher on the ladder than what wea re now that we'll have to give up our 2024 1st + 2025 1st 😂
The same Eagles supporters who want us to give up 2 firsts or at least a first and a second for Barrass only want to give up a second and a pick swap of firsts with crows (a one spot drop) for Curtin or our first if they got it for Barrass.

He could have a real impact as a CBA midfielder, as there is more space there. Similar to how clubs start impact players in there, then move them forward - eg. Pickett, Ryan, Stringer, Rayner, Bolton, etc.

But I think he'd struggle a bit more having to play midfielder in general during around the ground ball-ups and throw-in situations. The space will be clogged up.

Adelaide coach Mathew Nicks met with Gold Coasts Jack Lukosius last week in a bid to lure him home next year. Doesn't look likely that we have any chance to convince him to come to the hawks.

Thats a fairly large assumption

And Weddle will be training in the midfield next year

Was going to happen if we acquired Mckay
I'd say it is a larger assumption to say that a player who has only attended a centre bounce this season as a ruck is going to be training as a midfielder next year.

Why would we wait on getting him centre bounce minutes if it was the goal for him in the future?

So with Tim English on the cusp of signing a 5 year extension to stay with the Bulldogs this could be an opportunity for Ned Reeves to get to a club where there's a more realistic chance of senior footy. It would leave us thin in ruck stocks so we would have to look at brining in an ample back up.

We could work big Ned into the Barrass trade if he was willing to move for better opportunities.
