Far out - he’s a clone of his dad! Tyler probably with a yard of extra pace though.
Scott was quite quick in his younger days ....probably a bit slower once he got to the Bulldogs

... and I wouldn't bet on Smith retiring (or being delisted) either. That's pure wishful thinking and/or BF groupthink.
Hasn't he hit his rumoured trigger for another year...

Burgess will be fine as back up

I do think we wont do too many deep cuts - I think it depends on who says yes to coming here

I think Gollant might get squeezed out
Gollant might want out too for new opportunities.

Contracted until end of 2024

Going to be very interesting to see what happens with McHenry. I think he will find another opportunity at AFL level if we let him walk.

Obviously not rated highly by Nicks and Co as he has played 20 games since rd 2023 with 10 of them being sub.

I think he is an acceptable 20th-22nd best 22 player on a finals team, but we just have too many of his type - Murphy, Hamill, Parnell, McHenry, Jones, Berry, etc.

Himmelberg will walk as a free agent to GWS.

We should be able to find a trade home for McHenry (fingers crossed) rather than delist but wouldn’t expect anything more than late round fodder for f/s points.

Can’t see Gollant attracting much attention.

I don't like RT as a ruck purely because of the physical punishment they take. He's already had a couple of knee issues. We've got too much invested in him to risk him there as anything more than a pinch hitter. Using RT as a ruck is like taking a Rolls Royce into a demolition derby - even if you win, it's not worth the damage.
Rolls Royce is a stretch. Maybe a BMW, expensive and drove beautifully first time you took it out. Since then has broken down a bit and underperformed but hoping the work and modifications make it the elite model you thought you were getting.

You’d hope if RT and Turray are in the same side one of them is ruck. It’s been over 20 years since Dean Cox started playing as an extra midfielder, not sure why we’re still playing lumberjacks who can’t contribute as a ball player.

RT always said he wanted to play as a mid.

We don't want to waste RT in the Ruck. He is a contested marking beast. He needs to be a forward.

How good is Dyson Sharp and is he a player we should be looking to bring in the 2025 draft? i.e. is he JHF/Rankine/Rozee level? Should we try and trade this year to North or Richmond for their 2025 1st to give us the best chance?
Unlikely we’d trade out of this year’s first round as it’s looking like a very strong draft for high end mids - which we obviously need badly. I like the thinking but might be a tough get going by his game against the Allies, looks like he’ll be right at the pointy end next year.

He's a strange player

I'd wager a large percentage of his contested marks are between the arcs. Hasn't quite worked out how to be effective as a deep forward yet.

Seems to enjoy the freedom of a roaming forward role or stints on ball

I'm not sure we quite know how to best use him either

Has the ability to be but definitely not there yet. Averages 3 marks a game thus far. Gets his hands on a lot of balls but actually clunking them seems to be dependent on his confidence levels. Hopefully his summer weights regime gives him the confidence he needs and he can stop playing like a schoolboy, admonishing himself and throwing his head back in disgust when he gets out marked. He’s a full grown man now and needs to start playing like one.

Assuming he does get there, wouldn’t be the worst to have that marking ability around the ground, given our best contested mark outside defence is currently a mid (Dawson).

I think one of Hamill/McHenry stays, and one departs. If Ned stays, he goes to the rookie list

I can’t see Gollant sticking around with Welsh coming in

Bond is a weird one, he probably goes at this point but maybe hasn’t received a whole lot of opportunity

So with Sloane and EH, that’ll be 5 senior list spots to fill. Maybe three draft picks, and two players as FA/trade ins?

Keeping Smith ahead of Hamill would be typical us. Smith is cooked, Hamill is solid depth. If Smith hits his trigger, I'd just pay him out and delist him. Obviously, I'd offer him the opportunity to retire first, but there's no way I'd blow a spot on him in 2025.

Tex is a wait and see, Smith pay out the 2025 contract year this year and force retirement. Cook extend but everyone else on your list is up for grabs. Except Hamill is required as small/medium depth. Smith done, Milera risky and Parnell gone, we don't bat deep for small defenders.

Tom lynch type role should be his role.

Yeah I’d keep Hamill over Bond on what they’ve shown this year, it’s harsh on bond who hasn’t had much of a go in his preferred position, but it looks like the drafted him to be developed as a small defender first and he hasn’t done a lot in the games he’s played so far.

Yeah I think this is the issue.

Just feel he is really wasted in the ruck and his #1 concern as a junior was his durability.

We need to play him to his strengths. He is a phenomenal mark of the footy IMO. This is his #1 strength and not one that can replicated. He has long arms, and is great on the lead but also has great physicality - which will only get better. He is also a pretty good kick for goal.

Having Thilthorpe get 10 possessions inside 50 and across half forward is much better than him getting 20 as a roaming ruck man.

He is also a 200cm+ player who is yet to reach 50 games or his 22nd Birthday.

By no means is he a finished product and in truth, injury permitting, will hit his best form from around 2026 onwards IMO.

What he has shown is glimpses.

Oh I agree, but we know how we usually operate

Hamill has been better this year than I expected, considering how bad he was in the past.

It's very this board to be talking him up as staying over Smith, though.

We just got whip the whipping boys.
