It’s borderline unwatchable right now, except the odd game or quarter. I’m watching the fox footy guys highlighting the hawks poor score but the pies were sh*t too except for first quarter.

This year will be a mulligan for obvious reasons, but there is no way I’m watching that sh*t multiple times a weekend if that’s what we’re going to have from now on.

Agree, embarrassing effort mainly by my mob. About 10 minutes of decent footy all night, mostly in the 1st qtr, before both teams deployed their defensive zones and also avoided risky kicks/turnovers in the corridor...

Wingard is useless

That is why Port got rid of him ..

he was good when he concentrated on Football .. but then he went off football and thinks concentrates about other things ...

he is now only going through the motions

That was so bad I actually started to laugh at just how bad we played, how average the Pies were in a 30+ point win AND how boring the game was.

Utter trash. I can't believe I'm saying this but the AFL needs to find a way to change the rules to allow for a more free-flowing game. Also the Hawks need to just accept the rebuild, we have a good core 10 for the next 8 years, time to junk the rest over the next two years.

I'm watching the EPL more than the AFL and Brighton - one of the most defensive sides in the league - look more exciting in attack than half the AFL teams.

some of the worst commentary i have heard...lauding the Pies prospects and writing the Hawks obits...then they explained they were now separated by 2 points on the ladder. 2 POINTS.

you literally have to be brain-dead to get a job as a commentator, or engage with their nonsense.
And Bruce talking up next week's "Top 4 clash" between Geelong and Collingwood because Pies are in 4th spot after only 2 of the 9 games in the current round have been played. It's possible albeit unlikely Collingwood won't even be in the top 8 by Sunday night!
!

The way I see it.. there are multiple factors at play as to why AFL is so garbage right now -

1. Shorter quarters. Players like Dangerfield have cried to get this for years. Now they have it, and look at what it brings... low scoring garbage. Why? The good strong teams in a normal game of footy usually score pretty big in red time - Richmond and West Coast (last 2 premiers) are good examples of this. They are big, strong bodies with a good system, and they wear down younger teams like Gold Coast for example. What happens with short quarters? The younger teams like Gold Coast have the energy to hang with quality sides until the end. Those stronger sides just do not have that advantage of the physical and psychological game of endurance
2. No crowds. Teams are not getting pumped up by a run. Collingwood is a good example tonight... Got that fast start but then just stopped and went as bad as Hawthorn for the remainder of the game. There is lack of motivation from the players.
3. Interchange (also effected by the short quarters). Having a 4 man interchange in a normal game is bad enough. But having a 4 man interchange with short quarters is a disaster. Everyone is fresh for the entire game, and can run up and down the ground all night without breaking a sweat. Geelong a perfect example - lose 2 players early, and still run over the top of Brisbane like a piece of cake. In a normal length game, Geelong wouldn't have had that sort of energy to run out the game like that. This also translate into hugely defensive games, as it allows a massive amount of players to get back to defense fast. So the game is literally a rolling game of defense vs defense.

To fix it in the short term -

2 players on the interchange for each side
cap interchanges lower

This will prevent this huge rolling scrum running up and down. Coaches say "but players will get more injuries". Well that responsibility falls with you coach.. If you play them in their positions and stop the full field run every 2 minutes, then those injuries won't occur.

But no.. Hardwick wants 6 or 8 interchanges.. which will just make things even worse. We might start getting 0 - 0 games.

Really liked the look of Quaynor and Bosenavalugi cannot believe they have not played more, i wonder what could be holding them
back and what their nicknames are. :moustache:
It's probably playing instinctive football and moving the ball quickly and directly towards their own team's goal that's held them back. Not to fret, I'm sure that stuff can be coached out of them.

Horrible game of football between 2 middle of the road teams.

If Clarkson and Buckley are seen as two of the better coaches in the league then our great game is in awful trouble.
This season Hardwick drew with Buckley and got spanked by Clarkson. Last year, though I'm sure the game wasn't in trouble , or was your flag tainted??

it's like Dimma doesn't understand how his teams have won in recent years..he wants even shorter games and more players?...nuts.
