North v Freo round 2 last year

Dan Howe kicks it out of bounds deliberately, but siren sounds before it goes out. Umpires didn’t have a chance to blow their whistles as it was all fairly immediate, split second kinda stuff but they paid it as no free because play stopped when the siren went, and ball was still in play then.

That’s how they judge it now. When the siren went.

If that’s the case surely the goal gets cancelled at half time as the siren clearly sounds before it hits the boot
Doesn't matter does it ? The quarter is over when the umpire blows the whistle and raises one hand above their head? So if the siren sounds, the umpire hears it immediately but between bringing the whistle to his lips, the boot strikes the ball, the whistle sounds but game still on whilst the ball is in the air ??? Like to hear the offical statement from the AFL.

It's always been based on when the umps blow the whistle and not the siren sound to mark the end of the quarter. It was kicked before the umpires blew their whistle so its a goal. It's been that way forever.
Nope, this is a myth.

It’s always been when the ump hears the siren - he just has to blow the whistle to signal that he has.

So basically Lachie Neale is faster than the speed of sound. Goal allowed 😄
