Review Cats drown Hawks by 36 points in Tommas 350

Was stoked with Parfitt as a long time fan of his, and really loved that we really got to see the future of the midfield in the final term with Conway, De Koning, Bruhn, Bowes, Clark and Parfitt.

All three games have tried to give me heart attacks, but I would have taken 3-0 at 130% in a heartbeat five weeks ago.

Noticed a Hawks player gave the "shoosh" symbol in the 2nd quarter - when he'd kicked a goal to get them back within 30 points.

Cracked up laughing though when a Hawks player was getting into Zach Guthrie, and Oisin Mullin wandered over and bumped him and sent him sprawling.
I noticed that, too! I was thinking to myself, "he didn't just... shoosh the crowd, did he?" 😂🙄

This was my highlight of the game.

Nick Watson is my new least favourite player, has such a mouth on him for a kid with 0 wins and 2 goals 7 from 12 shots.
I think without doubt the Hawks small forward line is the most annoying in the competition - easy to not like. (With Brust being the exception to the rule). I counted a dozen+ attempts to get a high free and lots of niggles and frankly being smart a*** to out players - when they have done nothing!!

Hmm for next week coming off a physical game and a 5 day break i could see us resting Hawkins and either going smaller or bringing Neale.

The other obvious change would be Stanley for Conway and then bring Conway back in for the week after against North.
They will have Mannagh and Tuohy available and fresh, if some of the mids pull up sore.

Yeah i was just naming the obvious outs we could end up changing 2 or 3 more depending on how others pull up.

I could very easily see us rest Clark next week and bring Mannagh back in as a replacement whilst also bringing in Tuohy for Mullin.

Guthrie may never get back to where he was tbh
That may sadly be true. I hope everyone doesn't get into this cult of "just wait til Guthrie gets back". If he gets back with fitness and some form then I'll contemplate him being in the side.
That said, boxes ticked, he upgrades whatever lineup we have.

It'll be interesting, I could see us managing a few both this week and next against Norf.

Although they look like a joke right now, we'll want to have a fit and firing squad going to the Gabba.

Actually I kind of think it's worse if you're tall (because the ball comes in so slowly) - but it's usually bad for forwards in general.

That said, he was the quietest of all seven of them. Glad he had a really good one today.
Stengle has 3 goals, 4 goal assists and 17 score involvements from the 3 games so far.

He's up a couple of disposals and half a tackle per game compared to 2023.

It's been a good start for Tyson.

Played well for 2 quarters badly for 1. Did enough but not exactly convincing. Parfitt continues his good form. Stengle getting some form back. Jack Henry had another game he'd like to forget. He got easily pushed aside multiple times giving up goals. Another time he just wrestled with his opponent leaving another Hawthorn player to take an uncontested mark right in front of him. Then he looked around at other players as though there was nothing he could do. Really poor effort.
Henry was excellent when the ball hit the deck and made some great running rebounds but I agree that defensively as it went on he was shaky.

I'm not too harsh on that but given how people were absolutely laying into a younger KPD (SDK) who actually improved as the game went on, it bares mentioning.

Similarly, the warmest AFL player I think I’ve ever met is James Sicily. A terrific guy.
I think many pro athletes are, possibly because they understand they are blessed. Though some could be absolute early on until the realities of life start to soak in.
When I was in high school, we had an NFL journeyman move in next door. The few times I met him he was a complete gentle giant. He was running back, but just massively chiseled, but soft-spoken and well spoken. IIRC wife was high school sweetheart or something, too, not some groupie or floozy. Sometimes its the WAG that's the problem. Larry Bird's woman was pretty stuck up, while Robert Parish's was an absolute firecracker. :thumbsu:

I don't agree that Meek won the ruck duel. Meek dominated against SDK and won against Blitz but I thought by eye, not looking at numbers, Conway got clean taps to advantage and hood ground level involvement was good.

He tired out, and I would rest the big tyrannosaur rather than fly him to Adelaide. But I thought he won for his time on ground
Overall it was pretty close, depending on how harshly you mark down a kid needing significant time off ground compared to their 28 year old.

11 disposals, 3 tackles, 5 marks, a goal, some pretty good taps and general knock ons/1%ers around the scrimmages - big tick I'd say.

I feel like we still haven't seen the complete arrival of Max Holmes. This kid is going to cast off the shackles some day soon.
His main fault so far has been some erratic ball use. Otherwise easily could've had coaches votes each game.

Is giving us plenty of drive but I agree, his ceiling is still a decent chunk higher.

Might have something to do with the fact that he still only got 63% game time.

Would probably be BOG over Worpel if he got a full game.
The 5 day break and needing to manage minutes knowing that Dangerfield will still be missing affected us. If we put all of our eggs into this games basket we would've put the foot down and won by over 10 goals.

If the midfield are fresh and competitive vs Bulldogs then it was worth it. That's a daunting challenge though. We will need dominance in defence and up forward to win.

Worpel is right in the sweet meat of his career... 25+ and 100 games plus. Bruhn is still 20-40 games shy of being ready to be a best mid in a side role. He should have 3 to 4 ahead of him, shouldering the weight...and yet at times ..he is playing above that. Happy with Bruhn and Clarks efforts today but they will be inconsistent for the next couple of years. Special effort of Parfit today. Its game like today that make young wonder why at his age he is not a lock. Maybe conditions suited him
Warhorsey will stick to the "Bruhn is terrible" narrative for as long as possible.

27 disposals, 9 clearances, 5 tackles and 6 score involvements from 63% game time as a 22 year old beginning his second season as a full time midfielder.

Verdict: "not good enough".

Of course.
