Apart from his kick from out of bounds that never actually came into the field of play and ended up in the crowd, I don't remember any others from him this week.
There was a hack kick on the wing that went straight to the Pies. This kick was more disappointing because it's reminiscent of a few of his kicks lately where he has taken possession under no pressure, assumed he's under pressure and thrown it on the boot without looking upfield. It could be a lack of communication from others.

The kick OOTF is way out of character, he's normally a great kick from behind the mark so that doesn't bother me too much, the other situation needs work though. If you're going to boot the ball for no good reason without looking, it can't be travelling 30m with top spin. It needs to travel 55m with as much air time as possible.

If he had have looked, seen no options and then the top spin kick is a viable option to try get an odd bounce right in front of the loose man to get a spillage.

TLDR; In isolation not too bad, but a trend of his over the past month.

Shep had been providing a heap of run the past 5 or 6 weeks, I swear his disposal numbers were going up.

Schofield will need to mimic this, we can't have him as a complete lockdown because I can't imagine Barrass or Gov running hard from behind.

Not a huge difference. Averaged 15.8 disposals over the first 15 rounds and 19.1 disposals over the next seven.

I thought Venebles wasnt bad in the last qtr. Tackled well and put pressure on. Unlucky deliberate at one point. He could just be about to have his breakout games coz he gets less attention.

He can be dangerous.

For all their other current shortcomings, you just have to love how well Venables and Duggan tackle.

They look like they’ve had NN training them. They drive them in to the ground through the side of the body.

Very impressive and good signs for the future
Great call. I hate duggan’s disposal as much as the rest but at the ground it is very noticable that he defends, spoils and tackles like a man possessed. I hope we keep him as small defender long term as he is very reliable one on one, don’t think his disposal is good enough to become an elite mid.

As for venables, his pressure in the forward half is immense and is why he hasn’t been dropped since returning. How good was his 1 hand pick up and kick to JK in the third that finally got us a goal late in the qtr. He could certainly improve his disposal output but he gives us so much X factor up fwd already

I think we should use DV as a run with player next year. Frees up a spot in the forward line, and allows DV to learn how to find the ball and put his tackling to good use.

The upside on Venables, Duggan, Ryan, Rioli, Cole etc is how good they'll be next season after
gaining finals experience...and who knows, any of those could exceed in the next 1-2 games?

Also we need Sam Mitchell to continue splashing gatorade in players faces at 3/4 time!!
Tony Jones, Vic journo, is another to say a GF will be wasted on WCE, they'll fall flat like 2015!!!??

Melb will know that they have played next week when the unsociable Hawks go do or die ..Could be a bruising encounter..

From what I saw of them after quarter time on Friday Hawthorn don't have any unsociable players left. Other than Sissy who is a want to be tough guy, their past hard guys ( Mitchell, Lewis, Hodge etc..) are elsewhere or retired.

I re-watched the game and im happy for DV to stay.

That kick to JK on the left was pure class as he not only wrong footed his man but by going on his left, he was able to make the right decsion and hit up JK.

Think schoey cut down heaps last preseason and im quite confident on him being able to provide us run and carry like he did in 2012/13. We just need to get the ball in his hands a bit more. He would be ideal for Petracca or Gunston.

I’ve always said don’t say something to someone else that they can google

Google I reckon is predicting Shep out Schofield in

Does anyone seriously think it will go another way .....Schofield was desperately unlucky to miss in his own right from last weeks team

Cole will play the Shep role ......

Schofield plays in coles former role ....one soldier down ...one gets a call up ...pass the gun sir where’s the trenches ....I’m in

Duggan wont be dropped at this point in the season. That said, he absolutely needs the acid put on him this week.

He's not offering a huge amount defensively, and his kicking varies from ok to an out and out liability. That kick in he put straight on the full in the last quarter could have changed the game.

Guys like Sheed and Jetta who we roast often have stepped up the last couple of weeks. Masten has been ok and playing his role. Hell, even though Venebles didn't get a lot of the ball he applied lots of defensive pressure and laid 7 tackles.

Whilst i wouldnt exactly be tossing Duggan under the bus if i was Simpson, he needs to offer more, its been way too long between him having a good game. I think all that needs be said that if we get up in the preliminary final, that his spot in the best 22 isn't an absolute guarantee.

Lets hope the kid can put in a big game in a fortnight.

He’s how old ....20.....maybe 21.....go easy champ .....
