Everybody made a few errors....
Venners, Duggan, stay of course.
Schoey in...(experience)

I don’t think we lose that much with Schofield replacing Shep .....Shep is awesome don’t get me wrong but our defense held up well without him against pies nimble forward line

Don’t know about everyone else but I think I’d rather play Richmond if we made the grand final rather than Collingwood if they are able to knock of GWS and then Richmond. I mean like I said provided the fact we get there ! Playing Melbourne at home would be another tight game and I don’t like the fact they know how to win here either.

I honestly expected it from him though ! I knew he wouldn’t come out guns blazing after so many weeks off ! I might be wrong but was that the first time all year that we have had Rioli, Ryan, JK, JD and Lecra all together ?

Sure was ...and it worked

In many ways lecras is decoy ....he did two really good things late ,,.two goal assists

I noticed Saturday night that Mihocek got a lot of seperation from Barrass on the lead, so Schofield will be a handy in, has the pace to defend a bit better on the quicker talls

Third all-time in goals, All-Australian, club champion, holds the goalscoring record at a ground that's hosted nearly 900 games.

What a spud.

This is what happens when players stay on too long instead of retiring they just get judged on a few months of footy by guys like patfooty ..

I’m happy to see him play in all the finals game though

Shep for Schofield does make sense as the one change - he will allow us to free Gov or Barass or Hurn to intercept.

I wouldn’t completely discount Nelson coming in, especially if the dees win - he’s tough defensively & would back him in 1v1 over the mediums that Melbourne have.

Otherwise I wouldn’t make any changes.

DV struggled with the pace with ball in hand (very reminiscent of Shuey, actually) but his tackling pressure was very good and I think we are a better forward line with him in there.

Masten didn’t get much of it but was sent back to HB which obviously we would want to avoid. His gut run is important to us & I don’t think anyone else can replicate that right now.

Lecca stays in for mine, he takes a medium defender away from Ryan & Rioli and also can play in the middle in spurts.

So, TL;DR - one change only.

In: Schofield
Out: Shep

I can't see Ah Chee with that demonic will to chase an opponent streaming out the back half for 50m, seems the type of player who hasn't quite got that desire to go for massive runs with no reward.

I was so impressed with Venables closing speed in the forward 50 to try help us lock the ball in.

He won't be so slow with the ball in hand in the future, I'm sure he and Shuey will roll the tape and see what went wrong offensively, although some of the calls were BS.

Funny how Venables plays like a Richmond small forward and has similar stats and people want him out. He stays.

Assuming Sheppard is out, then is our best balance with Nelson or Schofield? Both would do the job and Nelson did well for EP in the elimination final. Both turnover by foot more than Sheppard but are more secure by hand pass than Sheppard. We are weaker but I’d still back in our system.

What about Watson - can we handle his turnover potential?

Compared to last time we played Melbourne, we had no JK and 2 talls in defender. Ah Chee played v Dees. Question is will JK and Schofield/Nelson be 3 goals better than Ah Chee and Sheppard?

Arrogance says yes.

Schofield must come in. Versatile enough to play on Weidemann or McDonald or even someone like Melksham.

Duggan wont be dropped at this point in the season. That said, he absolutely needs the acid put on him this week.

He's not offering a huge amount defensively, and his kicking varies from ok to an out and out liability. That kick in he put straight on the full in the last quarter could have changed the game.

Guys like Sheed and Jetta who we roast often have stepped up the last couple of weeks. Masten has been ok and playing his role. Hell, even though Venebles didn't get a lot of the ball he applied lots of defensive pressure and laid 7 tackles.

Whilst i wouldnt exactly be tossing Duggan under the bus if i was Simpson, he needs to offer more, its been way too long between him having a good game. I think all that needs be said that if we get up in the preliminary final, that his spot in the best 22 isn't an absolute guarantee.

Lets hope the kid can put in a big game in a fortnight.

Potential match-ups for the Prelims.

Dees

FB: Cole Barrass Nelson/Schofield
FF: Neal-Bullen Weideman Hannan (189cm)

HB: Jetta McGovern Hurn
HF: Spargo McDonald Melksham

Hawks

FB: Jetta Barrass Cole
FF: Puopolo Ceglar Breust

HB: Hurn McGovern Nelson/Schofield
HF: Burgoyne Roughead Gunston (193cm)

So I think it's ok to play Schofield in the prelim from a height perspective. Nelson would also be fine from a height perspective, but he isn't as good at footy as Schoey.

But then if we face the Tiges in the GF we would be too tall with Schoey. To the point where playing Nelson would be better even though he isn't as good at footy.

And I'm guessing that we wouldn't want to bring Nelson in just for the GF.

An interesting decision ahead for the MC. If they think Shep could get up (looks unlikely) then it makes it a bit simpler.

Tiges

FB: Cole Barrass Nelson/Schofield
FF: Rioli Caddy Castagna

HB: Jetta McGovern Hurn
