Defied physics.
If you kick a longish-range checkside that spins around a horizontal axis (like douglas did), it will drift back the other way on the downward part of the arc. This is like an off spinner's drift in cricket

if you kick it so it spins around a vertical axis (like a helicopter) it should keep drifting the same way for the full arc.

Nicks has shown his hand multiple times on selections, so will be Schoey in as the sub and Sholl in for Butts.

He's had zero interest in trying new guys this year, that'll only be reinforced even harder in a must win game.

i wouldn't rule out Parnell for butts and swapping ned and Sholl back. Parnell is next backman in and that straight swap avoids any other other role changes. Not the time of the year to be pissing around with the continuity credits that we've been building since our first probables v possibles.

I can see no unforced changes this week the effort McAdam puts in it wouldn't surprise me if he had checked out already. No way Nicks let's that level of effort / discipline into this side and he is hardly destroying it which you need to do to earn a place. Not even in the squad this week...

Shol has his weaknesses for sure but marvel seems ideal for his running and kicking power and coming off 21 disp @ 81% I just can't see him going out.

Nank looks elite to me, can't wait to see him in the side perhaps a reshuffle to replace butts gives him a chance. Borlase was outmarked early in the SANFL on the weekend so not sure that's the answer

Below is what I said to DJ75 on Feb 1st before pre season games … also George Kramer can attest to me saying max will play plenty of games just after he was drafted , most people told me he was too skinny

Parnell has come on in leaps and bounds
Milera looks good at half back
Taylor is a gun but not fit enough
Schoenberg very fit and ready
Rankine is a freak
Himmelberg best he’s looked in match sim
Michaelanny will debut early

So keep acting like a twat all you want big boy

Ha ha ha... more just a response to my preseason hope that we selected Max over our uninspiring small defenders - Jones, Parnell, Hamill, etc

You Obvs haven’t been watching Parnell this pre season

Feels like we are doing to Nankervis what we did to Worrell.
For a long time we pushed for Worrell to get a game last year. They held off as long as possible, then he played and immediately looked at home. This year the same (had Doedee not been injured, Worrell still wouldn't be playing).
I get the feeling Nank will eventually get a game when forced, and look comfortable.

What we should be doing is getting smart about using Nank. We should target a game to rest Milera and play Nank, then rest Smith.
We absolutely should not be hoping they don't get injured and if they do just rolling Parnell into the team.

100%

We could shuffle Parnell or Sholl back in this week.

Or we could go with the raw, untried kid with big upside whose been performing well at the lower level.

Our tailing off SANFL performances are surely in part to a group of players realising that they are no chance of a call up.

I'd love us to be bold here. Borlase is more like-for-like but it doesn't seem that he's rated that highly internally

We don’t even need to rest anyone. We should drop Sholl, play Jones on a wing and play Nank across half back.

Completely agree that Nank is getting the Worrell treatment. It’s an AFC tradition. It was Doedee before Worrell.

this week is exactly why HH is the most important FA we should be targeting. Under the roof at the Dome, we either go short against Dons tall forwards or try Borlase or Keane for their first ever try out in such an important game. Not ideal.

We have been so lucky with injuries but another class KPP swingman is crucial IMO in case we end up losing a Tex or Murray/Butts for a big game, or run of games (which is inevitable at some point) over the next couple of years

Nankervis can't be too far away .....role flexible too

Of course everyone will disagree with the timing of when Nank should play .....however Worrell has commented publicly "he wasn't ready", when everyone wanted to have a peek

I still believe Nankervis will get at least a couple of games this year, to set him up for 2024

This year? When?
We are pushing for finals now, and selection is clearly around that and that only. We have our best 24 and don't vary unless injury forces it. I can't see Nank getting games unless Smith and or Milera are missing. Even then we are more likely to push Jones back and play Sholl.

Massive issue.
Very little incentive for the SANFL guys when it's clear they aren't in the best 24 and have no chance of being selected. You can almost predict the SANFL performance from the team selections.
You have to keep rotating the team to keep the players from the whole squad pushing. It keeps the pressure on those in the top team.

Gollant’s SANFL form in recent weeks has been poor..

spends far too much time playing the tough guy role.. wrestling with opponents and throwing his frame around.. instead of just attacking the footy.

he plays his best footy when he just focuses on and attacks the footy.

doesnt help when the sanfl umps just turn a blind eye to our sanfl opponents scragging and holding our players constantly.. must be frustrating as a player.
Wait...Gollant throwing his frame around? But he's built like a stick man.

These things have a spooky way of working out .....injuries, suspension, management

I really thought these last 3 years would've taught the club something about giving kids opportunities to thrive. It's amazing how the very second we get a sniff of finals the whole thing flips to a rigid 24/25. I can understand that we aren't just going to play anyone anymore but we should still be looking at 30 players otherwise what's the point?

How much do we want this...?

This is the finals make or break game I reckon. Not in mathematical terms of course but gut feel is we miss if we lose, push for 5th/6th if we win.

So I'm tipping... tie.

A lot of blokes wanted it vs Pies. If those same, or approx same, number & quality of players want it here... We'll blow the Dons away.

But it'll be tough to reach that same level.

What a game that was!
