Outs
  • Murphy: the new Mackay. Perhaps bought the photos off David when he retired
  • Smith: or shall we call him “old man fumbles”. I can’t bear to watch another shank from him
  • Berry: breaking my heart son. Call him “the fumbling protege”

Lucky not to be out: Jones, Keays, Peds, Butts (although it’s not his job, that kick for goal was ****ing embarrassing for a professional footballer)

Ins
  • Nankervis: onto the wing for some dare. Jones to take Smiths spot in defence
  • Charlie Edwards: already gone past Cook and looked way less fumble than Berry. Bring him in to the mid / fwd rotation. Also need to get Rachele, Peds and Ranks more on ball time
  • Ned: he can do Murph’s headless chook job until we draft another small forward with pace

BIGGEST OUT:
Stop, start down the line bomb it long into the forward line game plan. That is a thirty year old game style that has no place in modern footy

Didn’t Smith apologise to his team mates last week for his dismal performance? Wonder what he’s going to do this week.

There are half a dozen players who should be dropped but I wouldn’t be surprised if the only one is Berry out. He will be made the scapegoat. Not that he deserves to stay but there are others just as bad or worse.

I don't think Nicks has dropped a senior player yet and I don't see him suddenly doing a 180 on his beliefs (you need X amount of experience in the side to be good) now.
Another ingrained AFC philosophy. There’s an average games threshold across the team required. Only way a senior player gets dropped is if Sloane is coming back to maintain the games played average.

The season has started off remarkably similar to last year
Some good patches of footy in unusual conditions in Sydney and GC
Come home - get blown away early, get a decent run on and be in front late 3rd early 4 th quarter before getting over run again and losing by a few goals

Last year though we had Dawson move into the middle in round 3 - and a showdown - to get our season a kickstart. And then a run of games at home to get the win loss ledger back in a decent position

This year we go to Perth, back home against a regular top 4 opponent and then away again to a side that looks top 5 this year.

It’s going to be a big couple of weeks to save the season!

Smith and Murphy the obvious two to drop. I almost felt sorry for Smithers last night - so bereft of confidence

Forecast for next Friday over here in Perth is 28 degrees and sunny. Will be a quick deck on a long and wide ground at Optus.

If we go with the slow down the line bomb it long game style we will lose by 10+ goals against Freo.

this is all on the coaches to rectify - it’s not a personnel issue (noting some obvious player changes need to be made)

it must be frustrating for a young player at the AFC.

the selection buzz word with the AFC coaches is “continuity’”, they like to try and keep the 22 together. The issue with this is if their best 22 is flawed, selection becomes flawed for the year.

the outs for me are:
-Butts, he has gone backwards since is first 20 games.

- Pedlar, one of my favourite players but needs to sort out his game and kicking

-Berry. we can’t play Berry, Crouch and Laird in the same midfield

- Smith, is now the clanger king of AFC

- Murphy, having zero impact

inclusions

-Curtin to debut in his home state

- Taylor, get his talent and clean ball use in the team to replace Pedlar’s role

- Dowling, time to promote a new midfielder that can hit the scoreboard

- Nank, can play HB and wing if needed

- Cook, to replace Murphy and change the mix and look of our forward line

Came here to post pretty much what everyone in Adelaide can see and has already posted here.

In:
Nankervis
Curtin
Cook

Out:
Murphy
Smith
Berry

Curtin up back for Smith, Nank to the wing, Soligo straight into the middle to replace Berry, and Cook to replace Murphy.

There's no point playing Smith or Murphy in the 1s anymore. If Murphy is there as an example of workrate and pressure, what kind of example is he setting last night? Smith is done and you can see on his face he knows it too.

Laird out, 29 ineffective disposals when Crouch is performing

Smith out, just horrible

Murphy out, ineffective when we have Peds, Rankine and Rachelle

Berry also out given sub

Edwards in for Laird, Nank for Smith, Curtin in for Murphy and Hamill to replace Berry

No more recycling, Hamill misses out give me a fresh face

Yuck. What a woeful performance

Out: Smith, Murphy, Berry, Keyes
In: Curtin, Nankervis, Dowling, Strachan

Having Crouch, Laird & Berry in the same midfield didn't work last year, won't work this year.. move on from it. Soligo needs to play more midield minutes as does Pedlar.

Oh, and it's now time to play Strachan and ROB in the same side.

I’m not opposed to Strachan coming in, but what’s the two of them playing going to achieve.
Rob can play full minutes but can’t play anywhere else.

I would drop Smith Murphy and Laird, but of course that’s not going to happen.

What will The Man do?

“Back the boys in” seems the flavour and likely result.

Perhaps he should visit this site for some “lateral thinking” or more likely just “some thinking”.

The thought of three more seasons of this crap has my stomach turning.

I’m going to watch Hawthorn today who will lose with a very young side full of midfielders they’ve actually recruited and are getting games into. They will blast past the Crows in two years time as we sack Nicks and start the next rebuild.

I’m so salty today, that was awful.

Laird is a pet. Him and Nicksy go way back to Scotch College.

In: Nankervis; Out: Smith
In: McHenry; Out: Murphy
In: Hamill: Out: Berry

Move Rankine to the mids, play McHenry in the small forward role. Try something at least different.

Dowling an elite kick...steady up.

If you'd said generally good kicks maybe for all but Dowling, even Taylor's kicking which is usually very good hasn't been great in the trial games this year which I'm sure bigman will back up.
Dowling is a far better kick than any of the players he would potentially replace (and certainly has the ability to hit the scoreboard too), but that’s fair, his field kicking isn’t elite. It’s “safe”.

As for Taylor, like most / all players his kicking efficiency takes a hit when he plays an inside role, but chuck him on a wing or at half forward / half back and he will lace far more targets than anyone he’s replacing IMO.

One thing’s for sure - we can’t keep doing the same thing and expecting different results. We have proven failures running around each week and it’s time to see what the rest of the list can offer.
