Prediction Changes v Port

I doubt Masten will be dropped. I hope Priddis and Lecca are kept on the sidelines. There's also no reason to bring Lycett back in yet.

Out: Butler, Wellingham
In: Schofield, Partington

If Kennedy in, then one of Barrass or Emac goes out, and tbf MacKenzie has better form than Barrass lately.

EMac is our only lock down defender Falcon, he is a must stay in if we want to be competitive at years end. Gov, Barass etc all play off their man and will get wiped in finals playing that way.

I agree - and he is finally getting some confidence with his body.... but

Our best football has been played with only 2 tall defenders. 2015 and early on this year with Yeo playing as the third tall.

The issue we have is the KP talent - we tend to overplay it - because they are in our best players - but not our best balanced 22.

For mine - we should only be playing 6 talls (Ruck, ruck forward, JK, Darling, and 2 KPD) - it is the side that gives us the best balance.

Gov has to slot in there somewhere - either as a KPD or ruck/forward. It really is an embarassment of riches in the height department - but it shows our lack of class on the ground.

It may be that there is a reprieve this week due to defensive injuries and I note Simmo backs emac against smalls (and port can be tall forward) - but we then lack some major penetration on rebound from d50. Who runs the ball out? DO we need to play gaff as a 7th defender or perhaps jetta?

Good summary, I think the balance we get is that both Mcgoven and Darling are quick and mobile and therefor are not out of place playing small and that is why EMac must stay in the side for me.
Couple of years back or maybe it was last year I liked Hill playing out of defence but that never lasted.
Real selection issues for the MC coming up and that is a good thing. One thing you can bet on is that we won,t all agree which way they go.
Is Lycett going to help us more than Vardy? Very debatable
What to do with Petrie when JK is back?
Gov is a back man full stop.
Will they bring Lecras back? Bottom line he is better than Cripps.
Will they now see the light and understand Mitchell is the teams general, what to do with Priddis?
It's going to be interesting to see.

The criticism of hurn on here is way off. He's a general in our defence and was badly missed in the last quarter yeasterday. Mitchell was even put in the backline for a bit in the last purely for his leadership and guidance, something that hurn would normally do. His one on one defending is also underrated. Doesn't get beat often and can play big and small, he's clearly a walk up start if fit.

In: hurn, nelson, partington, lycett

Out: butler, Wellingham, masten, vardy(rest)

I also reckon lycett will come in and give vardy a rest. He looked quite sore today, which made his game even more impressive. If Kennedy is fit he comes in instead of nelson an gov goes back

Undoubtably he'll come strait back in but saying he was badly missed in that last qtr is also way off. Defense was electric early in the game then both Wellingham and Butler were injured, the problem wasn't that we didn't have Hurn it was that we had 2 of our back 6 out of the game. A bit like saying if Darling and Petrie had of both gone down that we really missed Kennedy out there.

agree one of the reasons Melb reeled in our 3 goal lead was because Hurn was concussed

Well it was obvious to me how stagnant we were yesterday unless it was jetta kicking in . We take it for granted hurns 50m bullets on the tit
The vast majority of Hurn's kick ins are 15m bullets to the pocket nowadays.

Granted that's probably because he hasn't had NN to aim for, but his field kicking in general this season has been well down on his usual.

Ive come to terms that Priddis will be back in this week. As much as I dont want him to be and we are so much better without him. I expect the MC to take the soft option.

Cue either Redden being dropped after finally playing well. Or he will be played out of position, play crap and be dropped.

Priddis will definitely play, even though I hope against all hopes he won't be.

Simmo did say up to 7 players may return next week. Odds on Priddis will be back in.

Odd, after a win in Melbourne against the reigning premiers with a younger, quicker side theirs a chance they'll bring back what wasn't working, the week after. Stupidity at its finest.

Couple of forced changes (e.g. Hurn and Schoey maybe) plus Masten out to give Parto a run.

If Priddis is carrying a back injury, he won't be a simple in this week. Back injuries are structural, and not easily recovered from. The MC should be dragged over coals if he's back in this week.

Is he actually injured? Or is that the spin they have put on it

It's tough, presumably we bring in Kennedy, but at the cost of a tall?

Structurally, you could make a case for Petrie as the unlucky one in order to develop Barrass, Easy likewise, or Barrass himself on defensive form.
Or do we back in the talls by covering the injuries with Hurn and Kennedy, dropping Gov/Yeo into defense? Gov could stay forward and partner Kennedy.
Petrie could ruck and plug holes in defense.

There are lots of options, which must place uncertainty in Hinkley's mind.

I'm conscious of Port's running game, and their talls almost getting them over the line last time. We have talls in excellent form, our increased pressure should limit their run and a developing midfield group is winning us more clearances.

What I'd like to see if injuries keep Wellingham out:

Out:
Wellingham(inj), Butler(inj), Masten
In:
Kennedy, Hurn, Partington

It's not the 80s anymore.
You can't just throw guys down back unless you understand the structures.
Opposition coaches eat that shit up

Problem is - we don't have anyone fit who will understand them

Butler, Wellingham, Nelson all injured.

We have shepp and maybe hurn as smalls.

So someone needs to play there, quite likely 2 (1 to rotate)

I'll throw out a very unpopular opinion - but I think the POrt game might Vardy's last, or perhaps the one after

The lad tries and does some great things, but he got pantsed by an underdone Gawn and Ryder tore him a new arseh*le in the game earlier in the year.

If he can't stand up against quality rucks (i don't mean he has to win, just not be dominated) - then he becomes a major liability

We have the two leading candidates for AA ruck in the next 2 weeks - that IMO will be his litmus test.
