Dumb moves. Lose this and the heat should rightly be on the selectors. Douglas better kick 3+ goals and tackle like a man possessed.
Murphy and Atkins were in the gun and somehow they both managed to dodge it for another week.

I think that Sloane will be a late out and I reckon Greenwood will come in. Why would we risk Sloane. From all accounts he should take the extra week rather than tempting fate.

Still can't really get a grasp on our overall plan.

If we're going all out to win then surely Gibbs/Greenwood are better current footballers than Murphy and Gallucci (in any role).

And if we're keen to keep some younger players in to develop them and build a faster team... fine. But why bring Douglas back?

It's like we're choosing the worst of both worlds. Not picking our strongest team now and not developing our team for the future.

Crows way. Got to keep our middle of the road never bottoming out record intact.

I remember 2014 I think it was when we gave Brodie Martin a string of like 12 games despite his form not being great prior to that. It's not always about what you're doing now, but seeing if a player has anything left to give beyond this year. Douglas is like Jacobs and Mackay who are 30 or over and aren't contracted beyond this year. I wouldn't be surprised if we give Douglas and later Jacobs an extended run to determine what the plan is for them next year. Clearly by Douglas' and Jacobs performances in the SANFL last week they have something there given they both dominated without much trouble, but I get the feeling we wouldn't keep them around to play SANFL next year, so it's either AFL, or they look for another option elsewhere or retire.

I'm not sure if there will be an overall coherent plan this year as it feels like we're still making up our mind on which way we go for 2020, which is gonna cause us to make different moves where we favour young players in one area (like ROB, Gooch, Murphy), but then back in seniors in others to see where they're at too.

Maybe, but Poholke is in his third year now on the list, he should be playing seniors more often by now. It's not like we've been going that well the past 1 1/2 seasons...
Do any of our recruits? 3 years is normal transmission for our selections.

Murphy has banked credit from the some of the games he has played this season and is better than Gibbs and Greenwood in chasing any day. Gallucci was very good with limited possessions last week so it's understandable why they weren't dropped.

I am not sure why Douglas is back in the team though, I think there is another reason why Gibbs has been dropped as on paper and form he should be in the team and not Douglas (both are similar players), Gibbs play high forward very well in the Brisbane game.

If I see him jog to a contest in front of where i sit like i've seen him do a couple of times, i will go *******.

You better rock up to Adelaide Oval locked and loaded.

So Hughy can't get a contract and is dropped after being pivotal in our last quarter last week. Gibbs gets praised by the coach for being instrumental in the second half by making good on Pyke's hail Mary to tag Oliver, then gets dropped. Hartigan comes back in after being strategically dropped against a team who had three talls, because the oppo this week has three talls.

Meanwhile Matt comes in on the back of no games and a three week break against a fast midfield. Douglas comes in on the back of a good SANFL, despite 10 years of evidence that he's mediocre at best.

But the kicker is that Atkins, who should have been investigated for match fixing and/or checked for any semblance of a heart after last weeks game, gets retained and Murphy, who has done his best to look frantic over the last month but has had diminishing impact, stay in.

This is a pivotal game for our season, we have, essentially, a fully healthy squad, and apparently this is our best 22.

THIS is our best 22.

Our best 22, against the form team of the comp, includes Atkins, Douglas and Murphy. Not to mention an underdone M Crouch who, history shows, takes a couple of weeks to get back up to speed after a spell.

I'm trying to work out what the plan is to win this game, let alone how to put together a team that provides anything different than what it has done over the last 12 months. Hopefully, the club's internal indicators vindicate their selections because without the benefit of inside knowledge, my opinion is this team is going to get crunched.

Douglas numbers looked good against the bottom team in the SANFL, some supporters watching him live said he turn the ball over a reasonable amount of time, that's why his inclusion was very strange based on this observation.

It would be interesting to compare with teams who especially drafted players at where we took our picks.

At first glance it feels like other teams play recruits a lot earlier and more regular than ours.

Like I said, it's less about his performance in the SANFL demanded selection, but about seeing how much he has left in the tank. I watched it at the ground live, he made a few mistakes, but certainly no more than any other game he's played and certainly not the worst in the team. But for example, say it comes down to 1 contract spot for 2020 and it's between Douglas and Poholke. You don't want a 32 year old spending the entire year in the SANFL, you could live with a 22 year old doing it. The worst thing that can happen is we find out Douglas is past it at AFL level and that makes the list management decision pretty easy for next year.

Douglas will play in the Middile .......... 2 x Crouches on the Ball. ......... Gibbs to replace Sloane

If that's the case, they should do that against a different team and later in the season.

I think its fairly stable after the top 15. Terribly run bottom clubs pump games into picks before they are ready , using the sink or swim method. Others look for the long term

I think this is part of the analysis Binuk is looking at

Does playing your draft picks earlier help hinder or not matter? DraftGuru presented a table that holds some interest

https://www.draftguru.com.au/analysis/pick-value-comparison

An example Picks 6-10 take on average 7 years to get to 50 games. 7

Pick 31-50 is the sweet spot

Jones has played more than he hasn't.

Weren't people complaining that we were going to run players into the ground? Greenwood was clearly tiring, it was a hot and exhausting game against the Demons and he's not the fittest bloke on the list, we have a 5 day break coming up, if he's back in next week then there's a clear reason for it.

This is where I think the AFC will be judged more than any other time of the year.

There may be reasons why the selections were made, in order to keep some players fresh for Thursday week. Thats the one area we will have an advantage of the Tigers. They have no choice but to play their best this week and next.

If Jacobs and Greenwood come in next week then it makes sense. Tigers are without their ruck, running a few guys back from injury and some youngsters in, get a fresh Jacobs in to give our mids first use and Greenwood back to hopefully being able to play at a high level over 4 quarters.
