In our hunt for Sid. I don’t think Tigers or Roos go Sid.

This is why Saints losing Battle and getting Band 1 would help us in our quest. While Saints are likely to go mids, they would also be in the market for a backman with a not Howard and Wilkie of note. Trainor the logical fit but Will come down to how they rate him compared to the ones expected to go in the 20s.

We could use it to scare the Roos into not trading back with the Crows, knowing we might do the same and still get one of the top 4 mids with pick 5 and saints would still get a Langford/Reid/Lalor.

Hope is both Saints and Roos both fall in love with the idea of Trainor.

Very much in the frame for Tigers at 1 and Crows will go hard for him.

Haven’t paid attention to this years draft or the players but like the idea of picking mids. Ginbey looks like a duck to water in defence and someone who looks like a future AA defender and it would be an added bonus if we don’t need to to move him into the middle as we do lack decent small/mid sized defenders.

Young midfield talent looks quite bare with only Harley and with chesser looking like a bust and Hewett being injured too. Hopefully we can get hewett fit and firing in 2025 and we can see glimpses of our future midfield in play

No sane recruiter is going to trade a kid a year after they drafted him at pick 8 for essentially a pick in the 20’s. If we did that with most here would burn lathlain down.
It wouldnt be just for a pick in the 20s. Itd be for a pick in the 20s and the rights to Draper instead of Smillie/FOS.

What those rights are worth is up to the crows list managers

Again thats just moving up one spot in the draft.

Mind you this also the team that moved up the draft order 12 months ago just to grab curtin, which makes it even more bizzare

I see Malakai Champion has kicked 2 goals in the seniors for Subiaco the last 2 weeks.

Anyone see how he played... and what sort of draft pick we will need to pay to match a bid?

You say it like its nothing. Its not "just" 1 spot in the draft. Its the rights to the local kid who so far has looked better than the others around that mark

FOS will be a HB at the next level.

Smith is well ahead of his development in comparison to others in this draft class. Do not want. Slim frame, short, poor kick.
I get the sense FOS being HB at the next level isn’t what you want from pick 3.

Adding to that, Jagga being slim framed .etc

Can I assume you are all in on Draper or Smilie at 3? Who do you want and what do you think North and Tigers would do?

I like Smillie, but it could be because of his name. Would be a lot of fun next year.

Tiger - Smith
Adelaide - Draper
Eagles - Smillie
Roos - Trainer + Adelaide R2 pick
Saints - FOS or Lalor

Maybe an option for Eagles to trade with Saints?

Pretty much how I see it, we might go FOS instead but flip a coin.

Crows finish the job here against the Dogs and win the Showdown, I reckon the trade won’t happen. Not sure North would want to slide down to 5 and maybe even 6 from pick 2. Would have to be juicy offer

If Smillie is no flight risk I think hed be a good fit.
Ginbey moving to half back opens up another spot for a big contested inside mid. If he can be something remotely like Patrick Cripps thatd be a huge win.

I dont think we need a Draper type necessarily, once we start winning more clearances and get better at holding the ball the possession numbers will rise.
If we could have Reid, Smillie and Hall for example all averaging mid 20s touches in 3 years time as our 3 top mids thatd be completely fine.

Jeez throw in Long, Hewett, Brockman, Champion and a couple of top draft picks in the mix and the team is looking pretty good.
Ginbey has definitely been looking every bit like a very wise draft choice over the last couple of weeks. If Hewett comes good, that would be an outstanding all WA made draft choice.
Really hoping Trew can keep taking strides, Dewar too. If you can get lucky with some Rookie/NGA picks then that’s a huge win.
Hopefully when the draft gets compromised next year we’ll have access to Quality in Banfield, and the NGA kids.
Lots to look forward to.
