Done deals:

  • Zane Trew, Jamaine Jones and Jordyn Baker delisted

Ongoing discussions:

  • List Manager Matt Clarke appeared on Sept 11 Gettable - Click spoiler below for summary
On the draft: "We predicted that the draft was strong, but it's probably gotten stronger during the year."

On top end of draft: "You could probably make five or six different choices and get it right."

On Pick 3: "I reckon there's five (players) around that mark."

On splitting: "I think you want to hold an early selection if you can. The depth of this group allows you to maybe have some movement there, and see what you can do to bring in more talent in the first 20-25 picks. Easier said than done, and I think most clubs would be saying the same thing. We'll see what we can do."

On Liam Baker: "He's still yet to make a decision. They're still weighing up a few things. We'd love to get Liam on board from what he offers from a talent and leadership point of view. We understand where we're at as a group, we're rebuilding our group, we need to add some guys in the middle tier to support our young group."

On Jack Graham: "We've got a number of players that we're speaking to. A bit of a wait and see on that one as well. We'll talk to a number of guys."

On Shai Bolton: "I think it will be difficult for anybody, really. He's heavily contracted and a high quality player."

On James Peatling: "He's heavily involved in a finals series at the moment so I don't want to comment too much on it, but I think there's a number of guys that have been playing really good footy this year that could suit what we do and what other clubs do. He's taken his footy to another level this year."

On Tom Barrass: "We've had an early discussion with Hawthorn about it, they understand where we're at. He's nominated Hawthorn as his ideal destination. We want what we think he's worth, as a genuine key back in the competition that can do what he can do. We're obviously mindful of getting an appropriate deal for West Coast."

On Tom Clurey: "Maybe (note: sounded very non enthused). We'd probably need some key back depth, whether that's through the draft or trade and free agency."

On Jack Darling: "We've had initial discussions with his management group about (moving). We're open to talking, as we are with all of our players, but Jack's contracted with us."

On Liam Ryan: "I expect him to be at West Coast next year, yes." (The most definitive answer of the day by a mile, a non-starter of a talking point.)

On out of contact players e.g. Rotham, Witherden, Jones: "We're still working through what it looks like from a list point of view, and how many selections we'll want to have, and players that may come in and potentially may go out. You might want to give a coach an opportunity to look at these guys."

On Harley Reid: "We've had discussions most of the year with his management group. I think it sits in a really good place. We're open to doing really whatever they want to do to be honest. We're really confident in building the right system around Harley, on and off field, to make sure that he's really comfortable, that he's going to play his best footy, and his long term future."

On Jake Waterman's new deal: "Yep, really close. We're working really closely with his management on that. I expect that we'll have something done pretty soon."

On Oscar Allen: "We've been talking with Oscar and his manager most of the year on that one. We're going through some stuff at the moment. I think we'll be ok with that one."

They are not under achievers, they have been part of and okayed very important roles for the tigers in a successful era we could only dream about.
Why do we continue to bag players from other clubs and put our own players as all stars and champions.
It’s really annoying.

There are plenty who bag our own too. Personally, I can't be bothered with those who bag our own. Low lifes!

Jesus there's a huge gap between 1-6 to 12-18.

We are seriously the dumbest recruiting team on the planet.

People wonder why we have a lack of mids that can touch the ball.

I can't believe im saying this but trading future 1st For Dan Curtin was better then this crapola. And that future 1st For Curtin is still pretty crapola.

I refuse to believe the Carlton thing can get done. We rejected their future 1st and this year's first rounder. So now since we have two first rounders this year we take it?? I doubt it

Valued round an early teens pick. Around means plus or minus what?

And do all players get traded for exactly what they are worth? No they often dont.

Is Bailey Smith valued at pick 17? Hell no.

Did the Dogs get fair value for Dunckley? Absolutely not.

What about Dawson to the Crows? Pfffft. Swans still get cranky at that deal.

Future 1st in the teens might be the max.
you’re completely missing the point. I’m not arguing about what he’ll be traded for

I was responding to a poster who said we should go to Richmond and tell them we value him as a 2nd round pick

We’re pissing away 1 on Baker. I’m pissing myself
This decision should no consideration of Baker but instead "how even the top 15 players" are.
Split pick 3 for two top 10 picks, trade one of those picks with the blues for 12 and 14. Give Tigers 14 for Baker. Would then leave us with 1 top 10 draft pick and 12 that we could hopefully use for Bo Allan

Perfect but all recruiters know this is a even draft and not many demand in getting top 5 pick (if they have to pay over)

I feel for you guys as a supporter base. Most years #3 would get you a kings ransom. But inside this top 10 - clubs won’t package those picks to go further.

Maybe it’s worthwhile to try get 6+10 for 3? ( Is that possible?) and it seems you’ll get F1s for Barrass, so use one for Baker?

It’s the luck of the dice.

I would much rather our draft hand from the last 2 years than it being reversed. Pick 1 and Reid last year compared with pick 1 this year is not even close

👏 NOTHING.👏 HAS. 👏 HAPPENED. 👏 YET. 👏

A lot of role player types and guys who might not make it in that group of 17 though. Still need some high end talent to go with it

Ádd another 4 or 5. Makes 20 odd kids.

And you are right all wont make it. But some will and others may surprise.

Listening to the new coach he mentioned taking some of Richmonds chaos fast play when they were at their peak but also bring in some new defensive structures he was apart of at Melbourne.

Now that sounds interesting and hopefully the end of the dead, defensive wing. He also said we will look to move the ball quicker as we have two quality tall forwards who can take advantage of that quick ball movement.

Based on the Carlton guys post.

We trade 3, a 'mid range pick linked to player movement' and a couple of very late picks (for points) for 12 and 14.

Suspect we do what the club originally planned and give Richmond 14 for Baker. Take best available with 12.

Based on the 'mid range pick linked to player movement' we expect the Barrass deal with Hawthorn to be done.

Potentially Barrass for a F1 and F2 (our original asking price, except a F1 instead of 14). F2 goes to Carlton as part of the deal.

Out: 3, Barrass. In: Baker, 12, Hawks (or Carlton) F1.

Can only assume then WCE see some massive value in 12 & 14.
It seems (from ITK on our board) that we're getting your latter picks as well thrown in.
If it's all about Bo Allen just take him at 3.
You'll need to add another top 15 pick to make it remotely reasonable (even then it's not a great outcome for us).
Don't want Allan at all for West Coast. Would prefer we overpay for Travaglia at a top 10 pick (not 3) than trade down for your proposed picks and getting Baker and Allan. We don't need to be tanking the draft as well as the season.

Sure, but you trade pick 3 for overs, not pretty good.
It’s not even pretty good it’s pretty ordinary.

Instead of a top echelon player we’d be getting a next level one plus Baker - a poor result.

Baker has to be taken out of it - a twenties pick, PSD, or forget.

Our whole drafting strategy seems to being built around a ‘goodish player who is not good enough to be at the center of an important drafting year.
