I'm not surprised. The club looks exciting moving forward. I suspect we will appeal to alot of our trade targets now as competition for spots is wide open. We will have the most exciting list in the comp in 2 years I reckon if we trade correctly. I can't see us being anywhere close to the worst team in the comp next year. I'm predicting a 10th to 12th finish.

Also it wouldn't surprise me if the club offered Atkins compo as the end result to get the deal done. It may depend though on any other trades in the pipeline we have coming.

Zavier Maher is your boy. See my avatar.
MURRAY BUSHRANGERS

Potential No.1 pick Elijah Hollands is still firmly in the minds of AFL recruiters, despite the exciting and ultra-versatile 188cm utility rupturing his ACL in February. He's not the only Bushrangers prospect garnering AFL interest, though. Zavier Maher is rocketing up the ranks of several recruiters as a strong and powerful 184cm midfielder. He's explosive out of stoppages, has quick and evasive lateral movement and is seen in some circles as a potential first-round prospect after a summer where he spent time training with Richmond. Charlie Byrne is a running 183cm defender who has a raking left-foot kick. He's a sound decision-maker and is another who has attracted some interest. Clubs had been hopeful of seeing him push through the midfield this season.
if only we have guys that can burst away at speed and nail passes by foot (cough cough Jones/Gooch)...

its just a real shame we are not trying to poach a kid from a vic club like Carlton or Geelong - I would have been begging the club to use the PSD route
Haha I'd even come at Raz for the shits and giggles if he wasn't contracted just to piss off DODO. ;):fire::thumbsu:

I don’t think we should go the PSD route, but all this ‘burning good will’ by being firm is bullshit.

We have for the most part been pushovers at the trade table, and it has come back to haunt us as clubs know they can screw us. You think because we accepted unders for Keath and Greenwood, we are going to get favourable trades from these teams? Still waiting for Geelong to pay us back for the Danger trade if that was the case.

Bellarine Peninsula would be a good enough compromise if playing for Geelong - i just assume (based on nothing but guess work) that most of their players live on the coast
Courtesy of club benefactor Frank Costa no doubt.

Hatley fills one need, that being that big bodied clearance player.

I've always thought that we need more variety in or midfield and this is a good first step.

Hatley doesn't plug the pace and class gap that is still missing from our midfield rotation. Guys that can burst away at speed and nail passes by foot. Hopefully this is Hollands.

Where is this Parfitt stuff coming from? Geelong would be crazy to get rid of him.

Geelong would be crazy to get rid of him, but I think it's a bit of a juggling act with their salary cap with them moment (SURELY it must be tight). I don't see them bringing in multiple players like Crouch on $650k+ without having to give something up. I think they want to have their cake and eat it too. Parfitt is currently out of contract and is only being offered a 2 year contract, as reported by a few media outlets. He's due a contract that's fairly reasonable, so if Geelong aren't offering years and $$ then he might be ripe for the picking. He was also plucked from the SANFL so has connections here.

Nothing this lad has done to date confirms to me him being a high contributing member of a winning finals team. But the sample size is minute. So, Bigfooty, let's just wait and see. He has not lit it up like Sholl, Hamill or McPherson. He's 19, but has a small body of work under his belt for us to go on. So I'm not sold yet. I want elite. Without pace and depth in his kick, I'll need to see more.

Theo D saying GWS want a late 1st/early 2nd for him which would put them gunning for pick 20 or the Crouch compo if that blows out. Given we have the PSD threat and that he's uncontacted they probably have to accept unders for him though
That's their starting point, we will offer up a 3rd rounder and then we end up somewhere in between.

It was always just a formality really...
True True , but a pretty exciting one for us ... 2 years grappling with that strong midfield group in training and he will be hungry to make the most of a decent run in his natural position as an inside/outside midfielder .

I really like his ability to push forward , find space and get on the end of a few .

His set shot kicking from anywhere inside the 50 is a strength as is his overall marking for size .

in a lot of ways picking up Hately now covers off the jones pick from 2018. Meaning that if Hately comes good with us and becomes a very good player then if jones is a bust (not saying he is) then we are still at least not down from that so called super draft year. We could have easily picked up Hately instead of Jones at the time so now it is like a 2 for 1 as we won't be paying anything like what it would have cost back then for both of them

No faith in Hamill or Sholl making it?

And exactly how much midfield has he played in those 2 wasted years at GWS?

He's an inside clearance midfielder first and foremost.

Don't get me wrong I hope he develops into an elite inside player, but just trying to temper expectations.

I'd be more inclined to think 12-16th next year.

No way are we worse than North, Essendon or Hawks.

I will be in hysterics if we finish above Carlton however.
