Im feeling rather Good ATM and not cause we won so I thought what were the positives out of that shocking game on the weekend.
Here are some to get us Started.

1) We finally won a close scappy encounter.

2) The young fellows stood up when the game was in the balance.

3) Would have been Mastens Best complete game to date.

4) The team Flew the flag when required.

5) We had heaps of Inside 50s and actually Mark the ball as well.

6) Mark LeCras Kicked 4 Goals.

7) Kennedy Looked good when he was on the lead.

8) McNamara had a very good game in his first for the year.

9) A.Selwood Had another fine game.

10) We didnt fade and get over run in the 4th QTR (which I was expecting):):thumbsu:

Masten

Still hasn't had a game as good as Palmer's 10th best game but showed glimpses. Enough to suggest he will develop into a good player with good foot skills.

We just need to pump games into this guy.

A lot of those can be turned into negatives as well but we will keep this on the positive track.

LeCras was fantasic and is really coming along well. Could have had 6 or 7 but was very good regardless.

Thought Kennedy was ok, not brilliant but not bad, If that was an average game then i think we will see some good performances from him in the coming weeks. Has earned his chance and should get at least a month to prove his worth.

Masten was ok and showed some good signs, and Adam Selwood continued his decent form. Is one of our most important players IMO.

The third quarter spurt where we kicked 3-4 quickly was impressive, mainly because it was driven by the younger players who took on the responsibility.

I think it shows that throwing the youth in is the only way to go forward. Sad that most of it was forced through injury (pridd/kerr/) but you develop quicker playing AFL than WAFL.

I can't see why Swift/Houlihan/Nat/ aren't thrown in, irregardless of WAFL form. Young players will be inconsistent no matter what but the sooner they're in the better.

Finally watched this last night - especially agreed on that third quarter spurt. Cockie burrowing under and shooting the ball out to JMac, runs and shoots on goal. That's the future.

Which makes me ask, why do people here generally not rate JMac? I've only seen him in bits but he always looks composed and does more with the ball than some of the more established players (e.g. Rosa).

I guess the issue with JMac is that he in fact, regularly, doesnt look composed and looks like he is out of his depth at AFL level.

I wrote in the game thread at half time on Sunday that if he didnt do something in the second half he was likely playing his last game for the club. He was very poor, rushed and uncomposed in that first half.

He had a better second half and was smart enough to stand a few metres away from Cockie and get on the end of Cockies excellent inside work in Q3 (in particular) but I am yet to be convinced that he is a long term AFL player.

Certainly promising signs in parts of that second half but there were promising signs from him in late 2007. He is still very much a "maybe" player for me.

your on the money buddy, from a game where at times we looked shot you got it right with your review

I thought Masten came close to this weeks rising star. Of course he won't get one unless he gets 45 touches, 8 goals and 24 marks, and even then he would be a good chance to get beaten the like of Sidebottom, with 21 touches and a goal. Every one of his 18 touches was pure class.

What about the snap for goal from 20m out that failed to get 1m off the ground and went straight into a Melbourne player?

Yeah, I did say to myself that the goal he kicked in the third saved his career.

I wonder the same thing and have done since his debut. Is there some shortcoming I don't know about? Has had little opportunity and despite that I can't recall him failing "per-say" in any game he's played.
Seems composed, not easily panicked, good user, actually reminds me a bit of Beams from Collingwood.
What am I missing?

Hard to put a finger on....looks a little lost when in space at times, disposal is ok, definately hard enough at the contest, not the cleanest set of hands and maybe a little harsh but the way he kicked that ball i was very suprised to see it go through, he was all over the shop did'nt look very balanced.
Looks like he has the determination so could make a solid footballer...but thats about it.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong but I can recall his debut which was full of merit and composure right from the start. You don't have natural composure right at the start of an AFL career and then loose it without there being confusing messages sent by the club/coaching staff, bringing on the doubt.
I actually think he has become over-anxious in his attempts to keep his spot because in the past he has been continually dropped without getting the half dozen games in a row opportunities that others have.
His build is probably too slight for the style of game he plays and perhaps that was an issue, but the game has changed signifigantly.
I think the eagles may have misjudged this kid.
