Good side. Its great to see a top line best 23 all fit and healthy. Clearly Curtin and Sid are developing so its good we havent just ditched them to the rezzies first chance to bring in senior bodies.

I cant believe that since we have nothing to whinge about with our best 23 selection, we are now complaining about the emergencies. I think thats a first since I have been on here. Once Murphy doesnt appear in the emergencies what will do? Start listing of better players named on the bench in our Sanfl squad that should be starting instead of Murphy? lol

No Langford and Ridley leave big holes up forward and defence. If we want to make progress towards finals, then these are the away trips we need to be winning. Our forward line SHOULD get a hold of their defence to make the difference.

It’s also an “8 point game” for us. If we can’t win these games we shouldn’t play finals. It’s the difference between finishing 4th-8th and finishing 9th-13th. Essendon will think they’re in much the same ballpark as us this year. They certainly didn’t disgrace themselves against hawthorn.

lol the theory of an 8 point game - I don’t subscribe to it

Each won is worth 4 points, get enough wins you make the 8 - simple

Not to mention - Essendon is not contending for finals

So how does this influence our team rating? I like to think that we actually have a really good team. A team that could beat any team or the very least be able to push the game against the best teams in the comp. How much does Nicks hinder that? he is widely inconsistent and has previously chopped and changed game plans from week to week just because of the opposition. I know there was a 3 week period a couple of years back where we played great attacking football, but we came up against Essendon who werent that bad back then and Nicks on the spot tried to play kick and catch conservative football to stop Essendons running game (at that time). We lost. Embarrassingly so too. Another time he picked a smaller side under the roof at Marvel....and we lost.

I hope Davies has smacked this crap out of his coaching. Consistency is the key. You never see this chop and change game style by any coach from any top side ever. So why the hell did Nicks think it was a starter?

If they take a couple of extra emergencies - because they can - then they should take one serious one - Nankervis - then rotate the others for the experience, especially as its at the MCG. Murphy doesn't need this and shouldn't be there anyhow.

I'm not having a go at you specifically here, but I've been hearing this argument a lot lately, and I kind of hate it.

Sid would have a big impact as sub, yes. He would have an even bigger impact playing a full game.

You know who would have a huge impact as sub? Rankine. Or Dawson. Or Soligo. Or any of our best players.

We shouldn't be choosing our sub based on who can impact. Furthermore, we've seen for years now that it's not good for players to play smaller portions of gametime week after week. Draper did his role as sub last week. He deserves a full game this week. Someone else can be sub.

But we also know that Draper is coming off of a number of significant injuries in the last 12 months. All stress related (shin splints and back)
So why not ease him in time wise where he can take a lighter load, gain AFL time and still play a key role as a burst player?

Soon as we see high draft pick on this board - not you specifically - it’s must play maximum time at all cost. It’s just a dumb argument.

I have no idea why people are so hung up on it, I'm almost certain the players wouldn't be.

With no SANFL game the club should be taking the 3 emergencies to Melbourne.

You don't reckon it would be beneficial for the youngsters to experience the:
  • travel
  • routine/team bonding
  • team meetings
  • observing how the experienced guys go about things for an away game
  • heading to the MCG on the team bus
  • checking out the changerooms etc
Or
  • Wave goodbye to Murphy
  • Sit at home and watch the game on TV

I know what I'd be preferring to do as a youngster trying to break into the seniors.

There is zero upside in taking Murphy, he's not the next up in any position -we don't do the little things well.

Your first point is absolutely relevant, but in that instance why is Nankervis going ?? And do we know that the squad arent going ?? I mean I would say the Vic kids would all go over as there isnt a SANFL game.

It allows us to take more than the 3 mandated players.
