I feel sorry for Bergman, forever to live in Jason’s shadow now. Best he colours his hair

It's funny with Bergman, but every time I saw him from the back my first thought was Wayne Mahney!

The blonde hair, #14 and build ... granted Mahns was more reddish haired but still light.

Review: staggered into the Tudor hotel to watch the second half and bumped into a bloke I used to work with more than 10 years ago. Haven't seen the crazy Scotsman since about 2010. Game seemed to be going in the right direction so boozing and banter at the expense of former work colleagues took over from the viewing. Did I miss much? ;)

I will say this for the Hipwood v Port discussion - at 3 quarter time he had 1 kick for 1 goal. Against any other team that would have been a point 😉

Can you imagine what the margin would have been at half time if the free kick count had been reversed?

80-90 points at a minimum (full-time). I look forward to the day when iT aLL eVeNs OuT for us in Hobart, Perth or Brisbane.

You never know what can happen from week to week but you can't seriously talk down Brisbane in relation to Collingwood.

Brisbane have been a top 4 quality team for several years now, added Dunkley, McKenna and Gunston to last year's prelim final team and were widely viewed as a premiership favourite.

One of the recurring themes on this board for years is how well structured Brisbane are and how they crush us mentally. They're not suddenly not these things because of one result.
Way to much common sense in that reply.
Better give yourself a two week ban for that as it’s too positive for this forum.

I reckon you could watch the replay of the 1st, 3rd and 4th quarters 100 times and still not get bored.

All you need to know about this state's one paper pissant media in one front page.

I’m interpreting this as the Tiser’s defence of the stuff up. A quote from their website.

They look so alike that even some Port Adelaide fans at times had trouble telling the difference between recruit Jason Horne-Francis (below left) and teammate Miles Bergman during the Power's big win over Brisbane.

LOL - so it's our fault.

Rest assured they will be out in Alberton and surrounding burb shopping precincts today with headshot photos of Bergman and JHF looking for Port fans to see if they can tell the difference so they can get a 'see- even port fans can't tell the difference' headline to cover their ass tomorrow.

If only players had numbers on their jumpers so that the poor Advertiser journo could tell who was who.

They've changed the pic online...

Yeah he's a bit of a seagull but you need some players who just know where to be and how to put the ball through the sticks.

Once or twice one if he or Orazio needed to go and neither did which could become a problem when both are playing

I noticed at the game in the first was to isolate Marshall at FF (nice to see a player left there by the way) and Dixon was at CHF with Rioli at his feet. Pretty dangerous setup especially if it gets out back.

Do you want to win or play the 24 year old?

Close decision?

Drew had 20 disposals, 8 contested, 4 kicks and 3 clearances today playing for a dominant midfield with a rejuvenated Lycett in ruck
Boak averaged 27 disposals, 12 contested, 12, kicks, and 6 clearances last season playing for a midfield that got beaten more often than not with Finlayson doing most of the ruck work.

Please play the geriatric.
No disrespect to Boak, he’s been huge for our club both on and off the field. But he’s symptomatic of our problems over the last 4-5 years, his disposal is poor and he makes regular errors with skills, not the level of wines type brain fades or hacks over his shoulders, but in big moments in games he bottles it.

he would be in my side, but as for next week, no, we don’t need to make a change, reward the blokes who won the game, give him a run in the twos to get some touch and have him ready for the showdown.

I’m not a huge drew fan, but drew needs to be in the side as we need a shutdown player if needed. We need him to play a role on a daicos or a Warner or libba etc, that’s his value.

boak shouldn’t be an automatic in the midfield, maybe a squirt or two in there and that’s it. It’s time for change, it’s time for some quality skill level in our midfield.

but we know kenny is weak as piss and won’t have the balls not to pick him, kenny wouldn’t be able to sleep at night.

He can’t sleep because of too many soda’s

You've gotta temper everything with the reality of round 1. 40% of the eventual premiers lose round 1, so it's the sort of round that doesn't mean a whole heap.

But

Wow.

Where did that last half come from.

We were so dominant in the early parts of the game but all the ball control seemed to go nowhere, we fumbled and bumbled forward and gave ourselves limited and poor chances at best. Then suddenly in the 3rd, probably mainly on the back of JHF, we were penetrating with our touches, getting over the defence, finding holes in a forward line that hadn't had time to become cluttered. It was an outstanding period of play. The Lions gave up in the last, so that was junk time, but that 3rd was insanely good.

Aliir Aliir was incredible. That was as good as he's ever played for us. They rotated a heap of players through him but couldn't curtail him. He was amazing in the air but if it wasn't him McKenzie was also starring.

When he wasn't doing it in the air. Farrell, Houston, Burton were simply sensational off half back.

Then on the wings, Bergman and Duursma were absolutely sublime. Duursma has had some critics, but he was at his line breaking best and Bergman was strong and composed other than a hiccup or two.

Then you have the midfield who were fantastic. Rozee just sensational at creating space and tearing the opposition to shreds. JHF just showing exactly what we all dream of in the 3rd. Butters and Drew doing their jobs too.

Up forward Marshall continued where he left off and Dixon was back to his best, though off target.

And Rioli! What a debut. His pressure, the little blocked handballs, the intercepts, the touches, the dropped mark and the sensational goal! All of it, he was brilliant.

There's still a lot of upside too. Wines was poor, Georgiades is just looking down, Jonas & DBJ continue to be meh, Fantasia was quiet and Jones kicked 3 despite seemingly being completely confused in his mixed up role.

Lots to love, but its round 1. The first half was the same old concerns, but that 3rd quarter was sensational. Let's hope it is a sign of things to come.
Jonas & DBJ have copped a hammering on here the last year or so. But I actually thought both were very good, particularly DBJ, i thought it was nearly back to his 2020 form. I must've been watching a different game because i thought our defence did a terrific job.

I agree with you on Allir Allir, i've been critical of him lately but that is because his form drop off last year compared to the year before was bigger than any other player in my opinion. A lot of that had to do with him carrying that ankle for most of the year i think, he was definitely back to his 2021 best yesterday.

I'd have my money on Wines to win us the game over Boak any day of the week. Wines may make some disposal errors but he's usually up and about and is way more deadly around goals. Love Boak but I would describe him dangerous. Reliable is the word that comes to mind. We are way better when we are taking risks.

Bergman had a good game but 6 clangers and 48% efficiency

Can only get better once he gets games under his belt
Didnt have that issue in the pre season really. The occassion probably had a factor. He has only played 30 odd games. After this season he will be super settled.

Excuse me but he was on the front page of the Sunday Mail. I think professional journalists have a slightly more valid opinion than you.

Wow.... just wow.

Second quarter was poor, but the rest was just sensational.

JHF was fantastic, as were Butters and Roz
Farrell looked handy, Duursma and Bergman owned the wings
Dixon marked everything he went there
Aliir was great down back
Burton destroyed Cameron
SPP was outstanding
Junior looked sharp

Fantasia was quiet, and Jones only really came into it in the last quarter, but thats just picking holes
And Lycett was very, very important at the start of the third.

What depth we now have: it will be very competive for spots with the likes of; Finlayson, Josh Sinn, Nathan Barkla, Clury, Bonner plus others (aka Boak) not in the team.
