Autopsy Round 14, 2024 : Hawks skin Tigers

I don't see the point of keeping the lid on it, at best we sneak into the 8 but we should give the big middle finger all the way while we attempt to.

We've had failed rebuild, 10 ten year rebuild, clueless recruiting, tanking calls thrown our way by pretty much all the media and not one of them will every think of putting their hand up and say I was wrong just like how Montagna this week said something to the effect of "well if Hawthorn are happy with a finished rebuild and sit 12th, good for them I guess"
Montagna can pontificate all he likes - he never won a flag and is probably green in the guts about clubs that regularly can.

We are on the way and everyone knows it. This club exists to win premierships and we will be in contention for the next few years.

That would be the biggest ever h&a crowd we have played against right?

Great win
No it’s the second biggest hawk home and away crowd

Hawks v pies 1981 Anzac Day vfl park had 92 991 people the biggest and 6th biggest home and away of all time

This was 8th biggest home and away crowd of all time

All year I never lost faith in this team, there was just some tweaking required and we were going to be competitive.

But taking a giant crap on the biggest Celebration Richmond supporters are going to have for 10 years or more, was a sign of ruthless maturity and development that illustrates there's a lot more to come yet.

We owed that club what we gave them. When they tried to assert themselves physically, we literally made them look like clowns. It's been a long time coming, and it was great to watch. Mini goal achieved for this team.

A quick peruse of the Richmond board confirmed a trend of the last five or six weeks. Every team that plays us has the opposition supporters complaining about their squad playing their worst game of the year.

The Hawks boys are putting on tremendous pressure and causing a lot of skill errors. Good defensive setups each week neutralise opposition plans and high pressure really limits the “hero ball” opportunities against us. Somehow causing every team to make their worst effort when they play us.

Nice work, boys. Keep up the effort.
You should go on the Collingwood board, comments along the lines of 'they've been belting us most of my life I thought at least this time they'd have a decent run down the bottom'

'they're like a virus that can't be destroyed'

Etc

And oh 'Watson is a flog' 🤣

And angst on the Geelong board too.

They're playing with youthful exuberance and having fun out there - all good.
But I see some heart break as a rite of passage before they become killers.

Sometimes you need to feel pain before you become ruthless enough to win it all.

Our backline structure is scary good ATM. For those at ground, assuming it's Frost, Sic, Srim, Weddle, Amon and Jars most of time....

But with athletic profile and want to get an extra, Hardwick rolls back as well as any of wingers and high half forwards? Guess that's modern footy. Even saw Dear back deep in the first...

Been said before by many, but certainly helps to have so many aerobic animals... Love the Hawks!

While it's true that we were unlucky in 2 close games. We were lucky in 3 others vs Stkilda, GWS and Bulldogs.

Apparently in games under 10 points most sides end up going about 50/50 in them. Which is why it was such a big thing with Collingwood to be so good at it but even then in 2022 it turned on them in finals. And this year has shown that winning so many close games last year meant they weren't actually much better than the opposition and if they went 50/50 they would be mid table as they are now not top 4 like last year.
I agree. It’s possible we might not win 1 or 2 of the other games without the learnings from the Port loss.

Still it shows we are getting closer.

He can't see over the man on the mark so runs out. It's not about the distance, look and his kick to Moore he was in the clear and didn't hook out for that long pass just kept the straight line and it went long and straight.

Just take a longer run up u think. Surely he didn't do that for every set shot in juniors?

Also Ginnivan needs to spend a week watching Jack Ginnivan highlights. At Collingwood he was nailing set shots perfectly from 40 out on the angle drop out, not 30 out straight in from he's too scared to kick a drop punt?

Did he do the same at BH

He can kick it from 50 easily at Box Hill.

Can't even kick it over 40 at AFL level.

Just needs to settle. He's doing everything but finishing the hard work.

Is his running straight at the goals at BH in his routine or out to the right then hook it.?

Sicily and Scrimmers are two of the best intercept defenders going.

We always, always look a better team when those two are controlling the air across half back.

Weddle gives similar aerial ability but also adds the power running.

It's a powerful combo to be sure.

Yeah as it’s hard to stop two players that do it.

Was watching the replay (2nd half), game ended, interview started with Dusty and only one question was asked before it stopped. Thank you Foxtel :tearsofjoy: .

That’s interesting kayo had all the interview with Riewoldt and him getting chaired off, then our song being sung I thought they were the same feed.

Actually worked out quite well getting a good dress rehearsal in front of 92k at the mcg against a bog average side. The confidence will do a world of good for when we're dismantling a side in September this year.

And to play so well in front of a crowd this size is a great sign, one of the advantages that scum and Collingwood have with Anzac Day there kids always get used to the big crowds.

Chol
d'Ambrosio
Ginnivan
three best recruits we could ever have hoped for. As good as Bramble has been this year, the little fellah from Essendon is a level above. Played himself into the AA 40 squad today, as did Moore and Sicily.

TBH, wasn't our best game, lots of handling and skill errors, but the pressure has yet again been elite.
12 hours ago, I would have said Mitch Lewis might come in for a tired Gunston, but after watching Scaife live today, he might get first go.
Seamus Mitchell was incredible, he surely is an AFL player, he'll be beating down the door.

I every one is saying Lewis will come in when fit, but if Scaife starts to play really well surely he comes in first and Lewis is behind another tall.

100% this .
Got to enjoy the ride . Why shy away from it .
It'll still have some downs and challenges along the way .
You get the heartbreak against Port ( and we will still have those ) followed by the last month .

Not only are we playing well but we are really fun to watch too . And there is do much scope for improvement .

I loved last week watching some analylists picking holes in our game, weak areas that don't stack up .
Only a huge positive in my book , it means we are only going to get better .

I'll forever be thankful for Dusty beating Geel in the GF but that post match interview with Riewoldt was an absolutely wankfest. Was so long, am surprised our boys hung around for the guard of honour, of which didnt see Dusty even acknowledge. Oh well, suck shit, scoreboard...
Well he actually did , if you saw the whole thing.
It was a bit over the top but I think that was more to him not doing media.
In the end he is a 300 game , 3 time NS medallist/premiership player and Brownlow medallist . It's an incredible record.

We get the win , he gets rightfully the story . A perfect result .

Lewis will be huge for our finals push but at the moment needs more time at BoxHill to get fit. But I’m also bullish on Scaife, almost the same way I was bullish on Dear …. I’ve got goose bumps.

However assuming someone misses for the WestCoast game in Perth. Who comes in next? Do you play Ward, or do you bring in Finn to tag Reid?

Do we back our midfield the way they're travelling and going in unchanged.... Or perhaps Gunston, Breust & CJ are considered for prospect of Shammy return or Scaife debut... Probably still need at least one experienced head up forward though.

WE MAY NEVER LOSE AGAIN
Happy Antonio Banderas GIF

Just watched a vid on the AFL app titled “Moore brings down Brown in a sling tackle”. Doesn’t look to be too much in it to me?
