Certain ingredients and cooking techniques are the guilty parties for the less-than-appealing look of most homemade soup. The most common instigators are beans, legumes and pulses, which are often full of starchy carbohydrates, which leak out into the stock and make it cloudy. Cooking or sautéing the base ingredients also contributes to a cloudy or vomitously chunky texture.

So if you really are after a clear, fresher looking soup, then the easiest way to achieve this is to simply throw all of the ingredients in water while avoiding starches. Another possible solution is to blend the soups, but in a recent study done by the South Australian Culinary College, it was found that a staggering 86 per cent of respondents said blended or pureed soups reminded them of 'old age, nursing homes, and the inevitable black chasm of death'.

But I think we need to approach this differently. Rather than sink the boot into the rough, even ugly, appearance of homemade soups, we should celebrate it. There is far too much airbrushing, editing, advertising, sanitising in our society. Does everything have to look so nice all the time? Does everything have to be so clean and tidy? Does it really matter than I ran out of Valium last night and tried huffing Araldite? I look at the soup I made last night and I celebrate the fact it looks like it's already been eaten a couple of times. In Japanese culture there is an aesthetic celebration of imperfection called wabi sabi, which is something I think we should apply to soup.

Out: Bolton or Butler (reluctantly)

Piss De Re'sistance...

Those bashing caddy didn't see him live.
His presence , bash and crash around the stoppages and long searching leads were huge for us.
Totally agree, he was pretty tough at it

Hate to look forward too much but if we can hold onto a top four spot then watch out whoever we play first.
No pressure to win, no expectations. Whoever it may be, I think we are every chance of causing an upset.

Couple of weeks early, but is anybody heading down to Simonds Stadium for the Geelong game? I'm considering it, it's a massive drive for me.

Yeah Il try to get tickets, apparently Symonds are not going to let many away fans in so i'd get tickets as soon as possible

Love the positivity. Adelaide in Adelaide. Think most (sane people) would be backing them there. Will book my GF ticket if we do. (kick with the wind in the 1st will help!)

Port are our main threat for top four.
They have a showdown against Adelaide next week Sunday twilight.
We are the game before.
If we beat Hawthorn and Port lose to Adelaide that would put us two games clear in the top four with only three games to go.

Next week is absolutely massive.

Where and when is it at...might play a big bearing on the result...

Even still broad is playing the role of short, so really it's between Ellis and menadue ATM. Ellis played well last night and should stay
Don't think broad is playing shorts role.

Short isn't a great defender, he's a distributor. Broad is defending very well and played small against GWS and owned Greene. He has to stay in as he allows grimes and co more freedom.

Cellis was ok but nothing special.

GWS v. Melbourne next week is another one to keep an eye on.
No reason as to why Melbourne can't get the win.
