after watching port run the ball the length of the ground from our attacking zone it’s scary to think what Whitfield, Aish, idden, perryman and Callaghan will do…

We need to get a pacey defensive forward from somewhere… maybe dewar is it

Rawlinson would play that role better than Dewar ..

People on here were ragging on charlie dixon in the match day thread.

He gives it everything for port and is a pretty good key forward.

Compare that to the disinterested nugget up forward who put himself on leave due to doctors orders then magically healed just when his income was about to be cut.

A lot of people potting Darling and yes he wasn't great but Allen was a traffic cone today (giving him a pass due to gastro) and his man ran off him all day to double Darling.

I’m not going to criticise the selection of Gaff in hindsight because I understand the rationale for picking him - he’d done enough over the preseason overall to get first crack. Especially with Sheed, Hewett and Hall (who was underdone) being unavailable for selection

Of the senior players though his spot was the most vulnerable

He had a really bad game. Really bad to the extent that it’s near impossible to justify him being retained for next week

Gaff was always likely to be the canary in the coal mine for Simpson’s claim of there being no more credits in the bank. One round in and that claim is going to be tested

Either Simpson’s committed to the rebuild and selects the team on merit accordingly or he keeps Gaff in the side

So Gaff out and Chesser into the 22

Either Jones or Hall should come into the 23 to replace him. My preference would be Jones with the intention of using him as the sub giving Hall the chance to play a full WAFL game

I’d then have Gaff as the non-playing emergency rather than put him in a WAFL practice match as the other players need the game time more than him

Barring injury I don’t think any other changes are necessary

Yep, this.
Poor by Gaff. That output wouldn't even cover the hotel bill, let alone his flight ticket and as we all know, definitely not his wage.

Barrass gets to make Hogan look like pick 1 next week. Seriously hope he has a better game.

Surely gaff playing in the wafl just means a top up player doesn't play right?
Jones would be a good sub, can play across all lines wherever needed

A duo without merit. Who was crappier? Waterman was also unsighted after the first few minutes. When Petro is our highest score something isn't working down forward. Then again our two key defenders look to be on their last legs.

That wasn’t my point

Each weekend one player effectively sits out as a non-playing emergency just in case someone can’t play. This weekend it was Dewar who travelled but didn’t play

Next weekend, even though we don’t travel, someone still won’t play WAFL on Saturday so they’re available on Sunday (vs GWS) as an emergency.

I’m suggesting Gaff be that player

Out: Gaff
In: Burgiel (4 goals)

Burgiel didn’t kick 4 goals. That’s been misreported due to an error on the WAFL site

Apologies if you knew and were just taking the piss with the 4 goals bit

I actually think they'll stick with the same (or minimal changes) and try and get some continuity into the side.

Doubt we have had many, if any, "no changes" over the last 24 months

Last time we had an unchanged side was after the R2 match against GWS leading into the R3 derby

Pissed the injury gods off for having such temerity and they responded

We’ll make at least one change

Re Gaff - gonna be interesting to see how MC react (or not). Might go a long to tell us what their strategy is for the rebuild. Youth or credits?
Its hard when he is on 1 million + for this year.
Having him play wafl on that coin makes the club look foolish .

Apparently that is brockmans 1 wood .
You also have cripps and long who are both very good pressure players .

Its our midfield that is slow and doesn't apply pressure.

Kelly is very 1 way . Yeo has slowed down . Gaff and Edwards don't chase and harrass at all .

Duggan is middling pace

If we want to starts pressuring in the middle it will have to be the youth because sheed is not fixing that problem.

Or you have to take quick players away from the backline or forward line and put them on the wing in Hunt cripps and hough and then replace them .

That would leave our defence very slow and our forward line inexperienced

The club looks foolish anyway.. it’s just the level that can be changed and selection integrity has to come into it..

At the end of the day we have $900,000 to a million bucks tied up into a wingman… and not a Peter matera wingman who could win games off his own boot or change games… here we have a slow guy with questionable skills who for all his good points years ago has never been a game winner or a game changer….

Its not just his pace that has changed .
He is slow to move the ball on. Never marks and goes always backs off and wastes time

He wears those career saver boots too and now can't kick past 30m

Barrass has lost a metre or two in pace since his 2018 peak, which doesn't bode well if he was playing on Hogan, but think he has to go to Cadman, with Gov going to Hogan (sad indictment when you have to hide him on a 2nd year player).

JJ has to start over Hall as has dare say it, credits in the bank over Hall.

Get Duggan out of the midfield, that experiment ain't working.

Yeo to half back, as we desperately need someone that can be semi accurate with their disposal as Witho, Duggan, Cole is a shite show that makes our back line exits be like:

I think travelling with the team can be a great experience for younger players.
Also do you want to risk playing gaff?
I'm not a gaff hater ,I remember when he was probably the best wing in the game but barring injury he shouldn't get another game in the seniors, well maybe a farewell home game against the dockers
