Did we rest a few late? I feel Meek was off a long time and Weddle and Chol did lots more rucking than usual. Nash too seemed to play less minutes and hence less ruck.

Day too.

Hopefully no issues just making sure everyone is cherry ripe for next week and no risks. Especially with Meek as Reeves didn't play at Box Hill today (anyone know why? Just listed as injured)

You might be right. Outside of the subs/injuries, these were the lowest TOGs. Worpel, Day, Watson and Ward all low.

The great thing for me was early it wasn’t going our way but it didn’t phase them at all. It was clear early in the third it was a question of how far. Was amazing that after conceding 6 first quarter goals and 2 late goals we essentially held them to 10 points for nearly 3 quarters. I’m warming to CJ although he’s still a bit fumbly but he’s doing a lot of defensive work. Ward continues to improve his run and poise will be very beneficial long term. Really liked Calsher and Chol will be better in the next year or 2 with their development and connection but hopefully playing as 2/3 forwards if we can find an F1. Day great early when we needed him and CMac superb. Overall crushed the opposition as we should given form and who they had out but it was more emphatic than I thought a really professional performance.

Reeves back issue has flared up again.

Calsher has this incredible ability to work his way to the front of the pack. What he's added as the year goes on is his third and fourth efforts at ground level. He's a first year player so very slight but what he is bringing to our forward line is an absolute competitor in the air.

Weddle is honestly our best draft pick for a long time in my opinion. He can play anywhere, we've seen him do stints forward, on the wing, down back and in the ruck and he has done his job wherever we've needed him. An absolute weapon to have that level of versatility.

There's a lot to like about the side at the moment, but last night out spread of disposals was impressive. Only 2 players had under 10 touches, one being the Sub. That's a scary thing for opposition teams as suddenly we are unpredictable and harder to shut down. I think the coaches would be most pleased about that spread.

How was Brereton's classic bit of commentary, claiming "I've never seen Hawthorn play a footy match" or something to that effect. I think his exact words were something like... "Will Day is slightly built and easy to tackle. That's a poor effort."

I hate that white strip but loved the performance in it.

My favourite jumper, I’ve worn it while watching every game this year, but I forgot yesterday and put it on at quarter time.
I’m not superstitious but how do I not wear it for the rest of the year now?😂

On another note, how many times did the Crows supporters lament that 2019 draft yesterday. Will ****ing Day is a star!

A really dumb one from Dermie...

Symptomatic of his tendency of opening his mouth without thinking, secure in his belief that a telling insight will magically come forth while the words pour out...

Day is probably our most important clearance beast for that reason alone. Get it to Day from the guts and you know he'll work his way clear, creating far more creative fwd 50 entries. But this has been the case for 2 seasons. (Just that last season we struggled to get it in the guts to affect that particular juicy play.) Now we seem to be doing it far more regularly. How has he missed that?

His ability to get his arms free when being tacked is next level also. Even if an opponent gets to him if he doesn’t break the tackle he’ll still find a way to get the handball off. Generally a decent one to a teammate that’s not a hospital pass also - absolute freak.

Nick's said the Crows were "as bad as we've been for years" about their loss to the boys yesterday. It's funny how many coaches say that about losses to the Hawks, like there isn't some common denominator.
He said the same thing when we played them a couple of months ago. Refused to give us any credit for the win and blamed their "worst quarter in years".

He's having a hard time accepting the way we play and our form is forcing them to play this bad.

I was thinking about that and included the other pressers. Opposition coaches lamenting how badly they've played etc etc . They're missing the point, they probably played to their normal standards, it's just that the Hawks were better. There's one footy in the game, if we have it, you don't.
Hawthorn went away from their normal game v Port and it cost them. As always, the Cats had the perfect storm go their way with injuries and home ground. Cats rely on the opposition turning it over and we obliged. We've since stopped obliging.
