I don’t think he’s slow, but he’s not fast. I don’t think he can’t kick, but I don’t think it’s a strength either. He’s a very likeable vanilla, unfortunately. I pray he can develop more weapons somehow.

Players like Poulter need to play consistently at senior level, to build that confidence, and also get that hardened AFL body to contest at the level.

I must admit l have been disappointed with the team selections of the current coaches. They seem to be sticking with basically the same selection criteria of last season, and that is the tried and tested, and not given the opportunities to and consistently play Macrae, Poulter, McInnes etc, and continue with players that just aren't performing at senior level....

I just think it's that Macrae can't provide an AFL level contest. McInness can't sustain one. Poulter is the one they could give games to in terms of being able to sustain effort, but at the moment, he too often looks rushed and dump kicks it in the VFL - let alone the AFL.

I think you have to be realistic, a new coach who isn’t just an interim guy isn’t going to call it quits on a season at 4-5. If we are 5-9 at the bye, selection policy should shift for the remainder of the season to ensure McIness/Poulter/Macrae/Henry/Ginnivan/McCreery/Dean play every game they’re fit for.

He's as slow as a wet week and can't kick over a jam tin.

2 attributes you can't have as a winger.

You and I infer different meaning from that saying. Poulter can kick the ball 60m. Cal Brown can’t kick over a jam tin.

Pendles
Elliot
Grundy
Ginnivan

Roughie & Krueger who are structurally important.

All out.

Gastro impacting training over the last couple of weeks.

The doggies midfield was stacked, ours much less so. Couldn't recover from the 1st quarter onslaught.

Showed some fight in the second but overall it was a shite performance regardless of who took the field for the Pies. No hiding from that.

There will be more weeks like this but this team will come good.

Ollie has a 5 goal game in him, some of our important outs will be back over the next few weeks, and the side will play some impressive games.

This bloke has all the tools, he just needs to believe in himself.

Should handcuff him to Tonic and see if the confidence can rub off on him.

I think Fly intimated as much about Ollie i.e. it's between the ears for him; just has to click.

Lucky Hayden Ballantyne has retired. Imagine what he would have done to the inside of Henry's head?

One of the most punchable faces in the world.

I like the look of Poulter and I think his 'weapon' could be to run all day long. Too often we get exposed because of our zone defence and not enough cattle to crowd up the midfield. If he can develop his running, get to the right spots and provide pressure then I think he could be a useful winger.

Henry will be right. Keep working on his run-up, stop bouncing up and down and find a solid repeatable routine and he will do well. He seems to kick better now when he doesn't have time to think, so clearly it's just a set shot gremlin sitting on his shoulder.

It's McCreery I worry about, he doesn't seem to find enough of it for someone who provides pressure acts. I'd also like to see him lead and create space for the other forwards but he goes missing way too often.

I'm a bit of a softie and I've always held some optimism for Callum Brown but I had to concede he was plain awful on Friday night and I can't see him ever being anything other than a VFL player. He has no composure, no penetration in his kicking and a terrible tackler.

Fair point about Beau.

His work-rate is high (easier to see that at the ground vs TV). I believe he will become very important once he learns how to be more consistent across 4 quarters.

Physically he is very powerful. Almost uniquely so for his size.

Moreso than Sicily?

Computer says "Yes".

Beau gets himself into very good spots and doesn't get used. So his stats reflect very poorly.
Once he does, his numbers will go up significantly.
He does an incredible amount of team things that never show on the stats sheet.

I don't ever take stats too seriously. But Beau is one whose impact on a game is almost at the polar opposite end to his stats!

Very Varcoe like

This is my take when I've watched him play at the ground. TV and stats don't mirror this.

I'm happy to offlay $20 that says you're wrong on that call. (I agree that he shouldn't, but odds on he will)

Look, you might be right.

But, what more do Fly and his assistants need to see of Cal at AFL level, that they haven't already? He's not even remotely close to being up to it. You're doing the young lad a disservice by continuing to select him.

*** You're doing the young lad a disservice by continuing to select him.

It boils down to this. Sadly.

Can't let any player take the field when they view possession of the ball as a burden as opposed to an opportunity.

I think that the coaching staff wanted to try him in specific roles, but those haven't worked out. I would be surprised if he plays much more senior footy for the remainder of the season....
