One thing I look at is tackles and disposals, they had 100 more disposals and one more tackle.

That’s not good.

I try to look at positives especially this year. Henry was in the right place a lot, just didn’t kick the goal. They can work on that.
Didn't kick five goals he should have kicked

Missed Ginnivan’s confidence in front of goal. Felt we just needed one to gain some inside 50 composure. Unfortunately it came too late.

Macrae and Poulter looked like they’d played VFL for two months. That’s on the selection panel. Poulter was better late I’d give them another run.

Tyler Brown’s best senior game?

I hated what I saw from Henry. That missed kick to stationary Degoey in the first quarter had C Brown Written all over it.

I know he’ll come good but was a momentum killer tonight.

Yeah. Had an off night. Could potentially have had 5-6 goals for the night. If we'd gone into 1/4 time a lot more even I reckon its a different game. Cest la vie.

This game was a reality check, It shows what the new coaching group and administration have inherited if they did do something this year (they won’t ) they would be able to write and open cheque for themselves (Geez we pay the guy who won the medal tonight, tells you a lot about state of club in 2020/2021)

Our problem is where are we at we are not young, so players like Roughead (31), Jamie Elliot (30) next year), WHE(28), Sidebottom(31), Adams(28) and even Howe (31) do we keep in my opinion, only if we think we can win a flag in next 2 yrs which we can’t. It seems like we are even a step back from Hawthorn as they are genuinely younger team. And Darcy Moore lots of natural talent is he a key Defender? Seems to me we wasted or mismanaged from 2012 to 2021 (2018 being the only standout) and now unless the current coaching or admin group work a miracle this year it is going to be a tough few years. I for one back the new guys for a few years to see what they can do. If we were willing to give the last group(a club legend and his mates) 8-10 and end up in a mess these guys deserve a few years.

Henry shows something, Ginnivan, Beau Mccreary all seem like they might be ok but have to find more, but this is first year of rebuild of and old side.

Need to find that balance of young and old though. Brad Scott gutted north and they’ve been floundering for years…. I don’t know if I want to do that big a stint at the bottom.

How will we structure up in defense next week with Kelly still out for a few weeks and no height left to draw upon?

put Mihocek back, go mainly small in the forward line, not sure if Elliott available
drop Begg, bring in Cox to play ruck, Cameron to the forward line
deGoey forward, N Daicos centre, Sidebottom in the middle, Adams to half back

just something different

It is the 1997 game plan that worked for 6 weeks until it was worked out and then there was nothing.

All out attack at any cost is just infantile and stupid.

The coaching panel from hell.

We attacked at all costs for about five minutes in the last quarter and actually looked half decent.

We chipped it around slowly and kept spare men behind the ball for 95% of the game and looked like flaming garbage.

I think you have a bit of an agenda against this coaching group.

Maybe debut McMahon? The likely change is that Ruscoe comes in a plays a third tall role, hope he does well tomorrow.
From memory the Freo side has a couple of smaller quicker type plus Walters, hope we try something.

But that is why it is a stupid game plan.

Tough balance to find. The doggies ate us up early when we moved the ball fast.

That passage late in the game when he ran too far was truly staggering given he had no pressure coming from behind

Couldn't be any worse than tonight.

Really angry tonight - at the footy gods who keep hitting us with injuries and illness, at Treloar for playing well against us, for our ‘champions’ who keep dishing up shitty games, at the trams that were too packed to get on after the game, at the next three or four games for being impossible to win.

I’m not angry at Lippa, in fact I’ve come around and am very pleased we have him. I’m also not angry at Johnny Noble or N Daicos.

But I’m just really flipping angry tonight.

This is nothing new. Happens almost every year (home game v WB/NM/StK at Marvel) due to contractual requirements.

I understand (but don’t agree with) contractual requirements to play 2 home games there a year …

… but does it need to be against Marvel tenants?

True, but the doggies just destroyed our mids at the contest early, I'm not sure any game plan could have saved us. We lost every centre clearance, had fewer than half the contested possessions in Q1, and refused to lay a tackle.

It's what we were doing (or more accurately, failing to do) when we didn't have the ball that was killing us. Painful to watch.
