I still think Curtin is not a mid. IMO he's a forward moving up and down the flanks. More like the old Tom Lynch role.

We'd be better off delisting Curtin now if that's the case. That role breaks more than its worth unless you're running four key talls.

??? How so?
It's largely a redundant role in modern footy, and really it didn't work for us either in the scheme of things.

It COULD work if he makes it as a CB midfielder,

The way I see it, post Tex we're likely to play a 2 tall front 6 with 2 players rotating through CB, a small forward and a high half forward.

We need players connecting across the field.

ANB & Cumming are great gets in this regard.

But Curtin can also play a decent role in this regard with his leg.

Yeah I get that.

He has a role to play, but I don't think it's as a full time forward
What has been suggested is someone who floats between forward & wing... particularly when Tex is rested... not a set key forward (who would be Thilthorpe & Fogarty).

While he's key position size, that's not how he plays, or should be played.

I like the idea of high half forward, pushing up the ground into contests. He's not an outside player, so if he played wing I suspect that it would be how Soligo played wing: straight into the contest as soon as the ball is bounced.

I'm hesitant to go against the narrative, but IMO Curtin is not good in tight and doesn't particularly like contact.
Perhaps protecting the knee may have had something to do with it, but it was noticeable to me this year.
Yeah, we shouldn't trust the bodywork of 2-3 game players .....I mean they should be better than 100-200 game seasoned players, don't you agree

Jokes aside .....do you think in hindsight this was an appropriate comment ....Nicks himself said Curtin had a lot to work on, particularly his footwork in the midfield ....and his positioning

But 18 YO 197cm are so far from the finished product ......you guys scream abuse because Curtin is played in the SANFL ...but then criticise him for not being Bontempelli yet

BTW, if you watch the last Qtr against the Bulldogs (game #5) his bodywork showed a big improvement, to setup a goal

I saw him get turned inside out due to lack of athleticism. Hence why he isn’t a defender. He lumbers around. As you do at that height though. If he can get his tank up, perhaps he can play wing or roaming half forward
OK .....so you call Curtin a lumberer, and therefore you say he can't play DEF .....but in the next breath you say he should play WING, where apparently being a lumberer is not an issue

I'm gobsmacked at that POV

If you've watched any football closely, most rookies in their first year look slow and a step off the pace .....it's only a second off, playing still at SANFL / State League pace ....but it makes you look slow

It's very common with most rookies ....and remember Curtin only played 7 games, and was only starting to find his feet in the last couple of games

2nd years are usually a stark difference .... players' are more accustomed to playing at AFL pace ....which makes them look quicker

Just think about any sport you've played, and how long it takes to adjust to speed & pressure differences, as you go up thru the levels

Wtf ? He got turned inside out by forwards. I made the point he’s not athletic enough for certain positions. That’s far from trolling. He’s far from proven. Fact.
He did, but he wasn't too far away from that not being the case.

He is far from proven, but showed enough that I'm confident that he'll be great. Time will tell.

Tim Gossage and Scotty Cummings just two weeks ago in discussing Curtin's future on their radio show, declared a) he's very happy in Sth Aust ..b) he'll be a champion player, such is his talent

There was no reason for them to speak with such fervor

There is no reason for writing off Curtin at this point in time.

Clearly has talent.

Hopefully not hampered by injury this year.
