I guess the other way we could try that is to draft a small defender and then play them in that role rather than draft a midfielder with the intent of playing them as one.

Also we should occasionally try and draft a small forward rather than a ton of small midfielders and then play them as small forwards.
Dynamic small forward Benny Barrett is there for the taking this draft, just have to NAB him before pick 40. Pretty sure he's eligible for Port as an NGA

Were you surprised he didn’t play the first game for SA, who was the small forward who ended up kicking 2-3 goals in the end Bradley? have you followed his form much this year?

Yes and yes.

Evan Bradley was preferred.

Probably because Barrett has played a fair bit of midfield earlier in the season with Sid Draper MIA, spent a bit more time forward the last couple of weeks and again hitting the scoreboard.

Doubt he'll be drafted as a a midfielder but unlike Tariek Newchurch this lad has a thirst for the contest something similar to Charlie Cameron and probably as quick and agile.

Well we'll never ever get to find out will we, not as long as top up players are preferred in prime SANFL positions that should be taken by developing AFL draftees. Jay Boyle sure as hell will never ever ever ever play AFL, stick him in the back pocket.
But then we'll have Bond who'll never be a mid and Boyle who'll never be a back pocket?

At least Bond MIGHT be a back pocket

Didn't Bond play the u/18 carnival as a small defender?

That may have been what we saw and liked

Kristof obviously didn't watch the SANFL 1st round game against South where Hugh Bond most definitely spent time in the midfield, hence his 6 clearances, most certainly didn't accrue those 6 clearances playing back pocket.
So - one game in his entire time here?

And the rest of the time, we've tried to give him the opportunity to become a solid role player. We obviously don't see him having any future as a mid.

Who?

The coaches or the work experience kids that write our articles?
They're not (usually) work experience kids. They're "journalists" employed by the AFL, who usually have no special insight into the club(s) they're writing about. Exceptions obviously for actual media releases made by the club, but general AFL articles are not written by anyone with any connection to the club. They're no better informed, and are often worse informed, than posters here on BF.

Bullshit, he's played a total of 22 games since being drafted after missing a big stretch of games with injury.

He's a midfielder through and through, at a max he's played 3 games as mid in that time.

Had a very good game in round 1 against South playing solely midfield then banished to the back pocket ever since where all he's got to show for it is sunburn on the roof off his mouth watching the ball sail over his head through the goal/point posts. Meanwhile a top up player with zero chance of ever getting on an AFL list Jay Boyle hogs midfield/on ball minutes ahead of our young developing mids who might actually have an AFL career.

Charlie Edwards also. We used a first round pick on him FFS.

How can you call bullshit on "we obviously don't see him as a mid"?

Weren't you the one after he was drafted that highlighted his work as a defender in the nationals?

Yeah he played defence at the Nationals because you know not all the midfielders in the squad could be fitted in team selected for the games. Happens every Nationals where squads are laden with midfielders, hell even Harley Reid the best player in the VC squad played other roles in games back and forward . Hugh Bond is a midfielder, the role he played in every game with distinction coming through the junior pathway at the Rebels.

It's OK to question the lad's development as a player since joining the Crows especially one I have a particular interest in Mr. Mego Red 🍒, I really don't need your permission.

Top up Jay Boyle in the gutz....AGAIN.Top up Steve Burton named in starting midfield....has to be a joke.

AFL listed midfielders Taylor and Bond down back, better not be how they line up game day

LOL Curtin deep defence....AGAIN.

I don't think they will play like that, other than Boyle. I would expect Tahana, Sigal and Magden all to play in defence. Edwards will probably rotate mid/hbf. Clifford, Templeton and Whimpress in the forwardline. Taylor midfield. Pedlar half forward with short bursts through middle.

Ned McHenry playing?
