2012 Post Season - Retirements and delistings (list changes) thread

Jesus Christ.

Banner I knew was coming although it's still stupid because he performed every time he was given a go.

I was fine with Rodan leaving until Pearce left, now we have absolutely zero run and carry outside of maybe Pittard.

Delisting Surjan unless his knee is absolutely destroyed is the worst list management decision this club has ever made. Someone gets a free elite shutdown small defender.

I'm in no rush to see Salter delisted either but can't use the excuse of Surj getting delisted bc of injuries solely bc of this bloke.

I don't think there's much compassion in this game these days IMHO so if he stays don't think this would be the reason.

There'd be that plus the fact that we have a ridiculously low amount of players on our list as it is, so delisting a KPP with potential that we have ****ed around probably won't be high on the cards. Of course, after today's showings, I'm sure Salter will be delisted before Daniel Stewart.

If I was a new coach I would want to have at least one year's crack at getting D Stewart to click.

I'm quite certain I heard some interviews stating many of the Geelong guys such as Stevie J credited Hinkley for where they are now. Potentially he can see 'something' that we can't in Stewart. You'd have to look damn hard though.

At my count, we now have 23 AFL quality players on our list. And I'm not talking about good players, I'm just talking about barely AFL quality players. Three of them are ruckmen, so at least one of them will miss out on the side. Two of them play the same 'marking forward who's far too short to be a marking forward' role, and we can barely afford to have one of them in the side, let alone too.

B: P. Stewart, A. Carlile, T. Jonas
HB: H. Hartlett, J. Trengove, J. Pittard
C: M. Broadbent, K. Cornes, Brad Ebert
HF: A. Monfries, J. Westhoff, C. Wingard
F: J. Butcher, J. Schulz, M. Lobbe
R: J. Redden, T. Boak, R. Gray
Int: A. Moore, D. Pfeiffer, A. Young, ???

Taking Renouf and Brett Ebert (unless we make Monfries a full time midfielder) out of the equation for team balance reasons, who fills that last spot? Blee? Hitchcock? O'Shea? Thomas :( Logan :( D. Stewart :(

We better bring in quite a few AFL-ready players in trade week/the draft. Our depth is non-existent.

Sorry to re-quote your "team" but our depth of quality looks bloody awful.

Dermie last year said many times our best 18 has quality and is as good as any outside the top 4. But your best 18 get injured and suspended and you need about 32 - 35 good AFL players during a season.

I guess that's sort of to be expected after winning as few games as we have in the past 24 months. But really its doesnt have significantly less depth than it had 24 hours ago.

Man, we're gonna need to pick up some experienced/semi experienced players over the next week or two.

I'd hope we bring in Gillies, Young and possibly Greenwood.

Those are my 3 +/- Russell.

Gillies and Greenwood should be achievable. Young unlikely, given that Collingwood will chase him hard and will be far more attractive to him.

I would've had about 15 players delisted before Surj though that's the problem. I don't have a problem with any other delistings but Surj I thought was one of the better players this year. We looked better in defence this year when he played.

LOL.

Banner > Ebert
Surjan > Logan

Seems legit.

Clearly not otherwise Surjan and Banner would not have been delisted and Ebert and Logan would probably be searching for new homes.

As devastated as I am about Surjan being delisted, I can absolutely understand it. I still would hate to see him playing for another club but that looks like a reality now. It looks to me that the club had a choice between Surjan and Logan and they've chosen Logan. Without a doubt, Surjan is the better player so why delist him and keep Logan? I don't know the answer but I can hazard a few guesses. By his own admission, Surjan completely lacked any form of application in 2011 which ultimately cost him the vice-captaincy. Prior to 2011 there was the well documented rift with Motlop, no doubt a major contributor to the player in-fighting we heard so much about. In 2012 Surjan returned to peak form but a injury midway through the season ultimately ended his season. These negative factors in combination probably put Surjan behind Logan. Now lets look at Logan. Die hard attitute, works incredibly hard, leaves nothing behind, finished top 3 in the BnF in 2011 when played as a small defender, takes nothing for granted.

For all the potential Banner has, his downfall was always his lack of defensive accountability. Could barely crack a game at SANFL league level at 2 different clubs in his 4th year in the system. Had to go. Brett Ebert for all his faults, was able to hold his spot all through 2012 at AFL level once he earned his promotion in Round 8.

I think these are good changes. Unfortunately for Surj it seems that his body is letting him down as time goes on, otherwise I would've been happy to keep him. Ruthless call but in my opinion the right one. Banner was OK but he didn't have much speed and went missing a lot. I would've added Hitchcock to that list as well.

Good signs from the new coaches. The best thing about these moves, apart from clearing out some deadwood, is that it sends a message to the others to do more or suffer a similar fate next year.

Everyone is expendable.

No f@#king around.

I like it.

In Hink we trust.

Yep. But our best 22 does have major holes in it based on "best displayed form" of the options we have.

Now, if O'Shea, Pittard, Moore, Newton, AhChee, Blee......all hit their straps and improve out of sight next year, we're suddenly looking much better.

Lmao what are you smoking man bc clearly the smokescreen in front of your eyes is hindering your vision.

9th in BnF in 2010, 3rd in 2011.

Clearly the club thinks he did a pretty good job those years.

Well this guy clearly kills the argument that the only reason why Surj was delisted is because he couldn't get in the park as often due to injuries.

Salter stays right now due to neccessity. Wait and see who else we pick up with FA. If we get for eg. Gilham and Gillies then Id say Salter goes. If we dont pick up any KPDs then Salter will stay. We cant go into a season with 2 experienced KPDs.

Thing is, we bag Chappy yet look at his finishes in our B & F.

THe only thing Stewart lacks is intensity. Hinkley is a development master. I have no issues at all with him having a crack at getting Stewart to improve. Hes almost there. Good contested mark, relatively quick. Just needs intensity.

Hinkley was able to turn Mooney from a laconic part time forward/part time ruck who got suspended every 3 weeks to an AA premiership player in the space of one off season. Stevie J went from a talented laconic half forward who was 10 minutes away from being traded to a Norm Smith Medallist AA in the space of 12 months.

Im all for Hinkley having a crack at under performing players he thinks he can get something out of.

Delisting Banner is a pretty shocking choice... Maybe we will rookie him?

Keeping Logan over Surjan seems a marginal choice at best as well. Other than that I'm fine with those delistings.

Drops uncontested marks, poor kick for goal, useless in a contest, no physical presence, poor positioning, dumb footy brain, bad hair cut.
