Autopsy 53 point win against GCS

I think Amartey played a great game today. He contested everything. His leading patterns were great. I am a bit pissed off that he had a couple of great leads ignored in favour of Paps on a far bigger opponent.

His second efforts are really great. He seems to be getting a bit angry so I think he is starting to get it. Aggression used at ball and player within the rules is a good thing. I think he is a huge talent. All the forwards did well. Wilbur did a job but why they shifted him off Lucosious (???) I don't know because that freed him up.

Game was tough against a decent gold coast outfit. Umpires were far too involved in the game which made it a bit of a stop start affair.
Heeney again our b.o.g . Lot of good contributions from Roberts , Melican , Grundy , Amartey and Adams. Can't really say that anyone had a real stinker (waiting for the Hayward comments). McLean when he was in the ruck against Witts went really well his rucking is underated.
Need to start to try and slow the game down when the opposition gets going , again looking at over playing our hand in the second quarter.
Gulden playing 97 per cent game time is nuts no wonder he was gassed in the last couple of minutes. Especially when we had such a decent lead in the last quarter surely you give him a spell ?
Still room for more improvement but a really solid win.

Grundy showed how valuable it is to have a big mobile ruck who can influence around the ground. 11 tackles says it all. BOG for me.

Melican was a rock in defence and I hope we re-sign him in the face of some interest elsewhere.

Florent was great. Excellent defensively and offered good drive out of defence.

Our midfield all had their moments and besides the second quarter, had good intent and effort.

Forwards kicked truly.

All up, a solid win for what could've been a banana skin game.

Still reckon Gold Coast are a good side and generally a bad match up for us. Which makes today's performance all the more impressive.

Thought Adams did some very good things, particularly in the first quarter, hopefully he's building his fitness for the
rest of the season. Was also impressed with Errol's tackling late when the game was in the bag.

Credit to Horse, he had them well prepared today.

Nice win! Nice ladder position with good percentage that reflects our place!

Grundy play a blinder for his 200th; Heeney excellent again; Melican, Florent & Roberts all very good again.

All in all, for this early in the season, we are tracking very nicely! Plenty to work on, good depth including Rampe, Parker and Mills, room to build and grow. I'd like one more tall defender, but you can't have everyone...

Onwards to Victory!

Did not expect that going into HT after being dominated in the 2nd quarter.

3rd and 4th quarter was a big statement i feel leading with the way with Grundy, Heeney and Gulden Blakey had a much better 2nd half as well after turning it over repeatedly in the 2nd.

When we get the game on our terms and the opposition cant apply enough pressure we absolutely carve teams up through the middle.

Question mark still on the side is facing a team that can apply sustained pressure for 4 quarters but cant complain with 5-1.
Good thing no team in the comp can apply sustained pressure for 4 qtrs.

Feels so much better that we've turned second half slumps into domination.

we beat an improving gold coast, one of our real bogey teams of recent years, by 53 points and held them to under 60 points ... and there's still so much doom and gloom on this board ...
in terms of a response to our stuttering form going into the bye, that was a terrific response pretty much across the board
blakey, melican, roberts and florent were excellent in defence and we managed to stop the likes of rowell, miller and the dangerous humphrey having any decisive influence on the result
grundy was fantastic, adams the same
heeney, gulden, warner and mcinerney contributed, papley stepped up, and amartey's game was far more than just four goals
i was very wary of this game, but it a very encouraging result and performance

as for gameday thread comments about "we can't win a premiership because ...", this was our sixth game, we're 5-1 and it's april ... we don't need to be good enough to win premierships now ... but we're very much going the right way

Apart from the 2nd quarter lapse that was a pretty comprehensive performance. Heeney sensational again, Grundy making a huge difference and Blakey cutting the opposition up. Huge kudos to Roberts who now looks at home in the backline. Was impressed with how Amartey used hard work and effort to reinsert himself in the game. Thought McInerney, Ollie and JJ had very good games as well. Gulden and Warner both worked their way into it as the second half went on. Paps a much better performance as captain today.

If we bring the pressure against Hawthorn they will collapse like a house of cards.

No More Cornrows on game day Joel.

Plays so much better with the fro out.

Haywards holding the ball in the second half set the tone for that 7 goal quarter.

Chad lifted in the second and J Mac is having a pretty underrated year so far. Looks far more dangerous
I agree... J Mac has had a really good start to the year! Makes me think he's been carrying an injury for a while and recovered fully over the off season...

Needs more love, very underrated at the moment!
