Seriously, is that the biggest choke of the year? Draper missed a sitter, Langford missed a pretty easy one and Caddy tried too hard to be the hero rather than going the percentage play which would likely have iced the game. Horrid lack of composure from Essendon.

But what a win for Adelaide! Given the heartache they've suffered for the last two years this was a really good win. Huge second quarter, then played really smart in the 4th to pull it off when Essendon looked like icing it.

What a game though.

Life in the Dodo yet.

A bit of lairizing here, a bit of panic there.
Some complacency, some reckless decisions. And pissed away a defendable lead.

Good game though. Thoroughly enjoyed momentum swings.

Will Essendon perform the biggest choke job of 2024 and make it back-to-back after 2023 choke?

Lacking in leadership, I reckon... They had everything going for them tonight.
  • Home crowd, home ground...
  • Hometown umpiring....
  • Adelaide 2 men down after half time
  • Motivation of finishing in the top 4 and playing finals
  • Momentum of 7 successive goals in 3rd quarter...
  • Still had the lead with under a minute remaining
If only Andy McGrath had contained the much-maligned Josh Rachele and smothered that final snap for goal.

Oh well.. Bummer!

They can still make the Top 8 from here. But they're putting themselves under a lot of pressure.

I'm not sure what more the Bombers could have hoped for. Wounded opponent, favourable umpiring, smugly adoring crowd.

36k for a supposed top 4 contender under a roof on Friday night with a big chunk of oppo supporters in attendance.

Pretty poor really

Momentum changed when Caldwell.went off

What? Momentum changed when Adelaide lost 2 of our 3 key defenders - Murray and Butts - in the first half. It allowed Essendon's forwards to run rampant against wingers trying to defend tall units, and they capitalised on unbelievably biased umpiring.
