If we were to get a player instead of a F2 thatd be awesome.

Ward clearly isnt part of their best 22, hed be ideal. Probably a little undersized as an inside mid but the Hawks have no need for him. I think hes in the same areas as Chesser where hes been stuck playing a role hes not really suited to out on a wing.

What about Reeves? He played very well covering the Hawks ruck last year, is 210cm tall and aged 25. Probably suffered and fell back behind Meek this year due to the ruck rule changes, but still would be a solid pick and would allow us to offload BWilliams for pick 40ish.

Not much else there I think the Hawks would be willing to part with who is worth noticably more than a F2

Yes , Ward might be injury but hardly played this season , may not have the pace to play in Hawks game plan.
Academically gifted student so got some good options post footy , won't be heading West ......

A little bit of info on the Barrass situation from a source I trust, feel free to attach whatever weight you wish to the following:

Both Barrass and Eagles are happy to deal with any VIC club, preferably one with finals on the radar.

Hawks and Eagles are well down the road in discussions. Hawks have agreed a potential trade would include their 1R pick and have also (short of going 0-3 and finishing 13th) offered their F2. Eagles have asked for a player of value instead of the F2 (i.e. NOT DGB).

Also,

WCE_phil BOND 007 this true?

Let's have an insiders roundtable.

The other option with the Barrass to Hawthorn trade re the F2/player component is to find a third club that would take Hawthorn’s F2 for a player we’re interested in

So maybe Garcia from the Bulldogs as an example

I know it was just an example but topically the same source has said Garcia and English WBD deals are done, with an announcement before the end of the season.

I can’t see any Hawks player of value being convinced to come over bar possibly Reeves if we assure him he’ll be #1 ruck. I’d love MacKenzie but that’s a pipe dream. Asking for the Pies 2R makes the most sense.

I’d be ok with F2. We have 2 NGA and 1 FS prospect next year so useful. We can also look at trading with Suns who would trade this or our F2 for decent picks this year

Sheldrick 36 Ds in the ressie tonight. Pyke would have a fair evaluation of him. Hard to see where he plays for the Swans in the AFL.

Would love him next year but he would have to push it.

Someone we should be targeting.

If we’re matching early bids next year the picks won’t slide as far which is good. Does sound like the strategy is picks this year as to not delay the development by a year into next year’s draft.

If that’s the intent that potentially opens up a world of possibilities with our F1. If Ryan is exploring his options, a move to GCS and our F1 would hold huge appeal to them and could beef up this year’s draft hand immensely.

I’d be happy with that but ideally the F2 becomes this year R2 as stated

So Lachie Schultz is a first rounder right? Liam Ryan beats his ass

History tells us otherwise with later picks. I've heard that chestnut a few times over the years. We should be trying to get multiple picks in the top 15.

If we come out with 3 or 4 picks in the top 15 we have done extremely well.

I'm not sure on the order with academy picks but roughly something like this.
Split pick 2 for pick 5&12
Barrass for pick 10 and 21

On trade pick 21 and our 2nd rnd pick for pick 13

Ryan for pick 11. We could throw in a late 3rd if we think its worth it.

Come out with pick 5,10,11,12

Last year there was a clear top 3. And a next teir.

Not so this year.

Names keep bouncing in and out of the top 20.

If we cut hard and the 10+ list changes actually happens, we wont have many to delist next year. F1 into this year might be a good move.
Wed only need 3 spots for the draft, which is a f/s and 2 nga kids we can match anyway, dont need early picks necessarily.

Who is there to lose next year?
Cripps, Sheed maybe, Darling, Gov?, Petch, Jamieson.
Gov might play on another year but we only need 3 of the rest which is very easy to achieve. If we cut more then we can find a FA or something idk.

We have 36 main list right now, can have up to 38 I believe? (Already counted Gaff)
Rotham, LEdwards, JJ, Witho is 4 main list spots, cut Rawlinson and Culley gives us the ability to have 2 more.
Lose Barrass is 7, lose Ryan is 8. Payout both of Jamo and Sheed is 10 main list spots.
Cut Baker/Trew to give us a rookie spot if we need

We have 3, 23, 59.
-Add 9, F2 for Barrass
-Trade F1 and Ryan for 6, 11, 20 from GC
-3, 23 for 10, 13, 16 from Freo (part of 3 way with Tigers for Bolton- Tigers get 3 for Bolton, Freo get 23 and Bolton for 10, 13, 16, we get 10, 13, 16 for 3, 23).
-16 for 24, F2 from Stkilda(24 is a better pick for a KPD)
-20 for Baker.
-F4 for Clurey(heard we have been linked, KPD depth for a couple years)
-Graham free agent

Leaves us with 6, 9, 10, 11, 13, 24, 59-- 7 picks -Lalor, Langford, Travaglia, Allan, Berry, Mraz, Champion for example
Add in Baker, Graham and Clurey-- 3 players
Could trade any of those picks for players if one pops up.
10 list additions, plus a rookie maybe if we want to dump Baker or Trew too

Lose our F1 and F4 but gain a F2 from Hawks and F2 from Stkilda, should be easy enough to match any bids.

I think the trades are somewhat fair, just need everybody to be interested.

Not appealing at all.

Is there another club who can offer a better trade?
Dogs have apparently offered their F1, other teams are interested but I’m not aware of the details of their offers. If it lands on pick 9/10 and pick 28 for Barrass given he’s contracted for 3 years I think that’s fair.
