Hearing tonight that something big may be in the works involving Melbourne, Gold Coast and Adelaide.

Apparently along the lines of:

GainLose
MelbourneF1 (Adelaide), R1 (Gold Coast) 6*, R2 (Brisbane) 34*Petracca, Neal-Bullen, R4 (Melbourne) 61*
Gold CoastPetracca, R4 (Adelaide) 60*, R4 (Melbourne) 61*Lukosius, R1 (Gold Coast) 6*, R2 (Brisbane) 34*
AdelaideLukosius, Neal-BullenF1, R4 (Adelaide) 60*

Melbourne want to get a best-22 player under age 25 as part the deal though (J.Rachele and M.Andrew named as preferred), however if they can use the pick 6 from Gold Coast to gain B.Smith from the Bulldogs it will be good enough for them.

That said, the same source this is coming from was also adamant that Buddy Franklin was going be at Gold Coast in 2024, so take it all with a rather large pinch of salt.

“But what does appeal to Petracca is the prospect of - if he did end up leaving - playing for a big Melbourne club, that’s a tick - with a big base and big resources.

“He wants leadership from the top office. He wants a training base – he’s never liked going out to Casey.”

I very much doubt he's going to agree to go to GC

Interesting. If I had a choice between Petracca and Rioli for pick 6, I'm taking Petracca every day of the week. That's not a bad trade for all involved. Adelaide probably can't afford to part with a first rounder but I don't see how they get all of Lukosius, ANB and Draper this offseason without some sacrifice.

Saw this on the Richmond board screen grabbed from Footy Classified. I'll legit spew if we give up a pick in the teens for Baker...no bloody shot.

Broad pick 20 to 25. Try 35 to 40 if that.

Baker. Late 1st early 2nd. 23 and afuture 3rd max I would pay. And even then Im not happy.

Rioli. Isnt worth pick 6 but thats what they will do.

Bolton. Yep two 1sts.

Tom Lynch. They should need to add a pick to Lynch just to get rid of taahat $1 million plus salary. Should retire. Anyone using a pick on him are idiots.

If Tigers hold pick 1, 6, 7, 12 and 16 it will be interesting if they are interested in upgrading to pick 3.

3 plus our future 2nd for 6, 7 and Baker. Likely need to add something else.

We get say 12 and Hawks F2nd for Barrass.

Live picks

6 >7 Lalor
7 > 8 Travagalia
12 >14 Lindsay or Berry
23 > 27 M Whitlock
40 ish Champion bid

Still have a 1st and 2nd rounders in 2025.

I just dont see us getting Travagalia with the Hawks 1st, 12 > 14 . So if we want him its either at pick 3 > 4 or we split it.

Even if you could guarantee that it were Pick 1, I wouldn’t trade this year’s Pick 3 for next year’s Pick 1. For 99% of teams in AFL history, pulling the trigger on that is such a no brainer. It’s a two spot upgrade for free, and next year’s kid sounds great. Sadly, given everything we’ve sat through, we are the 1% of football teams.

We need a kid in the door now. We have nowhere near enough substance in the 22-30 age bracket. Our heavy lifters are at either end, and we’re on two clocks. 1) when Yeo/Gov slow down and stop being able to do some major work, and 2) when Reid needs to commit to this program. This isn’t some “he’s leaving back to Vic” woe is us crap, it’s just a fact - he’s on a three year deal and has 17 other suitors across the league who would trade anything for him.

We need a kid in the door now to build rapport, to show some gradual improvement, and to be further along in their development when the time comes for them to truly step up. Our midfield mix is disgraceful - we have a rotation of three mids and Liam Duggan. It’s 2024 and we’re trying to run out games with, essentially, no midfield options beyond the starting group. That’s before you get to the fact that our third best mid isn’t a mid but a HFF/mid rotation, forced to play the role of extractor and distributor in the thinnest midfield group in footy.

Get a kid in now. They're good kids by the sounds, not Reid calibre but reliable kids who will have ample opportunity in whatever role they want. Show the fans that there’s life after Gov and Yeo, show Harley that something is building now, not ‘trust us it’s worth it this next kid in your contract year will be great.’ And all of this is before the inherit and major risk of it not actually being Pick 1.

Just take the pick.
But didn’t you hear? Next year is a superdraft!

Even though Gary Lyon is a knob, he was adamant tonight that Petracca would "not be traded under any circumstances".

You could see again he was filthy that it was even being discussed.

There's a lot to play out I guess.
Good to see Gary Lyon is now understanding what Billy Brownless was feeling!

With our expected list changes and hopefully a whole bunch of top 40 picks this year I'd pencil us in for bottom next year anyway, but it will be one of those wooden spoon seasons where we're mostly a bunch of under 25s showing real improvement.

Of the 658 players to play AFL this year, the breakdown per position was:

1724710380581.png

Of the 40 WCE players to play this year, this is our breakdown:
1724710401897.png

Rank By Position
Below is how our players ranked amongst every AFL player in their position:

Key Defender (79 players): Gov (2nd), Barrass (5th), H.Edwards (47th), Jamieson (69th), Bazzo (72nd).

Med Defender (130 players): Duggan (45th), Witherden (57th), Cole(69th), Hough(100th), Johnston(119th), Rotham(125th).

Ruck (39 players): B.Williams (25th), Flynn (30th), Barnett (39th).

Mid (162 players): Yeo (23rd), Kelly (26th), Reid (54th), Hunt (76th), Ginbey (79th), Trew(125th), Chesser (134th), Gaff (136th), Sheed(150th), Hall (151st).

Mid/Forward (41 players): Maric (29th), L.Edwards (36th), Culley (38th).

Med Forward (125 players): Cripps (19th), Ryan (24th), Petruccelle (73rd), Brockman (84th), Dewar (89th), Long (103rd), Jones (108th), Rawlinson (124th).

Key Forward (82 players): Waterman (6th), J.Williams (37th), Darling (42nd), Allen (43rd), Hutchinson (60th).

Mids and Med Def are screaming out for some love, which would be greatly assisted with the arrival of Draper and Travaglia in the draft.

Both Baker & Graham, who we are heavily linked to, are viewed as Mid/Forwards. Baker is rated as the 2nd best Mid/Fwd & Graham is ranked 12th best. They would certainly assist our depth.

My next post I will go over players by their age.

Dangerous thoughts that'll get you blocked around these parts(if not for mod privileges)...

Because in the last four games he's played, when Ross Lyon stopped being Ross Lyon and actually played him in the midfield he's been awesome, despite missing weeks between games with injury/illness.

Lot of water to go under the bridge, but he looks a much more natural midfielder than Ginbey.

Outside of that four game stretch he has been straight up terrible. I wouldn’t base anything off four games lol.

Draper v

Lalor and Travagalia. Lalor starting to hit 30 possesion games.

Travgalia not far behind as a halfback mid.

That's the choice between splitting or not splitting.

Which is the better result for our list profile?

Then add Lindsay or Berry with the Hawks 1st. Travagalia likely gone by 14 /15.

Interesting re: Bolton/Baker. These guys have very good mail too, much better than any other club podcasts on this site.

Interesting on Baker staying if Bolton goes. Freo really need Bolton while for both WA clubs, I view Baker as a “nice to have”.

Let’s hope Freo go early in the trade period and Feathers makes it happen

I'm not an expert, but isn't Lalor like top 5, and Travgalia top 10? How can you split three into getting enough for both of them?

Here’s one for the ruck merry-go-round.

Which other clubs need a ruckman?
Melbourne maybe but Soldo would have to be a forward until Gawn is gone, and Soldo is not a young player
Geelong if they dont think Conway is ready and wont be ready for a couple more years

Every other club has a ruckman, its just us. If he wants to be the number 1 ruck then it is just us I mean

Not drilling into the specifics of the trade but Petracca to the Suns would be ideal for the AFL’s love child.

Lukosius along with 6 and the Doggies R1 and the AFL come in and classify $500k pa of the salary as ambassadorial. AFL might even grease the tracks for additional incentive

Dees have 3 x R1 (5, 6 and mid teens) picks along with a ready made key forward.

It allows Petracca to expand his Gold Coast foodie social media empire and provide the Suns with a genuine game winner.

Has Trac had enough of the Dees softclock culture? Him at the Suns and they are playing finals! Is Trac the missing 20%? Is he wanting the big club ego boost that only the big VIC teams can deliver?

Apparently he wants to play in front of big crowds in Melbourne. No chance he goes to GC.

3 plus 23 plus maybe something else?

For 6 and 7.

Lalor is floating out from the top 5. Cal has him live pick 9.

Travagalia between 9 and 13.

Either could end up the best player in this draft. That's how even it is.

Lalor and Reid rotating mid / forward is a "stimulating" prospect IMO. VERY stimulating. ;) :$

And both have shown they can accumulate and hit the score board.
