Done deals:

  • Zane Trew, Jamaine Jones and Jordyn Baker delisted

Ongoing discussions:

  • List Manager Matt Clarke appeared on Sept 11 Gettable - Click spoiler below for summary
On the draft: "We predicted that the draft was strong, but it's probably gotten stronger during the year."

On top end of draft: "You could probably make five or six different choices and get it right."

On Pick 3: "I reckon there's five (players) around that mark."

On splitting: "I think you want to hold an early selection if you can. The depth of this group allows you to maybe have some movement there, and see what you can do to bring in more talent in the first 20-25 picks. Easier said than done, and I think most clubs would be saying the same thing. We'll see what we can do."

On Liam Baker: "He's still yet to make a decision. They're still weighing up a few things. We'd love to get Liam on board from what he offers from a talent and leadership point of view. We understand where we're at as a group, we're rebuilding our group, we need to add some guys in the middle tier to support our young group."

On Jack Graham: "We've got a number of players that we're speaking to. A bit of a wait and see on that one as well. We'll talk to a number of guys."

On Shai Bolton: "I think it will be difficult for anybody, really. He's heavily contracted and a high quality player."

On James Peatling: "He's heavily involved in a finals series at the moment so I don't want to comment too much on it, but I think there's a number of guys that have been playing really good footy this year that could suit what we do and what other clubs do. He's taken his footy to another level this year."

On Tom Barrass: "We've had an early discussion with Hawthorn about it, they understand where we're at. He's nominated Hawthorn as his ideal destination. We want what we think he's worth, as a genuine key back in the competition that can do what he can do. We're obviously mindful of getting an appropriate deal for West Coast."

On Tom Clurey: "Maybe (note: sounded very non enthused). We'd probably need some key back depth, whether that's through the draft or trade and free agency."

On Jack Darling: "We've had initial discussions with his management group about (moving). We're open to talking, as we are with all of our players, but Jack's contracted with us."

On Liam Ryan: "I expect him to be at West Coast next year, yes." (The most definitive answer of the day by a mile, a non-starter of a talking point.)

On out of contact players e.g. Rotham, Witherden, Jones: "We're still working through what it looks like from a list point of view, and how many selections we'll want to have, and players that may come in and potentially may go out. You might want to give a coach an opportunity to look at these guys."

On Harley Reid: "We've had discussions most of the year with his management group. I think it sits in a really good place. We're open to doing really whatever they want to do to be honest. We're really confident in building the right system around Harley, on and off field, to make sure that he's really comfortable, that he's going to play his best footy, and his long term future."

On Jake Waterman's new deal: "Yep, really close. We're working really closely with his management on that. I expect that we'll have something done pretty soon."

On Oscar Allen: "We've been talking with Oscar and his manager most of the year on that one. We're going through some stuff at the moment. I think we'll be ok with that one."

Apologies if this has been mentioned but I was thinking through how things could play out. Carlton can now make a move for Houston with 12 + 14. Trading out their F1 + F2 means they would likely ask for Port's F2 in return.

With 12 + 14, Port likely trades one to Gold Coast for Lukosius, leaving them with a juicy hand of 6, 12, 13, 23, 29 + 41. They will likely want to move 6, 12 + 13 on for points and future picks.

Hawthorn won't be able to get 14 back so this relies on 12 getting to Gold Coast:

HAW
OUT: 33, F1 (HAW), F1 (CAR), F2 (HAW/CAR)
IN: 12, 13, 29, 41

The rejected Barrass deal appears to have been Barrass + F3 for 14 + F2. Hawthorn's F2 was reported to be the sticking point but the deal is valued around pick 10. I would say it is unlikely that Hawthorn would give us 12 AND 13 so we could possibly look at a deal like 13 + 29 for Barrass + F3. Not brilliant but better than 14 + F2 and closer to the original value before compensation picks kicked in.

Oh my, I kind of wish now I hadn’t opened this can of slugs
After a bit of afternoon excitement, good to see we are back to normal programming. Arguing over pointless crap. I feel you have got the rough end of the stick, now you have to lie in the raw prawn you have made. And you can eat the spinning man’s hat as well.

I doubt Baker is going to Dockers.

Imagine convincing your best mate to relocate clubs across the other side of the country so you can still play together to only change your mind after your mate has signed and play for the other team.

I’m sure Jack would understand. 😂

Too be fair tho going off his speech at the Richmond b&f he doesn’t sound like the sharpest tool in the shed😂

Someone mentioned earlier how farfetched it is that a club redraft a player after they walk to the PSD.

That flog Jack Martin walked his ass there when Carlton refused to pony up a good offer so Fold Coast got nothing.... And then Fold Coast passed on him in the PSD and let him go with Carlton still having a later selection

More recent was Hately waking to the PSD after Adelaide wouldn't come to the party with a suitable pick for GWS

So in the event the Baker thing doesn't happen, I'd say we should be more worried about North at pick 2 than Richmond selecting him again.

Im sure there's ways around it, with Baker nominating WA and setting his salary or whatever else.

Unlikely to happen IMO, you'd think at the very very worst case, if it looks like it won't happen we'd pony up pick 26 at the death and it gets done.
If all this crap about him needing Richmond to be well compensated is true, sounds to me like the PSD won't be an option.
Who's ever heard of a player trying to make it difficult for the team he's nominated to recruit him (if true)?
Don't remember TB ever saying that he wants us to get maximum return for him, he just wants to get to the club that is offering him the best contract (seemingly free agency style).

My view (fwiw) is that most the trades are already done somewhat…AFL releasing info strategically (conveniently on Friday) to get the fans talking and build the drama for an “epic next week”

Will hold till I see what transpires…
Bit of tin foil hat there

It would be impossible keeping it from the media

Gees I hate trading future 1st round picks. I hope it all works out for the Blues next year, but what if they have a year from hell and end up in the bottom rungs of the ladder😬

Also, Hawkers drinking a bit of their own bathwater, getting a little ahead of them selves, thinking the rebuild is done (current first pick at #33)? It's not like we have ever seen a young up and coming team over achieve in a season, and then the next the regress back to somewhere closer to where the fit in (Melb 18/19, Freo 22/23).

I really hope there's still a deal for barrass out of all of this! We need more than 1 pick in the top 23 to help our rebuild.
But did anyone else think that the hawks were maybe overcapitalising on KPDs with battle too?

The now defunct trade scenario that had been discussed was :

Barrass for 14,F2
14 for Baker,24
3 for 6,18

Leaving us with 6,18,24 and Hawthorn’s F2 for pick 3 with Baker coming in for Barrass

The question is, does replacing 14 with Carlton’s (or Hawthorn’s) F1 materially change that?

Probably depends on Richmond being happy with a F1 opposed to 14

Hawthorn, for their part, are happy because they pocket Carlton’s F2 as a bonus

What had been proposed potentially still holds

Carlton offered us 12 and their F1/F2 before the hawks deal according to Twomey (for 3)
“The Blues will stay open to shifting even higher up the draft board, having also thrown up a deal for West Coast's pick No.3, involving their pick 12, future first and future second-round picks before they sent those picks to Hawthorn.“

So essentially we turned down 12 and 14 for 3. Also indicates that Carlton aren’t set on a particular player at 12, which I thought they were.

I like it.

I was hoping for a deal but it's pointless because it's going straight swap for bake r

Poor poor Baker wanted to help tuggas one last time.

You will come to us for pick 23.

Listen here you either **** over tuggas or you can gtfo from wce

Sorry to show up uninvited, but this is a classic case of Jon Ralph being a useful idiot for Richmond at trade time. Ignore him.

Utter flog.

Might not have been the proposal in its entirety though.

Big watch on Hawks coming for pick 9 from Essendon with a view to on trade to us. If this occurs let’s hope we don’t do something stupid with Richmond and Baker.

People need to really stop tuning into the trade radio shit :radio::toilet:

Bunch of campaigners we don't like, in a circle jerk of Vic bias crap.

Don't give them the viewership, vote with your ears and hopefully trade radio dies and they shorten trade week to an actual 5 days instead of the total joke that it is now.

We say this shit every year yet you fools still tune in. Sack up. Find your testicles and remember you no longer live in grandma's basement, you're adults.
