Our pick swaps with Carlton and GWS the last two seasons
We're they both trading down?

I think trading down is alot easier as you can get lots of clubs interested in a higher pick in the current draft.

I haven't seen us successfully trade up before especially into the top 10.

Not many other clubs seems to do this pick swap to get into the top 10 ‘easily’. We ended up with pick 4 and pick 8 in successive drafts due to taking advantage of the desperation of Carlton to get Stocker and GWS to get Green. Trading up in the same draft is also a lot easier this year with the academy selections, Twomey said today we are already into the Bulldogs pick 14.

Yes I can see us getting the wb pick. And I can see clubs lining up to get our higher picks by trading their futures.

I cannot see us trading up into the top 5 without giving up a player though.

I've never seen us successfully do that before.

That’s a fair call on the top 5, that’s almost impossible to do in the same draft.

Giants did it last year with us

Giants did it last year with us

*Sydney.

They ended up paying a hefty price for a two pick upgrade as well, seeing it ended up being a top 10 pick to move from 6 to 4.

I get that other teams have done it, I'm just saying I've never seen us do it.

Whether we're talking trading up in the top 10 or top 20.

I therefore don't think we're capable of bundling picks to upgrade our position, because we've never been able to do it.

The only way I see this happening is with a player.

And I'm Cal Twomey.
Adelaide seems to have gone to sleep again on what should be an easy trade for Jackson Hately...

Only clubs that will want to trade their futures for our current picks are those that who are expecting to move up the ladder significantly next year. So we'll be essentially betting they don't manage to move up.

Otherwise they'll keep their picks for a draft next year that may be clearer.

I don't think we've gone to sleep on it, I just think GWS know that we couldn't negotiate our way out of a wet paper bag.

Unless people believe that our guys see the future, the pick swaps are valued at the time based on the expected finishing ranges. So we've got people implying Binuk is a guru for somehow correctly predicting GWS fall down the ladder, but failed to predict our own during Gibbs trade. Future picks aren't an exact science. No doubt every club has their version of next year's finishing positions. But that's it, that's all they've got and any major drop or rise is dumb luck either way. We hit Melbourne the one year they rose, but the deal was still strong at the time for an uncontracted player. Still pretty good compared to what we'd come to expect from Noble.

trying to trade down our pick 1 after GWS asked for our first rounder.

will be announced we've swapped out pick 1 to GWS for Geelongs pick 11 (from the Cameron Trade) and Hately

effectively two 1st rounders lads, beers all round!

Part the fact even if Binuk WAS attempting to predict finish positions, he likely wouldn't have seen the fall for GWS.

He worked at sportsbet and pointsbet and their odds for finish positions haven't really been any different from general public opinion, so I doubt he has some secret genius formula.
