AFL Toast RND 13: Win Against The Blues

How do you see this team improving in the next few months?

I'd like to see Reid come in and replace Heppell. That means that BZT and Laverde slide down the list to the size of the opponent. Ridley plays on whoever we want to ensure that Reid gets support.

Parish, Setterfield and Shiel come in and Menzie, Guelfi and Snelling go out. That means Caldwell, Perkins and Hobbs play forward and contribute to the midfield rotation. We also saw tonight that Merrett can play forward as well.

I'd play Heppell as the sub most weeks as he's capable of playing in any third of the ground. I'm not sure if we can keep Weiderman and Phillips both on the same side.

I'm not 100% confident in playing Reid, I'm happy for it to be Cox playing in the backline to work in tandem with Ridley as an interceptor.

Did anyone else notice how much they filmed Adam saad in the rooms after the game?

Carlton supporters on BigFooty want to bash Andrew McGrath for being a small defender. Has a clear cut #1 selection not progressed as little as Sam Walsh?
Seriously? The bloke had back surgery and misses a big chunk of pre season. He has been an A grade player. Talk about not looking outside the box and making predictions based on a few games .
Well done Korn

They're not a good team
Have called mckay overrated for a while and been panned for it. His height buys him frees. Outside that, he's a liability
Poor chemistry out of the back
Poor kicks everywhere.

Outside charlie, and he kicked them out of it early, they have no A grade players
Wow, I reckon that's a bit harsh. I reckon they've got some great players who are underperforming. Cripps, Walsh and Cerra were all average last night, but their ruckman really was a lone De Koning.

Do they have as many coaches as we do? It's made a huge difference to the confidence and abilitues of our boys.

to be fair, I wasn't aware he had a back injury. Would hamper his running ability to keep up aerobic capacity.

still, * Carlton

He is an absolute gun.

Surprised people have forgotten just how good he was last time we played Carlton.

I was benig a touch facetious with my initial post. Would I have Sam Walsh at Essendon? in a heartbeat. I didn't realise he'd had back surgery, so easy to see why he hadn't improved on his best year of 2021

On emotional level, just ****ing love beating the Scum so who cares?…..BUT

Objectively….we played a good first quarter and a slashing 3rd quarter. The rest of it was as much about Carlton incompetence as anything we did.

They won an awful lot of footy around the contest but that’s probably to be expected with 3 of your 4 first picked mids out. Never felt comfortable that Curnow and McKay were under control - the fact they didn’t each kick 4 or 5 was more good luck than good management.

I dunno…..happy to get the win but thought it was probably a 6.5/10 performance overall.

There's a certain MB thread about a list managers fraudulent credentials thats gone on ice for the first time in a loong time

Found this zinger in the Carlton match review thread
Sack them all and TANK for the remainder of the year. As much as we bag DODORO he finds some gems here and there. and they obviously Sh#t on us in regards to player development.

All hail Dodoro :oops::D:tearsofjoy:

I made mention of this in the game day thread, Hobbs and Caldwell showing fwd ability sure means we can play them fwd more when Shiel, Parish and Setterfield return. Moving Snelling, Menzies &/or Guelfi out of the side when needed.

If im to keep any of the latter three in, Guelfi, he can mark, he can pressure and he can link up.

Agree. I found it especially frustrating that the mentality in the first and second quarters seemed to be that because 2MP was back we don't have to lower our eyes going i50 to spot up a target. The high long bombs are incredibly frustrating.

How good does it feel waiting for Wright to kick a goal after a mark at the 50 metre arc? Because that’s what he’ll do.

Such an incredible set shot kick.

Pluggeresque. A bit like Lloyd too.

Even better when you look at the s**t show of goal kicking woe at the other end of the ground.
and this right now is the big reason why I gave him 2 votes.

Yeah.
Its nice though that we can turn in an overall B effort and get 4 points
Though it helps last 3 weeks we've played bottom 4 sides (lol carlton)

Missing parish, shiel and setterfield in the middle. Have to take that to the bank. Thats our first choice contested ball brigade

Massive ticks to perkins, hobbs, caldwell and martin. Covered the gap nicely.

Said pre-game clean quick ball movement and a solid 5 goal lead in the 3rd would break the blues
That 3rd qtr start was perfect

I don’t care.

Reminds me of Ottens.
Such a sweet strike of the ball.

No way I'd drop menzie.
His fwd craft is top shelf.

First choice small fwd for me
