Missed the Lynch pin today. Having no players capable of marking down the line or up forward will be our death this year.

Are ruckmen allowed to push the opposing ruckman square in the back at throw ins? Gawn was doing it all day, there were 2 against Balta in the last where if it was a forward they’d have paid it (unless it was Jack of course).

Lynch in the side we win, I truely believe that even with the issues of the backline yesterday. Plenty of upside from the game.

What amazes me is the focus of some posters on the forward line instead of the backline as if the forward line is in crisis,.

I thought the group went well considering and Gawn had to go in beast mode

I thought Mini went okay, he tried a few things, I think apart from Gawn Melbourne beat us on demographics

I am at 17.04 mark to go third qtr. Chandler kicked a goal and Dusty just kicked a goal in response. It is 79 to 59. We are in front. Apparently Gawn had a rev up by Goodwin at half time, not blaming Soldo either

Yeah he kicked 1 and the dees kicked 6 while our backline got opened up.

Which is why I said he should have been moved straight back after kicking that goal. I thought that at the time, but unfortunately they tried to stick with it.
Reality probably is we aren’t at that level ATM, but a few momentum changing goals and maybe the wrong coaching moves didn’t help either.

We should not have taken Miller off. Sure he didn't get much of the ball, but was it all co-incidence that when we went shorter all of a sudden their key backs came into the game. May and Lever were average in the first half, Miller contesting from the CHF position was one of the reasons. He also helped when Gawn dropped back in the hole, Gawn vs Pickett made it impossible for us to thrown in the high ball. Balta eventually went forward, but too late.

We were well set early with both Pickett and Mansell playing much further up the ground, Pickett even rucked because Mini worked out how important having someone tall at CHF against Melbourne. Threw that balance out when Coulthard came on. Why wasn't a small taken off. Graham was the obvious one as Mansell is quick and we needed pace, and he was playing pretty well. Could have been Cotchin who did not much. But as usual, we take the younger players off and leave the established players on. Maybe Young could have gone to CHF. He is competitive, big and mobile. Better option than moving Balta who is so important behind the ball.

Regarding the forward set up next year a combination of, Young or Gibcus plays forward, Cumberland, Bauer, Lynch would be interesting. I did not like Jack's comment about playing on next year, 'you have to take a variety of things into account, like am I taking somebody else's spot', which seems to indicate that he didn't think he was.

This was actually the match to rest both of them.
Despite what I’ve read on the first page of this thread, this was not the match that puts us out of finals, any one of the next three are.
We win all three of these I pretty much think we can’t miss, so season ain’t over yet (but could be next week).
Nank comes back and so does Short. 2 big ins for us.
Soldo probably goes out and so will banks.
Not sure what happened with the 2’s.
If Cumberland backed up last week with another good performance he should probably come in. Not sure for whom though. Maybe Mansel as sub and drop Coulthard back for a full game in the VFL?

First half we lowered our eyes going forward and moved the ball slower with more confidence and control. Second half when umps took over we were panicked and bombed it in. Sure Miller could have helped but it was more our lack of composure (and the umpires match fixing) that saw Lever and May get on top.

Melbourne are a bloody good team. One of the flag favourites at the start of the season. We took them deep. No shame in that loss.
Wouldn't have been a problem if our discipline and skills were better in the first half of the season.
Play the kids now and look towards next season.
