Pickett came out to play early and looked hungry, but I'm sorry to say he wont work up forward, we've seen enough now. I dont know where he plays to be fair. His form this year has been abysmal to say the least. I noticed he was named on the Wing, but I didn't see him line up there once.
Agree with a lot of your post banana, but just on this point. Pickett lined up on the wing initially and he did start well for sure. The Bauer injury 2 mins in forced him forward as Ross was subbed on and as you mentioned played a great game on the wing. So Pickett was the one who was pushed forward to play as a pseudo-key forward as he has previously done.

While the stats don't necessarily reflect it, I thought he was okay and certainly brought the ball to ground multiple times as well as locking the ball in with tackles and his general pressure.

I do disagree with his form being 'abysmal' this year, I think his form early in the year was very solid, he was having a consistent year as a wingman up until that Geelong game where he was thrown forward for his pressure. Since then he had one game in the middle v Port and otherwise has played as a key forward. Not the easiest position to play especially when you've spent most of your footy career as a midfielder. And he has been serviceable at various times by doing the basics (bringing the ball to ground, pressure around the ball) but he has struggled to hit the scoreboard as forward.

Whether he holds his place or not, I don't know. The wing is clearly his best position for us, Ross rightfully will hold his spot. Kmac won't be dropped either so it seems it's forward or VFL at this stage for Marlion. Interested to see which way the MC goes with his selection for next week.

Iā€™m sold on Young. After that performance, feels like he has the tools to make it and will only get better with his apprenticeship and experience. He is surrounded by 3x premiership defenders to coach him and Truck as his teacher will develop him.

There is a well researched book called Range that argues that many of the most talented sportsmen were those who dabbled across sports early in their lives / career. Doing so brings versatility and unique competencies to how you play the chosen sport. Roger Federer being the key example cited. In other words Being born with a football in hand isnā€™t the guarantee to being a good player that many might think (Tiger woods being the most cited case to defend this view)

Hence hoping this will be the case for Young

Young is an Astbury. Defensively solid, dour, not flashy, but reliable to play a negating role.

If he can play within his limits and turn a few spoils into intercept marks, he's an easy guy to pencil in. Can't have too many of that type in the modern game though, which is why you still need the intercepting and attacking talls like Balta.

Don Bradnan was pretty handy and theres some really interesting ideas about his technique and tactics to always hit it along the ground so you cant get caughr.

Its weird how some campaigners are good at everything and some are experts at one thing and shit at all else!

Another option would be to play Ross across half back, but this would mean dropping Banks. However, with two bottom four teams to come, I think its probably a good opportunity to give Banks a couple of games to find his feet.
